Description from the owner

Kirnan Estate has three self-catering cottages and three luxury B and B rooms. The cottages consist of a large three-bedroomed cottage and two one-bedroomed cottages. We offer both B&B; and dinner, bed and breakfast. Kirnan sits in the middle of 500 acres of natural rainforest and owns its own salmon river with six miles of excellent fishing. Kirnan is in an area of oustanding natural beauty and historic importance. Three miles away the first kings of Scotland were crowned and there are more Neolithic sites in this area than anywhere else in the UK. Heavenly holiday

Enjoyed two delightful nights at Kirnan House - delicious food, outstanding hosts and an enchanting home and grounds. We slept so well here - maybe it was the walking around the grounds or the fresh country air - would definitely return and recommend to our friends!

Kirnan is stylish, oozing with character yet crisp & fresh. Having stayed in a range of accommodation at the upper end of the market in argyll, the attention to detail, comfort and quality at Kirnan B&B; makes this the best I’ve experienced by far. Warm & welcoming hosts, breakfast including eggs from the chickens & bacon from the pigs on the estate & warm home made bread. And the best pillows!!

The place is beautiful - a lovely house set in beautiful countryside. We were made to feel so welcome. Ross cooked for us each night - delicious meals made from local ingredients. The rooms are extremely comfortable and must be newly done up - the bathrooms are particularly lovely. Ross and Di were wonderful hosts - we had a brilliant weekend. I would highly recommend Kirnan House.

      A Wee Holiday

Kirnan House is just a fabulous holiday, foreople who want to "everything" or nothing. It's a great spot to just "stop" and wind down, or to explore the argyll peninsula. The hosts are just so friendly and helpful, and it was a pity to leave.

Great food, great host, great weekend

Left on 12/19/2011 for a stay in December 2011

Myself and my partner have just returned from a pre-Christmas break at Kirnan House. We booked as a bit of a treat for ourselves, wanting peace and quiet, good food, and the chance to loll around in comfortable surroundings with log fires and lazy breakfasts.
Kirnan House did not disappoint on any of the above!
We stayed in one of the B and B rooms in the main house. It had possibly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in (quite hard to get out of!). Everything was very good quality - goose-down duvets and big fluffy white towels etc. The bathrooms was lovely too, and there was a DVD player in the room with a good selection of films to view.
We ate in the dining room on both nights and the food was delicious - locally sourced duck and lamb, scallops and langoustines.
Breakfast was equally impressive with venison sausages, haggis, black pudding etc - or fresh fruit salad and home-baked bread if you prefer a lighter option.
Our host, Ross, was extremely hospitable and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble.
The grounds at Kirnan are particularly lovely for a wander around, and it would be a great place to take kids and/or animals too.
I would definitely recommend the B and B for couples looking for a comfortable stay in this part of the world. We had a look round the cottages before we left and they seemed equally comfortable. We'll certainly be paying another visit in the new year!

      Lovely cosy getaway

Left on 11/06/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We stayed in Heron Cottage for a week from 15/10/2011 with our 2 border collies. Cottage was really comfortable and the appleyards couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. Normally when we rent a cottage we like to be out of the way, but we decided to take the risk and rent this cottage which is connected to the owners' house. This proved to a blessing as both Diana and Ross where really helpful with advice and information.
The pictures of the cottage on both Scottish country cottages website and Kirnan cottages website don't do it justice. Living room is huge and incredibly cosy, with an open fire and big couch to snuggle up on. The bed was so comfy it was difficult to get up in the morning, but freshly laid eggs for breakfast were a good incentive!

The estate is massive and has lovely woodland to explore. We spent many hours wandering through the woods watching the wildlife (which our dogs didn't scare off) including red deer during the rut. Would recommend wellies as it can be very boggy.

Overall a great cottage in a peaceful, quiet location to relax and get away from it all. Just be careful if you leave the door to courtyard open as you'll probably get a visit from a little chubby jack russell called roly who will eat your dogs food and then jump into your lap for cuddles:-)

Heron cottage was perfect for a romantic couple's break, but the larger cottage would be ideal for a family and I think kids would love seeing all the estate's animal residents and playing in the woods.

      Delightful Haven

Left on 10/11/2011 for a stay in September 2011

We stayed in Torrnaleich cottage which is a one bedroom cottage on the estate. What a fantastic little gem. It is the smallest cottage of all of those available but perfect for the two of us. The Kitchen is extremely well stocked with excellent equipment including a great coffee maker. An open fire with unlimited wood, laundry room for use any time and a supply of books and dvds just added to our experience. The friendliness of Ross and his family was just fantastic. The little extras such as free range eggs available any time (and I mean free range) to the biscuits and wine on arrival was just great. The area might be deemed quite for many but it was perfect for what we wanted on our break - rest, relaxation, walks and a 'home from home'. We will certainly be back.

We only stayed for one night but it was very memorable & we'll return soon. The appleyard's couldn't have been more welcoming & hospitable. Very comfortable room & great full Scottish breakfast in a lovely house surrounded by beautiful gardens & a mirriad of animals.
Our hosts lent us fishing rods for a couple of days & advised us on the best places to fish - and we weren't disappointed - looking forward to returning in a couple of months.

A real hidden gem- what a fantastic place

Left on 07/17/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We stumbled across this place by chance . What an amazing place : the b&b; rooms were stunning, although they don't advertise they allowed our kids to stay in an additional room above us which was perfect with soft toys and books, just magic and for no additional cost! Breakfast was amazing , freshly caught Makarels , freshly baked bread and eggs from the estate chickens ! All served on fine china just amazing . The owner Ross has a wealth of knowledge about the area and gave us lots of advise . The estate large garden and grounds have lots of animals : dogs, cats , chickens, ship, donkeys and even a lama ! Its absolutely beautiful and there are lots of chairs and tables around to sit and relax. It  was perfect for our kids and very safe to roam around . There is lots to do in the area as well
