Chiado has re-emerged from the ashes of the big fire in 1988 after about 10 years. All the investment made in the renewing of this area, conciliating elegance of the past with the modern needs of comfort and design made this the most appreciated and expensive neighborhood of central Lisbon.
Chiado is considered the most beautiful area of historic Lisbon. It was a place of residence of the Portuguese royalty and of the political and cultural elites. Nearby are located the theatre S. Luis and the opera S. Carlos. A little further is Camões square (Praça de Camões), next to Bairro Alto, picturesque but raffish. Part of Lisbon's nightlife is concentrated in this quarter, where you can hear 'fados' being sung in some restaurants and cafés. Chiado and Bairro Alto are where locals and tourists meet, with elegant hotels, old cafés and the best international fashion shops. The flats are also a few minutes walking to a lot of trendy shops, and to the famous café Brasileira.
A 5 minutes walk takes you to the funicular Bica and also toRossio, in Baixa, the neighbourhood rebuilt after the earthquake of 1755. In the direction of the river, you can find Praça do Comércio, centre of the old Portuguese empire near the river Tejo (Tagus river).
It is close to shops, restaurants, cafes, banks, cash machines, public transports (inc subway station Baixa/Chiado station 50 meters away and electric trams) 24 hour taxi stands, etc. Also in the same square there are a pharmacy and a post office, as well as grocery shops within 5 minutes walking.
To go to Sintra or to Óbidos you must catch the train at Entre-Campos train station, which is just a short subway trip from Chiado.
The nearest airport is Lisbon International Airport at 12 kilometres; the nearest railway station is International Station of Santa Apolónia at 1 kilometre.
We are very sorry that you feel like that. Gladly it is not what more then most of our guests feel about this great apartment in Chiado. But we thank you for your feedback. TravelingtoLisbon team

What a pity that an apartment in the heart of the best section of Lisbon, with great light, modern baths, some lovely turn-of-century plaster molding detail, and lots of space is treated so shabbily by its landlord. A landlord myself in the states, I can't imagine turning over an apartment of this quality to any guest and feeling good doing so. The towels felt like sandpaper, there was no heat for nights in the 50s (my husband had to fix the heat himself), and we had to beg for the most basic necessities, like a coffeepot. The couch was ripped, there are no carpets, the wood floors are scuffed to kingdom come (and several nails were literally sticking out of the floor), the apartment looks like it hasn't been painted in 10 years, and the decor is virtually non-existent. The TV didn't work -- i.e., it came with no directions and our calls for instructions were not met with a helpful response. I did find the people who work at the main office to be lovely, and when I accidentally left my bag behind at a tourist stop, the security guard got in touch with TTL, which offered to go pick it up for me. Very very nice. But if you're after a really nice apartment, for the price we paid, you can do much better than this. Alternatively, TTL should go down to the towel store right under the apartment and buy new towels and go to Zara for Home 1/2 a block away and buy a coffee pot. A paint job and new furniture also would do wonders. Lisbon is a very gritty city -- grafitti everywhere, street urchins begging for food on every corner. So having a "home" at day's end would have been nice and what we hoped for during our 9 days in Lisbon. Too bad.
Excellent location and very spacious - ideal for groups

The apartment couldn't be better placed for the shops in Chiado, and the bars of Bairro alto and Cais do Sodre. Apartment is huge and spacious with all the amenities you would need for your stay.
Ttl looked after us well and gave us lots of information about Lisbon and were flexible about check-in times.
The only negative is that there weren't very many clothes hangers in the wardrobes and in one room the wardrobe was almost completely inaccessible as the bed was too near the doors. The pillows could be more plentiful / thicker as well.
All in all however, a great experience for a very reasonable price. Great value.
Thanks for your considered review. We believe the apartments provide great accommodation at excellent prices, and we are thrilled that you agree.
We agree, the apartment is fabulously located, and perfect for families or groups alike.
Regarding the clothes hangers, we will leave more in the apartment for future guests. Concerning the pillows, as you understand, is difficult to find a common ground in this matter as each guest as different preferences, nevertheless we will certainly take into account your request. We're always very receptive to feedback that will allow for better stays.
Looking forward to see you again in Lisbon.

I was very happy with the apartment in terms of location and appearance etc.
However, i was concerned that over the course of the 4 nights we were there, the guests staying in the master bedroom received what appeared to be bed bug bites. One party was particuarly affected by these bites (with more than 20!) and it has been diagnosed as mites/bed bugs but not a mosquito.
I am concenrned that there may be an issue with these bugs in your master bedroom and would like to (a) lodge a complaint and (b) urge you to look into this matter of health.
Great location, problem with bugs...

We liked the apt and it's location. However, while we were there, one of the bedrooms became infested with mosquitoes and when we called the management, they had us take care of the problem. They thought we should go buy bug repellent, bug spray and ointment to relieve the itching from the hundreds (not exaggerating) bites our oldest son received. We have photos of his arms and legs, chest and back covered in bites. we closed off one of the bedrooms and never used it again after the 2nd day we were there. of course we took care of him, but even after spraying the room and buying plug in bug repellent, the problem did not go away. Also, the pillows were like sleeping on a stack of books. we purchased our own and took them with us to Porto and the algarve. Since our goal was to see as much of Lisbon as possible, we weren't in the apt that much. one other issue was because of the mosquitoes, we couldn't open our windows and the temperature was in the 90's every day. it was a bit uncomfortable and stuffy. Again, location great. Read more
Thank you for taking the time to write concerning your experience in Lisbon and hope you enjoyed Porto and the Algarve.
On behalf of Traveling I must apologise for the mosquito saga you suffered whilst in our apartment in Lisbon and that your children were covered in bites, (I personally am a target and know how terrible it is!!). However I must admit we were very surprised to read your comments as there may have been a misunderstanding with regards to our actions. As you may recall, after you called we went straight to the apartment as you did not seem to know what the bites were and we were quite concerned. We waited for a long time to be able to get into the apartment and we were not dismissive of the issue at all. When finally in the apartment we realised the problem were mosquitoes, my colleague Daniel offered to buy bug spray which you declined due to its chemicals. Or so he seemed to understand. Daniel was taken by how many there were, they must have been brought by the heat “wave” felt that week. Mosquitoes are indeed a problem in warmer temperatures. Unfortunately aside from bug spray and repellents, the only other solutions known to us are lights off in the evening and windows shut. We are glad that you found successfully that keeping that specific bedroom shut would contain them; obviously we failed to think further ahead that with the windows shut you could be hot in the apartment. Fortunately, as if that could be of any consolation, since you´ve left other people have stayed in the apartment and the situation has not occurred again.
Regarding the pillows, as you might imagine, is a personal taste therefore is quite complicated for us to find a common ground.
Hope that your son in now fully recovered, and will hope to serve you again in the future.
Wish the best for you and your family.

Wonderfull appartment in the 2nd level of turn of the century house. Old tiny elevator. Big living room, CD player, Sat TV set, wireless LaN. 4 Sleeping rooms. 2 restrooms. 2 Bathing rooms, one bath, 2 showers. Tiny Kitchen - espresso machine missing. Not enough glasses, esp. for wine - but overall ideal place to discover Lisbon.

Total Lisbon experience - excellently located.

The apartment was excellent for our needs, which included a person in a motorized scooter. The renovated bathrooms and kitchen were perfect, the beds comfortable. The space was excellent for 4 couples, and afforded some each the right level of privacy.
The only slight incoveniences were
- the very high bathtub - which made it very difficult for our friend who has very little mobility in his legs;
- and the very noisy front room on Friday evening.
We very much enjoyed the central locality of the apartment and the historical/heritage feel of it.
Excellent location, but some noise

The location was excellent, and the apartment nice and clean. There was however some noise from the streets during the night. As we were travelling with a child we stayed in the apartement some nights. It would have been nice with a table in the living area. Overall we had a great stay in Lisbon.

The location was great. The only drawback was the constant noise from the street but that's to be expected when you live downtown. The lack of air conditioning was also a deterrent but not entirely essential. We enjoyed being close to all the services and tourist attractions. We would definitely recommend this location. Instructions for use of the washer and dryer should be available for convenience, as well as instructions on how to use the dishwasher.

The location is perfect with lots of shopping and restaurants close by, and only a short walk to barrio alto, where we chose to spend most of our time. Could use a bit more equipment in the kitchen, like wine glasses :)
Good location. But no air conditioners

The only downside to the apartment was the entrance hall and stairways. The whole area could do with a coat of paint, as it gives a very bad first impression. However, the apartment itself was wonderful! Spacious, spotless and everything one would need for an enjoyable stay. Your representative was first class, very informative and charming. I think his name was Mario???
We will be back!

I spent 3 days in this apartment with 6 friends for a bachelor party. It has been great, truly in the center of Lisbon, closed to Bairro alto, Baixa. This apartment has everything you can expect, even a dvd if you get bored in Lisbon, very unlikely.
Expectations were met

This is a perfect location in terms of being close, or with easy access via metro, tram or bus, to the major atractions of Lisbon. The apartment is sunny and well appointed, specially in the kitchen area. The building has no reception area (you walk directly into the elevator through the unmanned entrance hall) but this has never been source of any problems for us (the main door is kept closed overnight, after 7 pm). There is no telephone land line but it is easy to buy a sim card (if you have an unlocked cell phone). Tv and internet work fine. The underground metro is literally around the corner and there is a medium size grocery store 4 blocks away, a ten minutes walk.

The service provided by TTL is 10 out of 10, from the initial booking right the way through to our reception at the apartment on our arrival.
The apartment is superb - comfortably accommodating four grown men, in four separate bedrooms, with space to spare.
We were very pleased with the excellent location - close to shops, restaurants and bars.
All of us being frequent travellers - business and personal, we are not easily impressed but this apartment is fabulous.
We would gladly recommend this apartment to anybody and my friends and I are thinking about making this an annual trip to Lisbon.

A luxurious flat in the very heart of Lisbon. The flat is very comfortable and tastefully furnished. The heating works like a dream and the amount of space in the flat is amazing. If you are going to Lisbon, the flat will surely add to your experience. Additionally, travelling to Lisbon have provided excellent customer service.
I fully recommend the flat and Travelling to Lisbon.
Truly 5 star in Lisbon
Gorgeous property right in the heart of Lisbon
Left on 12/17/2010 for a stay in November 2010 | Truly 5 star in Lisbon
This felt like 5 star in every way. The check in was great, the apartment is bigger than my house and has been renovated in a subdued tasteful way. Everything worked. It would be a little difficult to have too many people as the lounge room really only caters for 3 or 4 .. but there enough beds for 9 .. so just make sure they are all good at sitting on the floor.
Great place for a weekend with friends

This was a fantastic place to stay whilst we were in Lisbon. It is located in the trendy Chiado area which is very central to get around and within a few minutes walk of the Bairro alto and Restaurants. Lots of shopping about too! The apartment was immaculate and was perfect for us 8 females who were there for a hen weekend. It was very spacious, well decorated and had all the amenities required for our stay. We were blown away by how luxurious the apartment was when we arrived! Would definitely go and stay there again next time I'm in Lisbon.

The service was excellent. TravellingtoLisbon staff were efficient, helpful and very friendly. The apartment was lovely and had everything one could need. The decor and all the fixtures and fittings were really high standard. It is in a very good central location, within walking distance to shops, restaurants, bars, nightlife and the main sight seeing areas. The only minor drawback was that it could be a bit noisy but earplugs sorted that out. Other than that we totally loved it and would definitely stay here again.
