The apartment was exactly as described. It has tons of charm an amazing view and is in the heart of Lisbon. Even though it is one of the busiest districts we had no trouble with noise. it was an oasis after long days of tramping around. My only hesition in a flat recommendation is that there are tons of stairs (to be expected) and the bathroom is only accessed through the main bedroom. I was staying in the loft and had to go throught the room my friend was staying in order to use the shower etc.

amazingly good value given the location and the view. Filipe made check in process very simple. Be warned there is no lift so be prepared to get some exercise. The loft is great but definitely for non tall athletic types.

ParisGreat place, good service, great city
Left on 12/13/2012 for a stay in October 2012
The place was a bit hard to access by cab as it is located in a narrow street, but once there and the 4 flight of stairs climbed (no elevator, be careful with your luggage!), the apartment was great. The dressing room was a great addition to feel at home and make our suitcases disappear during our stay and the fully equipped kitchen was useful to cook at home when we wanted a quiet evening.
On the down side, we were late in the season and the apartment was really cold and the power went off several time when the heaters were maxed.
The view from the windows/tiny (and not safe looking balcony) was amazing and the location ideal and quiet.Response from Traveling to Lisbon - 01/17/2013

Thank you very much for your review.
Indeed, the building has no elevator, as stated in our apartment description - that is why we don´t advise this apartment to everyone, hopefully this did not damage your opinion about the apartment.
We do hope you come back to Lisbon and would like to invite you back to this apartment or another one.
Please note that now we have more apartments in major European cities, such as Barcelona, London and Paris.

We stayed for 4 days in this apartment, in an excellent location right between Chiado and Bairro alto. It's a 5-7 min walk from the Baixa-Chiado metro station. The pictures you see are a perfect representation of the aprtment, which as a 180 degrees view of Libon roofs and nice views of the Castelo on the hill right in front. The apartment was clean, well equiped and relatively large. It's on the 4th floor iwthout elevator, but well worth it for the view. These are only a few additional steps to the climbing you have to do in Lisbon anyways! :)

We arrived in Lisbon for the first time and were given clear instructions on how to get to the apartment.
André met there, showed us through the place and it felt like home. Handy to everything, sights, restaurants etc.
Steep staircase but I looked on it as a bit of extra exercise.Response from Traveling to Lisbon - 12/12/2012

Loved this apartment. More towels would be helpful especially a couple of beach towels. Very hot when we were there so air conditioning would have been made the apartment more comfortable. The apartment had everything else we needed. Thanks

Thank you for your review.
We're very pleased to hear that you loved the apartment even with the lack of air conditioning. Despite the lack of it we always try to provide our guests fans to the hot summer days in Lisbon.
Regarding the towels will have that in mind in order to become better in what we do. Our customers suggestions are always welcome.
Hope to see you again in the near future.

MontrealGreat location
Left on 07/27/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We had a great time in Lisbon and this apartment was really well located. Lots of stairs up to the top floor gets you in good condition for walking anywhere in Lisbon. The reward at the end of the long climb up is a great view of Lisbon old city, breezy (especially appreciated in the very hot week we were there). Apartment was comfortable, clean & room enough for 3 adults. The attic bedroom was a little warmer but views were great!
Located close to many wonderful squares, museums and cafes, funiculars.
Needed more sets of keys though. Check in didn't ask us how many sets we needed so this limited us a bit.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks so much for your comments.
The apartment is in a brilliant location and you are completely right that the stairs to the top floor gets you in good condition to walk the hills of Lisbon.
We always provide, as a standard procedure , two sets of keys therefore our host didn´t ask you how many you needed. Hopefully this was a "minor " issue in your stay.
We'd love to be your host on your next trip to Lisbon. And please check our newest destinations in Europe ( Barcelona, London and Paris).

Good comfortable apartment. Great friendly service from check-in people. Great views over Lisbon central city. Fascinating neighbourhood! Shame we didn't know it was up 4 floors of very steep stairs with no lift, (and that's before the extra flight up to the loft view!) Okay for the young, but, in our 60s we're not quite as young as we used to be!

Left on 07/16/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We (2 female friends) stayed 3 nights at apt.140 in June 2010. Smart but simply furnished modern apartment, on the 4th floor of an old building in the middle of the Chiado/Bairro alto area of Lisbon (ie central for everywhere!), with lots of windows creating a light airy feel, and fantastic views! We spent most evenings drinking supermarket vinho watching the sun go down from the sofa! Only drawbacks are (a) the bathroom is accessed through one of the bedrooms, and (b) the other bedroom is accessed via a steep, pull-down ladder! But so much more space and freedom than a hotel room - would definitely recommend!

Hello K****,
Thank you for the review!
It worth’s to climb 4 floors to stay in Apartment 140. The view is amazing.
The bathroom is located inside the bedroom because when the apartment was build it was supposed to be a one bedroom apartment. The idea to use the above space arrived later and that is the reason to have the bathroom inside the bedroom. We are happy you did enjoy your stay!
We hope to see you again soon!

Left on 01/22/2010 for a stay in January 2010
We've had a very pleasant stay at the Apartment in Chiado. It it close to a lot of bars and restaurants, which was great. There's a little shop just across the road where you can get most things. The owners are friendly.
The stair to the upper room was a bit scary.
The apartment was very cold when we arrived and it took two or three days until the rooms were a bit warmer. Thank god there were some electric heaters. The apartment itself was cute and we felt very much at home. You have a great view from there.
What we missed: a small map of the area: Where's the next supermarket, internet-shop etc.Response from Traveling to Lisbon - 01/25/2010
Manager
Dear Nicole,
Thank you for your review!
The apartment is in a nice and central area. Like you say, the view is superb.
About the stairs, we have considered different options, but it was not possible to find a better solution than the one we have now. All our apartments are equipped with central heating or electric heaters.
When we receive a guest, we try to give a lot of information (we mention the supermarket, internet shop, bakery, etc.) and we also give a Lisbon map. You have arrived on the 31st December and it was a really crazy day for us, with a lot of people arriving at the same time. We apologize for didn't give all the information, but we hope you understand.
Hope to see you again soon!

I travelled the world with friends and we all agreed that this apartment was by far our favourite stay. We were warmly welcomed and pleasantly surprised. Beautiful views right in the heart of lisbon. Restaurants line cobble street terraces nearby.
Modern bathroom, appliances and beds
One catch, steep stairs to the 4th floor apartment.
But we had no problems... part of the great experience and beautiful high views.

First of all the Apartment #140 was great(3 story walkup). The apartment is considered a 2 bdrm yet, keep this in mind. The upstairs bedroom can sleep 2 but it is a pain to climb the ladder and stand. The views from apt. are outstanding. Apt #140 can accomodate a couple & 3rd person or 2 couples. I felt very confortable and safe at all times in the apt and the area. Area restaurants, Clubs/bars are less than 3 blocks away & on two strips. They accomodate gay, straight and bi orientations. They were all small & crowded, yet nice. Lisbon on the whole was very enjoyable socially and culturally. Make sure u see all, its worth it
The service given by Traveling To Lisbon was excellent. The gentlemen that pick us up was very helpfull with tips, places to and not to go.
Overall, if you are use to vacationing in a 5 star hotel environment this is not the place 4 you. If your a 4 star person (yet down to earth) u will enjoy and appreciate the convenience of this Apt 140.
Oh, public transportation is very close.Response from Traveling to Lisbon - 09/11/2009

Hello R***,
Thank you for review!
Apartment 140 has an awesome view. It worth the stairs that is necessary to climb. :)
The second bedroom is in a mezzanine and, as like you say, the access might not be easy for some people. The picture number 2 in our website shows the stairs.
We provide a personalized welcome, so we can give the most important information.
Thank you and we hope to see you again soon!

Houston, Texas, USASuperb location, amazing views, nicely appointed.
Left on 08/15/2009 for a stay in May 2009
We rented apt 140 in late May 2009. We decided to go with an apartment
vs. a hotel because we wanted a more "local" feel for our first time in
Lisbon, plus we could not find a hotel in the Chiado/Bairro Alto that fit our
budget. We were directed to Traveling to Lisbon by reviews on TripAdvisor
and when we saw pictures of apt 140 we knew that's where we wanted to
stay, the views were absolutely amazing! When we arrived in the apt we
confirmed that the pictures were true, the view was amazing indeed. The apartment looked to be newly renovated and had a very open, airy feel, and
it had all the amenities that we would expect to have in our own home. Perhaps the only room for improvement would be to add a microwave oven.
What we liked the best by far was the location. We were just a few meters
away from Largo do Carmo and within blocks from the premier
entertainment district in Lisbon, the Bairro Alto, but our street was quiet
and peaceful as night, which is just what we wanted. A word of caution to
future renters though (which DID NOT bother us at all but may be an issue
for others): the apt is located on a 4th floor with no elevator, and the
staircase is pretty narrow, so getting to/from the apt on a daily basis may
be challenging for anyone with a disability, kids and/or lots of luggage.
Also, as it is pretty common in Portugal and most of Europe, the apartment
did not have air conditioning, but the weather is nice enough and there are
many windows that can be opened to help circulate air. We absolutely loved
our stay and if we are lucky enough to be able to go back to Lisbon, will definitely rent from Traveling to Lisbon again.Response from Traveling to Lisbon - 09/03/2009
Manager
Hello M*******,
Thank you for your review!
Apartment 140 has an excellent location. You are really between Chiado and Bairro Alto. It is a very central place. The views are, as you have said 'absolutely amazing'.
Nowadays the microwave oven is a must, so we have installed one already.
Regarding the floors, like you say, this is not the best option for people with a disability or lots of luggage, but for those guests we have an apartment on the ground floor of this same building (apartment 142)!
At the moment there is no air conditioning (we do not have in most of our places), but we always provide fans or electric heaters for our guests.
Thank you and hope you come back! :)
