Berkeley, CaliforniaA lovely place to stay in Lisbon
Left on 05/17/2013 for a stay in May 2013
We loved our time at this apartment! It's airy and spacious, and a refreshing change from the cramped hotel rooms you can often encounter at B&Bs; and hotels when traveling in old cities. The location in the alfama district is perfect for roaming around the city, and the view is unparalleled--you have a view of the river and all of Lisbon, are directly next to the cathedral, and can see the gorgeous rose window from the bedroom.
Fatima, Sandra, and the Heart & Soul crew were all wonderfully hospitable and accommodating--and very responsive every time we contacted them. They run a very professional operation, and I imagine all their properties are worth checking out.
The only thing to note is that this is, in essence, a 5th floor walk-up--but we liked the exercise, and found it well worth the climb! -

Left on 04/10/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Fabulous. We booked this online and had excellent communication with the Heart & Soul team before arriving. When we got to the airport we rang them to tell them we were on our way. We got a taxi to the apartment which cost 14 Euros, however it is very easy to also get the subway, which takes about 20 minutes or so. Eduardo met us at the apartment and gave us a lot of information about the apartment, the area, restaurants, etc, he wss very friendly and helpful. The apartment is fantastic, right next to the cathedral and close to the castle, with a café downstairs which is very handy. The apartment has fantastic views of the river and the town, being on the fourth floor. It had everything we could possibly need and more, and was very spacious and bright. There were 3 of us (adults) and we had plenty of room. We would not hesitate in booking this apartment again or another Heart & Soul property, I believe they have about 22 others. Lisbon is a great city, with plenty to see and do. Transport is very cheap and its easy to get about using the trams, the trains or buses. We went to the coast for a day to Estoril and Cascais which are both fabulkous and takes about half an hour on the train. So I would thoroughly recommend this property, don't hesitate to book it.

London, United KingdomFantastic apartment and location - book it
Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Have just come back from 4 nights over the Easter weekend. Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a fantastic apartment right in the centre of Lisbon. The whole booking process was extremely easy and efficient, we paid a deposit through paypal and had plenty of communication from the Heart & Soul team before our arrival. When we got to the airport we rang to let them know that we were on our way, we got a taxi which only took about 20 mins and cost £14 euros - very reasonable. However it is very easy to get the Metro from the airport, takes about 25 minutes and is a five minute walk to the apartment once you get to Lisbon. Eduardo met us outside the apartment and was extremely helpful and friendly, giving us lots of information about the apartment and the city and helpful hints about transport and restaurants.
The apartment is on the fourth floor but well worth climbing the stairs, fantastic apartment with great views over the river and right next door to the cathedral - it is the perfect location to get around the city. The apartment has everything you could think of, including washing machine, iron and ironing board, satellite tv, microwave, toaster, and there was plenty of space for 3 of us - we really could not fault anything at all. There is an information pack too which explains about transport, restaurants, the sights etc.
Lisbon is a great city and really 4 days wasnt really enough time to fully explore. It is very easy to get about on the trams, metro and buses and very cheap compared to London. We bought a zapper card which is a pay as you go card, we put 10 euros on each card which lasted us the four days and then you can use this on the trams, buses, metro and the funicular railway. Definitely do a tram ride, they are great fun although can get very crowded. There are several different routes but very frequent.
We went to the coast for the day which took about 40 minutes on the train, we went to Estoril and then walked along the front to the next resort called Cascais. Very pretty seaside resorts with lots of cafes and restaurants along the promenade.
The area around the castle is very quaint with lots of nice cafes and gift shops and tiny cobbled streets. We didnt actually go in the castle as unfortunatley it was pouring with rain on our last day but Im sure the views would have been spectacular.
There are plenty of restaurants although quite a lot of them seem to be very dated and dont have any vegetarian options apart from omelettes - its either fish or meat!!! But in the main square there is a nice italian restaurant which had a good choice of food and the biggest ice cream sundaes you have ever seen. Downstairs from the apartment there is a lovely cafe that is open until 1.00 in the morning and served great food - very handy if you dont want to cook.
Overall I would thoroughly recommend this apartment and Lisbon as a city break. Unfortunately the weather wasnt very good when we were there, apparently they too have had a bad winter so we didnt get around and see as much as we would have liked.
Dont hesitate to book this apartment - they also have various other apartments which I am sure will be up the same excellent standard.

Our stay at Se Cathedral 1 was superb in all aspects. Our host was waiting to greet us at the apartment when we arrived and helped carry our bags up the 4 floors to the top-floor, corner suite of the building. He provided us with directions on how to use the appliances in the suite, and gave us a very helpful assortment of information about Lisbon, including maps, recommended sites, walking tours, restaurants, shopping, etc. He ensured that the apartment was well stocked with everything we might need, and arrived promptly at check-out time.
The apartment itself was very bright with several large windows, which provided excellent views of the cathedral from the large bedroom, and stunning views of the city and Tagus River from the bathroom, living room and kitchen. The bedroom and living room were very spacious with lots of storage, and the kitchen was fully equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, stove, coffee maker, etc. An added bonus is that there were two powerful portable electric heaters which quickly and thoroughly heated up the living area and bedroom during the chilly winter nights. The decor is comfortable and romantic, with wooden floors and a high wooden-beamed ceiling.
Best of all, perhaps, is the location, right in the heart of the historical alfama district, with its wonderful restaurants, fado bars and coffee shops. We were within reasonable walking distance of the other main districts for sightseeing--Baixa, Rossio, Chiado and Bairro alto--and 100m or less from the famous tram stop. In short, we were in the heart of everything.
For such a perfect place, it's hard to believe how cheap it was to stay in this apartment. Perhaps it's more expensive in summer, and I know there's plenty of competition, but this apartment is superb value. The only people that I wouldn't recommend staying at Se Cathedral 1 would be those who would have trouble negotiating the four flights of stairs.
Absolutely outstanding!

Washington, DCgreat stay at Se Cathedral I
Left on 03/24/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We really enjoyed our stay at Se Cathedral I. The location was central and in close walking distance to many of the sites we were interested in seeing. It's right next door to Se Cathedral, the Baixa and Chiado districts are a short walk away, and Sao Jorge castle and the alfama district are also an easy walk from the apartment. We also found nice cafés nearby to eat at, including a nice little cafe on the ground floor of the building. The apartment itself is located on a quiet street, without a lot of hustle and bustle and noise at night - which we really appreciated after a long day of sightseeing.
When we arrived we were happy to see that the apartment looked just like the pictures online. It was also equipped with everything we needed. Yes, you have to walk 4 flights up to the apartment, but the views of the city and river are absolutely worth it! There's even a terrific view from the bathroom! There's not central heating in the apartment, but the two space heaters kept us comfortable and warm at night. The only negative was the Wifi signal was weak and sometimes intermittent. Other than that, we had no complaints.
Goncalo met us at the apartment on our first day. He was friendly, courteous, and gave us a helpful orientation to the city and the apartment. The handling of our booking and departure was professional and easy. And the guestbook was a nice touch and insightful. We would definitely recommend the apartment to others and would choose Heart & Soul Lisbon again in the future. -

LondonGreat location, great apartment
Left on 02/25/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We loved our 5 day stay in Se Cathedral I apartment. Before travelling to Lisbon it was hard to tell which area would be best to stay in. I was looking for somewhere central, not too rowdy and atmospheric. I found all of these in this apartment. It was within a 20 minute walk of all the places we wanted to visit and train stations to those that were further afield (we did a day trip to Sintra/Cascais and to the amazing Oceanarium). It was lovely to stay in the old part of town and to have such great views over the river and the cathedral. We found lots of lovely restaurants and cafes really close by (using Trip advisor) and ate lots of yummy food!
The apartment is well appointed. They have thought of everything you could want in the kitchen, such as a filter coffee machine, iron, washing machine. The double bed is king size and comfortable. The shower warm and powerful. The only slight frustration was that the wifi was a bit intermittent - strong signal near the front door but sometimes non-existent when sitting on the sofa or in the bedroom.
The booking arrangements were professionally handled. We paid a deposit via PayPal and paid the remainder in cash on arrival. Goncalo met us at the apartment and even helped us carry our bag up the four floors. He was very friendly and welcoming. He gave us a brief introduction to the apartment and helped us feel oriented to Lisbon.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone travelling to Lisbon. -

I can't fault our stay at the Se Cathedral apartment. The flat itself was clean and had everything we needed for our week long stay. The view from the lounge and bedroom windows were also amazing. Fatima gave us a quick overview of the area when we arrived which was so helpful, and provided travel cards for us to top up which I think was a great touch! A small cafe at the bottom of the apartment is very friendly and does good food. you're also well located close to the city center, metro and tram 28. We had a wonderful stay, thank you for everything!

Left on 09/21/2012 for a stay in September 2012
My husband and I stayed here for eight days and were sorry to leave. You have to climb 83 steps to get to the apartment - we are not super fit but it wasn't a problem and it really is worth it for the view alone. The apartment was clean and very well equipped, and was also light and airy. It didn't have air conditioning (we were aware of this) but even though it was quite hot during our stay it didn't matter because we were able to keep the windows open and we got a pleasant breeze flowing in to keep us cool. It is worth mentioning at this point that having the windows open meant we could hear the noise from the cafe on the ground floor (it seemed to stay open until after midnight) but it was never rowdy, and we were so tired from walking around Lisbon that it didn't matter.
The location of the apartment was absolutely perfect. The area around was very pleasant, with a good selection of restaurants, and the tram stop is very close by. You are also within easy walking distance of lots of other interesting parts of Lisbon. The cafe on the ground floor that I have already mentioned was also very useful for a light lunch or our usual coffee which we had in the morning before we set off for the day - the staff were very friendly and got to know our order without being asked!
The management staff were very friendly. We only had contact with them on arrival and departure as our stay was trouble free, but the day we arrived one of them (Mariana?) valiantly carried one of our suitcases up to the apartment and somebody else carried one down when we left.
Finally, the best bit was the view. We loved watching the boats on the river and seeing the bridge all lit up at night. -

Toronto, CanadaA Lovely Stay
Left on 05/27/2012 for a stay in February 2012
We stayed at the Sé Cathedral apartment for two weeks in February. The reservation was easy to make and the owners, Fátima, Eduardo, and Paula, were friendly, helpful, and very accommodating.
The apartment is located on the fifth floor of a well looked after building on a quiet street across from the Sé Cathedral. The apartment is on the building's top floor and has a truly breathtaking view of the river and rooftops from the kitchen and living room, of the Cathedral from the bedroom, and of the river and city from the bathroom.
As shown in photographs the apartment itself is simple, spacious, and clean. The bed is very firm but there are additional duvets that you can throw on top of the mattress if you prefer something softer. The two space heaters did a good job keeping us warm during the cooler nights. The internet connection is excellent. The kitchen is well equipped and clean as well.
The Cruzes Credo Cafe on the ground floor was a wonderful surprise. It was a pleasure to wander downstairs for lunch or to pick up some delicious chocolate cake at night before heading up. If you prefer to cook for yourself there are many small grocery stores in the area that are open late as well as a Pingo Doce supermarket that's a fifteen minute walk away.
There is a tram stop just steps away but since the apartment is so centrally located we used it only once. The Terreiro do Paço metro station is about an eight minute walk away.
It was our pleasure to stay in this apartment and we would recommend it without hesitation!

We stayed in the Se apartment in april with our two elementary age kids. I set everything up online and sent the deposit online as well. On arriving, Fatima was incredibly helpful in getting us to the apartment. She is calm, gracious, friendly, helpful, and has great recommendations for restaurants, clubs, and things to do in the area.
The apartment is just incredible. It is at the top of an old building next to Se Catedral. There is no elevator, but the stairs were just fine for us. It is decorated very nicely and has all the amenities that make vacation relaxing-full size fridge, washer, stove, coffee maker. The windows are huge and open onto small balconies (for standing not sitting), perfect for taking in the views.
The view is absolutely wonderful. In one direction, you look at Se Cathedral. In the other, a magnificent view over the rooftops to the river. We loved Portugal and this apartment was our favorite stay out of all of our European vacations. The owners are fabulous and very accomodating.
A bonus is the nice little cafe at the bottom of the building that serves wonderful coffee, drinks, and little nibbles. Fatima had some great restaurant recommendations that were spot on.
In addition, the trolley is just outside of the apartment building.
