Additional Location Information
East London is as alive, multi-cultural and seeped in history as one imagines it to be! It has a wonderful duality going on in many ways: new and traditional, moneyed and bohemian, stylish and gritty…not to mention being home to the most famous locals of any London neighbourhood: Cockney Londoners. In order to qualify as a true Cockney, you have to be born within ear-shot of the Bow Church Bells!
Here you have your pick of wonderful, lively local street markets to enjoy. Much loved by locals and visitors alike, these markets are busy and bustling and and can be great fun. Take your pick from Columbia Road Flower Market, Brick Lane, Broadway Market, Spitalfields, and Pettycoat Lane. This entire area offers a host of restaurants, live music venues, bars and pubs, as well as quite a few renowned and respected museums and galleries such as the Cube and the Geffrye Museum.
Walking is always the best way to take it all in, so we recommend that you wander through the City and visit St Pauls. Cross the Milennium Bridge and behold the inspiring sight that is Shakespeare’s Globe theatre. Tate Modern is always worth a visit, even if its only to admire this incredible building from the outside. Heading off in a westerly direction will take you to green and leafy Bloomsbury, with the British Museum. As everyone visitor to this treasure trove knows…it will take you a few years at least to even begin to see everything that this amazing museum has to offer. Medieval London can be found in the four Inns of Court, and if you need a little break from all this history and culture, find one of the many cycle paths down by the canals. A wonderful place to wander around and find a local pub for a bit of lunch…
Alive and fascinating both by day and by night, this area has enough entertainment, culture and history to keep any visitor delighted and engaged. The choices are endless…
