A beautiful house in a great location . Just far enough back from the chaos but yet close enough to the beach and restaurants for easy access. Beautiful walled area with lovely gardens . The aC was amazing to return to after the dripping heat of rainy season( most of the time rain only at night). The house was very clean with nice cotton sheets . Kitchen and bathroom had marble counters and tiles. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the utensils you have at home. Cable TV with lots of stations and a DVD player should keep you entertained into the night. Local artwork was hung on all the walls which keep the feeling of Lombok alive even after the doors were shut .The owner and his employee Samsuri were always helpful . Samsuri speaks really good English and was always willing to help and be of service.
Kuta is a amazingly beautiful place with bay after bay of gorgeous beaches . Still relatively untouched . The surf is consistent and user friendly in many spots . A great holiday at a great house , I'll be returning again soon. -

I just completed a 30 day stay here at this house. The house itself was in decent shape with the exception of the kitchen. The utensils were pretty limited and there was a bunch of the owners stuff in the freezer and stove when I got there. Plus most everything needed to be washed.
There is a mosque across the street from the house. Indonesia is an Islamic country but this should definitely have been included in the property description. I would definitely classify this mosque as more festive than most. You will get the wake up call but then they like to go on 1-2 hour broadcasts in the evening between 6-8PM. They let kids practice with the mic, its like a talent contest every night. You are about 50 meters away from the speakers so you will catch it all. It is not uncommon for visiting Imam's to come to town and have a shin dig all day long. I don't speak Indonesian but I don't have to know the language to understand that some of the rhetoric was not friendly.
As far as world class surfing...if you would know the difference you may want to look into the trade winds and the aspects of the beaches in Southern Lombok before you set out. You also need to be savvy with the lunar tides. Plus the logistics of the situation is really sketchy. You have to know where to be, when to be there and you have to know how to get there. Most days there is nowhere, and when there is surf you will have plenty of company. Don't confuse Indonesia with australia or New Zealand.
There were also issues with booking the property, the owner likes to use Paypal and they are difficult on the best of days especially with international transfers. 3 weeks after I sent the money Paypal flipped the transfer. Apparently it was for my own protection? I ended up sending a wire at my own expense including a wire transfer fee $15 and a currency conversion fee to to the owner's bank of $20.
Indonesia is a very chaotic and unpredictable place to visit. Here the owner is really of no use he was aloof and a lot of the information he gave me was worthless at best and incorrect at worst. What makes solo travel possible here is assistance from a local. There is a caretaker at the property that who extremely helpful.
Indonesia is a valuable cultural experience. Just hope that the caretaker is still available otherwise you are on your own. Have fun and beware!Response from Lee Pappernow - 02/07/2013
Owner
I am the owner accused of being "no use... aloof” and of providing “a lot of worthless, incorrect information”" I have almost FIFTY (50) emails to and from this guest, the vast majority of my emails being responses to continuing demands - long before his arrival.
My staff and I secured a local car rental for him, provided free transportation to and from the Praya airport, assisted him with directions, responded to requests for power adaptors, questions about local surf spots, money changing facilities in Lombok, rental payment options, detailed descriptions of the two cars available for rental, resolution of his issues with PayPal (which no other guest has experienced), directed him to internet sites and much, much more, all in response to countless queries and demands for information from this guest.
I provided, without charge, the full-time services of my employee Samsuri to act as his guide and provide virtually daily support for this vacationer's 30 day long stay in our villa.
What I got in response was derogatory emails and berating comments about me and my family members (here’s an example, word-for-word): “Oh, I met your son in law the other day. He was crashed on the front lawn when I woke up. Nice work! Your daughter is no doubt a chip off the old block too”... (this, after my son, who arrived at 3 am in the morning by ferry from Bali, courteously decided not to wake me or this guest, and took a snooze in the front yard’s gazebo until daylight).
The description of the villa is NOT "imcomplete" - it clearly and accurately states: “Located on Jalan Raya Kuta near/across from Kuta Mosque.
The kitchen was spotless (I inspected it the day before this guest arrived). The “bunch of the owners stuff in the freezer and stove when I got there” consisted of a loaf of freshly baked sourdough bread (bread in Lombok is not tasty – it’s a rather sickly-sweet white bread) so I bake fresh sourdough bread for guests; the “stuff in the oven" was a baking stone on the bottom tray (used to bake the sourdough bread so it has a nice crispy crust, in the only stove on the premises, ).
I’ll leave it to you, the reader, to decide the veracity of this guest’s complaints.

Ulverstone, TasmaniaThe perfect family get away - ages 2-68
Left on 01/03/2012 for a stay in January 2012
The description of location was accurate and the photos reflected exactly where we stayed. The property is new and very well maintained. What we needed was a place that had self-catering,comfortable facilities for people aged 2-67 with easy access to beaches and that is exactly what we got. We enjoyed the unobtrusive hospitality and local knowledge of the of the owner and helpers and found ourselves the perfect place to relax. With an enclosed yard we always knew where the kids were and also a nice living/dining room where we could all relax together. We hired a car and were at a wonderful family beach within minutes. We also went finishing and had surfing lessons and when we didn't want to cook and clean up - we headed down to a fantastic restaurant only minutes away. Highly recommended. We hope that we will be able to come back and stay here again soon.
