      nice apartment with fantastic views

Left on 04/14/2013 for a stay in March 2013

This was a nice clean apartment (unit B) with fantastic views in a very quiet residential area. Fairly basic but equipped with everything you will need. A small balcony and use of a small pool and braai area with beautiful views. The 2 local beaches are about 15-20 mins walk and are beautiful and quiet. A short 5 minute drive to Hout Bay shops and restaurants and only 20-30 minute drive to cape town. We had a fantastic stay and the owners were very nice and helpful. The reasons for not giving 5 stars are:
      1. shower room is very small and limited hot water - my husband had to have the door open when using the sink and there wasn't quite enough hot water for 3 of us to have a hot shower.
      2. The digital T.V. was very limited and we could only seem watch what the owners were watching. One evening we were in the middle of watching a film when it was then turned over onto a different channel and then paused for 1 1/2 hrs. We didn't go to cape town to watch TV, but when you have kids with you and you want to stay in for an evening, it is nice to have.
      3. The wooden windows need replacing. They are old and warped and don't close properly. We had a couple of days when the cape lived up to it's name - the cape of storms. When windy and raining, the windows rattled really really loudly and leaked. My son needed a bowl next to his bed to catch the rain water leaking in.
The good points to this place definitely outweigh the bad and none of these issues where major. I would happily recommend to friends and family and I would return to stay again.

      Perfect seclusion

Left on 10/19/2012 for a stay in January 2012

We stayed in Rockhopper for 6 nights in Jan 12 and loved it!
The apartment nestles into a cliffside giving wonderful views and although out of season we were lucky to spot a Brydeswhale on a couple of occasions. It was perfect for a couple, secluded, safe, quirky and generally well equipped although would benefit from a couple of sun loungers to make it perfect! There is a lovely communal pool and sun deck again with outstanding views.
Llandudno is quiet no shops or cafes but we found the location ideal. It is close enough to Cape Town and ideally situated for access to the Western Cape and Wine Route. There is a great supermarket in Hout Bay which is a short drive away and a really good (but more expensive) shopping mall in Constantia. The beach at Llandudno is beautiful and well loved by surfers and locals (be aware no cafe, umbrellas or loungers so take your own) there is also Sandy Bay which is a nudist beach but has some great rock pools!
We highly recommend Sunset on the Rocks for a relaxed, laid back, comfortable stay in a wonderful area. We will certainly return.

A great introduction to South african hospitality!

Left on 06/22/2012 for a stay in April 2012

We stayed at Sunset for our first 2 nights in South-Africa. It was everything that the website promised and more. The hosts are so wonderfully friendly and helpfull that we would recommend this location for every visitor of Cape Town and surroundings. The location of the apartements (we stayed in apartment a: Rockhopper) is brilliant. As advertised you can see the atlantic Ocean thru the giant windows. Apart from the view, the apartment was well maintained and sufficient to our needs. It's not very big, but ideal for a couple. We were offered free wifi (OK it was relatively slow, but good enough to post our blog).
The second night we were offered drinks at the hosts family table and we talked a bit about holidays and trips. Brian and Helen were kind enough to advise us about traveling in South africa and had a tip for a restaurant in the next town we were to visit.
If we go to Cape Town again. We will certainly stay at Sunset!

Nice Place in a good location

Left on 02/24/2012 for a stay in January 2012

We stayed for seven nights in the Rockhopper and enjoyed it immensely. The apartment was comfortable and well equipped, and enjoyed spectacular ocean views - unfortunately it was the wrong time of year to see any whales!
Brian and Helen were good hosts who made us welcome and feel very much at home.
Llandudno is a good location, being only about 30 minutes drive into central Cape Town, and even closer to attractions such as Table Mountain. Hout Bay, where there are good shops and restaurants, is only a 5-10 minute drive.

      Great Relaxing place to stay

Left on 10/17/2010 for a stay in July 2010

A friend and I stayed here for 5 nights and had a great time. It is nice and relaxing. It's not too close to the bustle of Cape Town but also not too far away from things. The views are amazing, and the owners welcoming. You also get a good value compared to a lot of places around Cape Town. If I ever go back to Cape Town I'd be more than happy to stay here again.

Stunning views...liked the small "touch"...of soccer ball chocolates seeing as it was the Soccer World cup...amazing rooms. I liked the fact that it was private...we felt totally relaxed...it was great to come "home" at any given time +there wasn't people wanting to clean or bug us...Truly a "Home away from Home"...
Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

Fantastic view, good location and very friendly owners

Left on 05/10/2010 for a stay in April 2010

We stayed here four nights in April and were very pleased overall. The
apartment is ideal for four persons, but five (3 children) worked just fine as
      well.

The location is ideal if you want to explore many of the lovely areas around
Cape Town, like Cape Point, Simons Town, vineyards, Robben Island etc. but
is not far from town either.

As we are lovers of the sea, we found the view, and as the name indicates,
      the sunset quite breathtaking.

The standard is overall quite high. The kitchen is somewhat limited but
      worked fine for us.

The owners were very friendly and helpful and added to the warm memories
      of our stay.

Left on 02/18/2010 for a stay in November 2009

We stayed at Sunset on the Rocks in November 2009 and found the flat more than adequate and comfortable. The two bed room flat faces is cosy and clean and has stunning sea views. You have your own space, yet Helen and her husband are more than happy to assist you with any advice you need.
I would go back to Sunset on the Rocks for a good relaxed and refreshing break and to see those freindly faces too.

      Perfect for whale watching

Left on 02/11/2010 for a stay in December 2009

We've stayed several times at sunset on the rocks and enjoyed great hospitality from our hosts Helen and Brian. The view is amazing and even in mid of December whales came into the Bay. It is a perfect place to relax at the pool deck, watch the scenery and sip a sundowner during Sunset. Ideal for individualists and families. Hout Bay is only a short drive for all supplies and the self catering option offers all you need.
The best view is from Unit B (upper level), simply fantastic!

      Beautiful, safe and so friendly

Left on 02/08/2010 for a stay in August 2009

The hosts were really helpful and friendly.
The flat was very clean, well-equipped and just as described. It's in a great location, not far from Houtbay for groceries and not too far from Cape Town but far enough to really relax. Houtbay has great tourism services and facilities, a really helpful tourist information centre.
The view of the ocean and rocks was really lovely from the main bedroom and the entire communal area. My fiancee saw wales from her bed. We braaid, ate and relaxed with such a beautiful view.

We would definately recommend Sunset on the Rocks to friends and family and can't wait to return.
