The Area
Kensington
Kensington is frequently associated with the city’s best dressed and well-heeled. As such, it is no surprise that it is notable in particular for its main commercial artery, Kensington High Street, home of the Whole Foods Market flagship store and a vast selection of affordable brand names. Moving westwards takes you to Shepherd’s Bush, home of the behemoth Westfield shopping centre, the largest urban mall in Europe. Alighting at the South Kensington tube stop, you begin to understand the area’s reputation as the city’s heart of high-brow culture. Right next to the station you will find a tightly knit (and well signposted) corridor of museums and galleries, all of which date from the 1851 Great Exhibition, whose profits Prince Albert used to regenerate the area. This includes the V&A;, Science and Natural History Museums, as well as the Royal Albert Hall. The beauty of Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park adds weight to London's title of most verdant city of its size in the world.

Houston, TXFantastic Home Base - Ideal for Walkers
Left on 02/17/2013 for a stay in September 2012
My husband and I stayed for about 10 days in this lovely one-room flat. While centrally located in a busy part of town, it sits off a charming walkway near a church (St. Mary abbots), and so is very quiet. We chose it because we wanted to be able to walk about London. It is within a pleasant walking distance - a few miles - to many of London's sites (museums, palaces, theaters) - so we could get our exercise while enjoying London's streets and parks. For farther distances, the flat is ideally located near several Underground stations and had convenient access to train stations. There are many near-by restaurants and a grocery store. The flat is bright, well laid out, beautifully appointed, and has all the needed amenities - perfect for two people. The pull-out bed is very comfortable (I was a little skeptical of how comfortable a pull out can be before we arrived). The bath is on the small side, but that was anticipated. We certainly want to stay here during future trips! And we certainly will work with Ivy Lettings in the future - we received first-rate service from our initial inquiry through our last day in London.

SingaporeNice apartment in great location, but my eviction left me speech
Left on 08/20/2012 for a stay in July 2012
I rented the apartment for a 10-day stay during the Olympics 2012 season. Just when I was about to sign the tenancy agreement, Ivy Lettings offered me a late checkout at 5pm owing to my late flight out of London Heathrow at 10pm on my day of checkout. On the morning of my checkout at 9.30am, Ivy Lettings sent me an email telling me that my checkout time, however, was the usual time of 10.30am because they had another tenant checking in that same day and they needed to clean up the apartment. This left me flabbergasted, and they gave me a compromise check-out time of 11.30am after I reminded them of our agreed check-out time of 5pm. A good thing I had data service on my mobile phone - what if I had already left the apartment before 9.30am? How could they have expected me to check out with just 1 hour's notice?
I left at 10.30am feeling rather sore about my treatment that last morning by Ivy Lettings, because I actually had a very enjoyable stay at Kensington Church Walk. It was a lovely studio in a great location just steps away from High St Kensington tube station, with easy access to shops, supermarkets (WholeFoods and Marks & Spencer) and restaurants nearby. I would recommend this vacation rental, and would have rated it much more highly if not for my awful experience on the morning of my checkout.Response from Ivy Lettings - 10/09/2012

Dear Guest, thank you for your review and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay in the apartment. As for the checkout, I can only sincerely apologise for this confusion. We never promise we can accommodate late check outs but you should certainly have been advised with more warning that yours was not going to be possible. The Olympics were the busiest time in our trading history and our logistics team were severely stretched during this period, but all the same I am sorry to have let you down. Thank you for using us and I hope we can welcome you back in future. Sincerely, Guy van der Westhuizen (MD Ivy Lettings)

USAQuiet comfort in the city
Left on 06/03/2012 for a stay in December 2011
This studio was perfect for our Christmas stay in London. It is only a couple blocks from the Tube station. The neighborhood was very nice and quiet. Within walking distance of Hyde Park. The studio is spacious and the sofa sleeper (hide-a-bed) was truly as comfortable as a bed!
Ivy Lettings was fabulous to deal with. They promptly answered all our questions and where very flexible with our arrival time (we were held up at the airport for two hours due to an immigration worker's slow down). We will definitely contact Ivy Lettings for our next trip to London. The price was a bit high, but we were paying for a very central location.Response from Ivy Lettings - 10/09/2012

New York CityBeautiful apartment, perfect location
Left on 08/22/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We had a wonderful time in this studio. It's actually more spacious that it looks from the photos. It has a very high ceiling and is airy, bright, and comfortable. All the facilities - kitchen, bathroom, bed - are in excellent condition. It's also extremely quiet and private despite being in s very central location. It's a perfect base: walking distance to great shopping and eating on Kensington High Street, Notting Hill, Portobello, Queensway, and the West End. And very close to Holland Park and Hyde Park. Subways and buses are very close by and there's even a stand for bike rentals at the end of the street. You can feel like a Londoner here! We had a great time and recommend it highly.
