This apartment is set in the city centre, next door to Rossio and Praça da Figueira.
After the great earthquake of 1755, when the centre of Lisbon was destroyed, a new one was constructed, made of grid pattern “geometrical” streets. This area, situated between Praça do Comércio, Rossio and Praça da Figueira is called Baixa.
It is next door to Baixa, now the heart of Lisbon’s historical centre, where apartment number 9 is located, at Largo de S. Domingos. There are several other apartments at Baixa.
Largo de S Domingos communicates also with Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, the location of many excellent fish restaurants as recommended by many city guides (see VisitLisboa). From this street leaves, every 15 minutes, the Elevador do Lavra, the oldest funicular in Lisbon (120 year old). It will bring you to the neighborhood of Pena, and to the green spots of Jardim do Torel and Park of Campo de Santana. It is also close to Avenida da Liberdade, place of elegant fashion shops, hairdressers and also to a big health club.
You are within a few minutes walk to the castle (S. Jorge), Bairro Alto (by foot or taking the funicular Elevador da Glória) and Alfama with all their historical sights, museums, monuments, bars and restaurants.
The area is served by 2 subway lines , numerous bus lines and tram lines that will help you explore the city and nearby tourist sights such as Sintra and Cascais or the beaches around Caparica and the Estoril coast
