What Past Guests Are Saying
Dream Stay in the Loire Valley
I visited the Loire on a tour some 10 years ago and have since dreamed of going back and spending more time exploring this scenic region. I had initially thought of staying in one of the many chateau hotels I work with as a travel agent, but decided to take it a step further and rented an entire castle. This was surprisingly cheaper.
I can not say enough good things about our stay here. This was such a dream come true. Chateau de la Chance/Chateaux Chanze offers everything we wanted and more. A secluded, old world castle with many modern amenities. Heated floors in the bathroom, dishwasher, pool shared with the inn, beautiful garden with a stream running through it and a banquet table fit for a king. Tons of books and brochures on the region to read too. One of the best things was the giant fire place that could fit my whole family standing inside. We sat around after dinner each night chatting over a fire before bed. An amazing feeling.
The beds were comfortable. My husband and I took over the Henri IV suite and the wood carved canopy bed will forever be the coolest bed I ever slept in. There is even a hidden room behind a bookcase in one of the bedrooms. The winding stone staircase made me feel like I was in a Disney movie. If you ever watched Bon Voyage Charlie Brown as a child (or adult) and want to do that, come here. The grocery market is very close, as is the local Boulangerie and specialty shops. Towns such as anges and Saumur are not far at all. This was a good location for exploring the region one end to another. It is about two hours away from the famous chateaus of Blois, Amboise, Chambord or Chenonceaux, but the drive is pleasant and scenic and can easily be broken up with a visit to Villandry or museum visit in Tours.
Wi-Fi in the chateau is free, but can be spotty through the thick walls. Plenty of space on the grounds to play frisbee and fly a kite. Property manager is always available to answer questions or help. I highly suggest for large groups who want to save money over getting multiple hotel rooms.
