Description from the owner
In your search for unique mountain lodging while traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway, have you ever considered an ethereal experience unlike any other?
Come experience a town, so quaint and friendly, that you will wonder why you have never been here before now. Little Switzerland NC , a summer colony founded 100 years ago, in the cool mountain elevations of the Blue Ridge of North Carolina. People then, knew that they had discovered a heaven on earth, as close to nature as the elevations will allow. It is no wonder the early settlers of the new century called it "Little" Switzerland. For it so closely resembled their fondness for the peak...Read more

Tacoma, WashingtonParkway paradise!
Left on 07/20/2011 for a stay in June 2011
Travelling by bicycle can limit our options. So, imagine our pure delight as we cycled a few yards off of the Blue Ridge Parkway to this exquisite gem, La Petite Chalet! Pictures and descriptions kept us hopeful as we neared this oasis, and we were not disappointed. Inkeeper, Jack, was busily tending his gardens when we rolled around the corner into Little Switzerland. He welcomed us...inspite of the fact that we arrived somewhat early in the day. He was just so darn accommodating but not in the least intrusive. The ideal host.
The chalet is refreshing and spacious, leaving us relaxed and not quite ready to move on, but with reluctance we did say goodby. We hope to return, coming all the way from Washington State, that is no small thing!
Bonus: Laundry room in the chalet, post office across the street are added conveniences for bicyclists. -

Cary, NCAmazing, relaxing getaway at a great Boutique Bed and Breakfast
Left on 07/02/2011 for a stay in June 2011
My Wife and I visited Jack's La Petite Chalet for a weekend getaway from Raleigh. We arrived on a Friday, left on Sunday and wish we stayed an additional few days (especially because it was about 10-15 degrees cooler!). Three things make this a "Must Stay" kind of place.
The House:
An amazing investment in upfiting this house. The furnishings and applianes are all top quality and the yard is beautiful. We opened the windows at night so we could fall asleep to the babbling stream on the side of the house! The furnishings are lively and eclectic, but really add to the charm of this place. We looked at the other lodging options in Little Switzerland and all of them require some serious updating, especially the biggest one.
The location:
Right in the heart of Little Switzerland, opposite the General store, the Coffee/Book Shop, and the Switzerland Cafe and their upstairs bar are literally a 45 second walk from the house. The shops (including an Ice Cream Shop!) at the Switzerland Inn are a 5 minute walk away. The house is at the intersection of 226a (best road I've ever been on in my Z) and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is a great hike to a waterfall about 10 minutes to the south on the Parkway and even a few gem mines in town.
The Owner:
Jack really cares about his guests. The house was kept perfect and you could really tell he wanted us to have a great time. We opted for the breakfast option, so whenver we decided to get up, we walked to our kitchen and an array of breakfast foods were waiting in the fridge. He told us about an annual free concert at the Wildacres Retreat and when he noticed how cautious I am with my car, he offered to drive us on the gravel road in his car! We gladly accepted and had a great evening enjoying some amazing music. He even made a point to stop by the pub on Saturday night to say hi because we mentioned we were going to to see the Celtic group that was playing that night. Thanks Jack!
So to summarize, if you are looking for an amazing stay at a truly unique place, where I can't see how you could have a bad time and you don't mind spending a little bit more than you'd pay to stay in an out-dated room, you can't go wrong with La Petite Chalet! -

This review is coming from someone who does not take the time to write a review unless there is a very good reason to do so (good or bad). My husband and I stayed at La Petit Chalet for my birthday weekend and I have to say that it is the one of the nicest weekends I have ever had. The house was so beautifully decorated and maintained that it reminded me of the quality you see in Disney where no detail is left untouched. The owner of the property went out of his way to make sure our stay was excellent. He made sure we were aware of everything that was going on in the area. You could really tell he loves where he lives and wants to share the experience with others. The town is also great. It is small enough to be a way to get away from the office, yet there is plenty to do. The people were very friendly. It is right off the Blue Ridge parkway and right on the Diamondback, so the scenery is beautiful and there are fun roads to explore on a motorcycle or in a sports car. It is even interesting learning about the history of the town. I highly recommend this for a long weekend or even a week long getaway!!!

Wow! From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left, all we could think of our experience was...Wow! Everything was perfect. There was not a single detail that had been forgotten. Every square inch of the chalet had been thought out in wonderous detail. Jack, our host, was welcoming and obviously very proud of his B&B;, and with good reason. Well done! We will be back.

Jack's chalet is a little unbelievable at first. One walks in from the fantastically landscaped yard and sees the gorgeous upholstered furniture, lively wall colors, impeccable window treatments, unique ceramics, perfect rugs placed perfectly on dark hardwood floors, an elegant cutting-edge designer kitchen, clever European plumbing in the bathroom and kitchen, and rich, fully appointed bedrooms and thinks, "the person who did all this really 'gets' it.” Not just hospitality as in, "welcome to my humble home,” but, "I put my heart and soul into this home to welcome you to come, stay, refresh and rejuvenate. Nothing is too good for you. I have thought of everything to make you comfortable, so relax.” Jack's standards are high; very high. Believe it.
The chalet is very comfortable. It's an older building that has been completely renovated to the last detail. There is central heat and air with an easy to use thermostat. The plumbing is all sleek, one-touch and the shower has a wand. The bedrooms have everything needed including gorgeous, room-darkening custom drapes, luggage racks, plenty of lamps with 3-way bulbs, ceiling fans, and plenty of storage. Breakfast was hard boiled eggs, bread, jelly, tea, coffee, yogurt, fruit drink, blueberries, granola, cream cheese, ham, and cheese. All the food was stored in the kitchen, so no worries about a schedule, just roll out of bed, walk down the hall, and heat whatever you'd like. I was there for a writing retreat, so I brought my yoga mat and laptop to the backyard fire pit and patio chairs, or I wrote on the front porch chairs or inside. The front porch overlooks the café across the street, the post office is on one side of the house, and Jack's house, the innkeeper, is up the hill on the other side. The chalet is in town, but once you go inside, it's a private get away.
I really enjoyed my visit and can't wait to go back.

"What a gorgeous place to spend our anniversary. The hospitality and professionalism were unparalleled. We are already planning our next trip back to "the top of the Little Switzerland NC mountains". We have traveled for many years along the NC Blue Ridge Parkway and have never seen such an elegant B&B for such a great price. The new La Petite Chalet is a very private, peaceful, welcoming and comfortable "respite”. Thank you for everything! What a delightful environment both inside and outside!! Your personal hospitality and love of design sure did show through all that you have done to open such a beautiful place to stay.

This beautiful B&B; is like no other you will ever experience and is the most wonderful Inn I have stayed at ever! The host was great, the atmosphere was perfect and it was a great location right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The chalet is warm and cozy and has plenty of charm and personality. The rooms were wonderful and spotless. The breakfast was amazing and all you would ever want for breakfast. We wanted to experience Little Switzerland in a different sort of way by staying downtown in the village itself in a local neighborhood that had some history and to get a feeling of what it`s like to live there. We got everything we hoped for - just perfect. I will definitely come back soon.

Mutual friends of mine and Jack's,La Petite Chalet's owner, suggested a few nights' stay in this beautifully and whimsically furnished mountain getaway as I traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway this summer. All the comforts of home amidst a color splash of pure delightful tones-put a wide smile on my face each morning.I mostly lazed about but did enjoy one night with Jack and some of his friends at the Chalet's firepit. We toasted marshmellows and laughed and got to know each other.Looking forward to next year, maybe more into the fall to watch the "turning of the leaves". Thomas
