It´s also a very famous neighbourhood concerning FADO houses, restaurants and bars.
Located near one of the trendiest Alfama streets, Rua dos Remédios, it is also a walking distance to monuments such as National Pantheon, Fado Museum, São Jorge Castle, Portas do Sol belvedere and Feira da Ladra flea market. The historical and commercial center of Lisbon (Baixa, Chiado and Bairro Alto) stay at a 10 minutes walking distance.
In the neighbourhood you can find traditional shops, small cafes and restaurantes, fado houses, art galleries and craft shops.

Hemos estado mis tres hijas y yo en este pequeño pero luminoso y acogedor piso en la alfama y sólo puedo decir que ha sido una preciosa experiencia, tanto por el barrio, como por el piso en el que nos alojábamos, como el trato de su propietaria, Patricia. El piso está perfectamente ubicado desde todos los puntos de vista, ya que está a sólo 5 mns de la estación de Santa apolonia, pero sobretodo, en medio de un barrio tan castizo como alfama, donde te encuentras como en casa. Hay tienditas, restaurantes, niños, enfÃn, ..vida! En el piso no falta de nada, está totalmente renovado, y por las mañanas no hay un sólo ruido, cosa que se agradece. Está también muy cerca del famoso Castillo, a donde se llega después de un paseo de unos 15mns perdiéndose por unas callejuelas retorcidas y llenas de vida. EnfÃn, que es un piso totalmente recomendable a todos los niveles!

The apartment is as spick-and-span as the photos suggest.
It's just off the heart of the old town but it's location - several floors up and at the end the street meant that it was quiet , -

We found Patricia's apartment on tripadvisor and could not have been more overjoyed with the location and quality of this lovely, brand newly converted loft apartment. Much better than a stuffy hotel room, lovely bathroom, great facilities all round!! Loads of local bars and places to eat on the road just down from the apartment - Rua dos Remedios, make sure you have the Piri Piri chicken and home made chips from the small bar / restaurant at the end of the road right on the square opposite the Fado Museum, think it was called Cane Verde. You cant miss it, the owner is always cooking his chickens behind the main window over charcoal!! Euro 11 for whole chicken and fresh chips and 3 beers!!!
Oh yes and fabulous views from the windows over the river!

..that was our first travel to Lisbon and the choice of the apartment instead of the hotel was a brilliant idea...I discovered Patricia's loft in alfama on the Trip advisor and at the same time I discovered Lisbon! Great, sunny, new and functional apartment was our base and the astonishing old alfama neighborhood a perfect start ( with it's cafes ) in the Lisbon sunny mornings but also an exciting late night fado end of the day...I would recommend with joy this loft, his owner and alfama quarter…we had an unforgettable week in Lisboa!!!
