Beckhead Cottage has a welcoming open fire, Satellite TV and private garden making this an ideal all year round holiday destination.

Children will delight in meeting the animals, the owners are happy to show you round and introduce your family to farming life.

When you tire of watching the lambs, explore the beautiful countryside of the Dumfries and Galloway.

The working farm is hidden away 5 minutes from the motorway near Annan making it an ideal base from which to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside without having to travel for miles to find it.

The area is steeped in history and within a short drive you can... visit the Old Blacksmith’s Shop at Gretna, famed for its weddings, Robert Burns House, Hadrian’s Wall, Hermitage Castle, Caerlaverock Castle and Sweetheart Abbey.

Nearby Dumfries has a large swimming pool ideal for rainy days and if you get tired of seeing the animal on the farm you can visit Mabie Farm Park which will keep the younger family members happy for hours.

The 310 acre farm is home to a herd of Highland cattle, Highland ponies, a Gloucester old spot pig, Tottie the mini pig, sheep and chickens.

As the farm has received an RSPB award for faming and conservation there are opportunities to learn about the diversity of the farm and its wildlife habitats either from the owners or rangers.

Walk around the farm and meet the animals, help if you like, or explore the Scottish countryside with walks and cycle ways for all to enjoy.

Mountain biking at Ae Forest or Seven Stanes are all very accessible from the cottages.

There are 3 cottages located on the farm, all furnished and equipped to a high standard.

Each cottage has a cosy open fire or log burning stove for cosy winter evenings and a garden to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside.

The owners are happy to introduce you to farm life and by arrangement will give you a tour of the farm where you can collect your own eggs on route, enjoy the local birds and wildlife, fish on the private lake or go horse riding.

The cottage has oil fired central heating and comprises:

* Lounge with open fire, satellite TV and DVD player.

* Kitchen/diner with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, washing machine and microwave.

* Double bedroom with en-suite shower rooms with hand basin and WC.

  I discovered the cottage, by accident, on Tripadvisor as I normally look on Rental agency sites when I book our holiday homes. What a lovely discovery, the cottage was like the porridge in 'Goldilocks' - Just Right!
  Only 5 minutes from the M74 or 15 minutes from the a75 at annan I was very surprised by the beauty of the surrounding countryside. My opinion had always been that the area would be flat, as this part of Dumfries and Galloway is at sea level running alongside the Solway Firth. I'd expected less but got so much more - the scenery was outstanding. We visited Brydekirk walking along the riverbanks with our dog, also to Hoddom and Hoddom Castle, Ecclefechan, Annan and Dumfries.
  The cottage was very spacious with a cosy lounge with open fire, large modern kitchen, two large bedrooms each having a very large walk-in ensuite shower. There was nothing more that I could've wished for.
  The Owners Shirley and Mike provided birdseed for the wildlife in the garden. They also run the farm which they encouraged us to visit to see their Highland Cattle, Horses, Pigs and Sheep with their Spring Lambs.
  The week we were there it had been snowing heavily so the challenge of walking our dog only added to a very memorable experience. We'll definitely be going back. Excellent!
