Rochester, United KingdomSalmon School at Kirkwood
Left on 11/19/2012 for a stay in November 2012
I attended the 3 day salmon school held at Kirkwood in November 2012. It was great fun and I actually learnt to cast well enough to deal with all the wind directions from both banks. I think that I started the course as one of the two worst casters present with years of self-taught bad habits using single handed rods. This is a case where an absolute beginner has an advantage over someone with an established muscle memory to do something wrong. Things started to come together when Glyn made us both cast left-handed. There are no long established bad habits when you are doing something for the first time. A couple of days later we two were the last pair on the river and were both doing the circle C cast safely in the dark. All Glyn's patience in trying to tune our ears to the difference between a “whish” and a “whooosh” had eventually paid off. It is poetry when the cast goes out sweetly to the right place and fishes properly straightaway.
The food and accommodation were excellent. The after-dinner workshops were thought-provoking, with even the most experienced hands learning something. The company of both the delegates and the teaching staff was sparkling. The entire group bonded well. I can see why people keeps come back to these courses year after year. -

187069Meynell Wedding at Kirkwood Excellent all round
Left on 04/23/2012 for a stay in April 2012
Kirkwood is one of the best places i have ever stayed , we hired 4 cottages for 15 adults and 8 dogs and was just what we needed for a wedding party, the wood walks are excellent the area was full of wildlife, including Deer, red squirrels,Kingfishers and much much more
we had problems with the wedding car and Sam and antoney went above the call of duty and organised a replacement for us, the Wedding went brill and after the meal we all returned to Kirkwood and spent all night in the games room, playing Snooker, darts and table tennis, it was so nice getting all the Family together in one place to enjoy the evening, i can honestly say that this was one of the best weeks away i have ever had
and nothing is too much for the staff, they were always helpful and pleasant
there is something for everybody here and all the places to see are not to far away by car these self catering cottages are well worth a stay and i am looking forward to returningResponse from Anthony Steel - 04/26/2012
