More recently the house has been completely renovated and is now an all-season vacation rental. Wonderful ocean front cottage

Left on 11/14/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My husband and I stayed at Peace & Plenty for 4 days in early September 2012. We enjoyed the cottage very much. Some of the things we liked the most:
      - Ocean frontage with big waves and visiting seals!
      - Family room off the kitchen had a huge picture window facing the ocean (wonderful to sit and watch the waves)
      - Close (10 minute drive) to Liverpool for shopping and restaurants
      - Fairly private and very quiet
      - All amenities in the cottage were perfect, the dryer was an added bonus after a rainy day outing. The kitchen had everything we needed.
      - The gas fireplace was perfect to take the away the chill in the morning and for the couple of cool/rainy days.
      - The cottage is older with lots of charm.
      - The patio, BBQ and outdoor furniture were great.

Only a couple of things that could be improved:
      - Great patio but it would have helped to have a covered area (we like to sit outside even on drizzly days).
      - Some of the inside furniture was a little tired.

The cottage was in a great location, we happily took day trips to nearby beaches (Carter's Beach is awesome and not to be missed). Do take time to visit Fort Point Lighthouse Park in Liverpool; it's a hidden gem with lots of interesting history. For fish lovers, there is a fish truck at the Irvine station in Liverpool most days -- the fish was super fresh and a good value.

Thanks for the great service from Helen at Sandy Lane Vacation Rentals and all the tips and information she provided. We will rent from Sandy Lane again and recommend it to others.

      Thank you!

      Hi,

Thank you for your kind words about Peace and Plenty and Sandy Lane Vacation Rentals! I am so pleased that you enjoyed yourselves at the cottage. That picture window is really lovely - what a view. The next landfall is England! I particularly like the stone beach that is littered with shells and wonderful smooth rocks that have been worn away over time.

I will speak to the homeowner about refreshing some of the furnishings at the cottage.

I do hope to hear from you again.

      All the best,
      Helen

One small problem at this beautiful location.

Left on 07/06/2012 for a stay in June 2012

I will get the "one small (in stature) problem " out of the way right off the hop. There are ticks in the long grass. Many many little ticks. If you are human this should not be an issue. Just stay out of the tall grass and bushes. But if you have brought pets with you that is another story. I am not very squeemish and grew up just around the corner so I had no problem checking the dogs every day and removing the little guys myself. Enough about that. You can look up dangers regarding ticks from this area on your own if you want to learn more.
Now, about the property itself. Beautiful location. The price is normal for this area. Sit by the gas fireplace in the living room and stare out the big picture window at the ocean. On our first full day there were fishermen harvesting sea weed/grass in their small boats just meteres from shore with 3 seals watching them. Seals are very curious and will generally show up to gawk at any kind of activity just like us. There is a small beach just a short walk down the road. There is a cut path through the bushes to the rocky shore of the property. Great deck and new comfortable deck chairs to sit on and stare at the ocean and starry sky. They have wi-fi. My android couldn't pick it up properly but my spouse's i-phone could.
The rooms... Comfortable beds. Lots of clean linen. There are actually 2 fold out couches on the main floor so it will easily sleep 8 instead of the 6 they claim. No extra pillows for the fold outs though. We borrowed a fan on a hot evening. There are none that we could find there. Again, this was not a problem for me since I have friends and family in the area. Having said that, people are crazy friendly in Nova Scotia and I do not believe that it would be hard to borrow one from a stranger in the area.
Kitchen...Full kitchen. Bbq in the shed. Nice and clean.
Bathroom... Large full bathroom with shower and tub. Lots of clean towels.
      Washer and dryer...Oh ya!
Accessability...If you have mobility issues (we do not) there is one small step into the front door. Small lip/step into the bathroom. Bedrooms are on the second floor (moderately steep stairs) but the fold outs are on the main floor. Deck is straight off the living room.
All in all a great house/cottage and beautiful location. You need a car here. I am from here so know of all the great places to eat and wander. They could use some more postings at the cottage for those from away for local attractions. Wander down to Moose Harbour and see if any of the fishermen will take you out for an adventure. Just ask around. You will see the signs on the way.
I don't know how long this place will be an active rental. It is currently for sale. Way out of my budget. I have never had to rent in this area before but we were having a surprise birthday party for my mother and had to stay out of sight for a few days. Great place.

Thank you for your thoughtful review.

It is true, there are ticks the area, but if you stay out of long grass and check your pets, they are manageable. There is information on ticks in the information binder.

I appreciate your comment about the fans. I will try and add some to the property. Normally they are not necessary because there is usually a nice cooling breeze coming off the ocean.

The house has a maximum occupancy of 6 people because those are the bathroom to bedroom rules set out by the Department of Tourism.
