What's Nearby:
Additional Location Information
Westminster is an area of central London, within the City of Westminster, England. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames, southwest of the City of London and 0.5 miles (0.8 km) southwest of Charing Cross. It has a large concentration of London's historic and prestigious landmarks and visitor attractions, including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Cathedral, and Westminster Abbey.
Historically a part of Middlesex, the name Westminster was the ancient description for the area around Westminster Abbey – the West Minster, or monastery church, that gave the area its name – which has been the seat of the government of England (and later the British government) for almost a thousand years. Westminster is the location of the Palace of Westminster, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which houses the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
The historic core of Westminster is the former Thorney Island on which Westminster Abbey was built. The Abbey became the traditional venue of the coronation of the kings and queens of England. The nearby Palace of Westminster came to be the principal royal residence after the Norman conquest of England in 1066, and later housed the developing Parliament and law courts of England. It can be said that London thus has developed two distinct focal points: an economic one in the City of London; and a political and cultural one in Westminster, where the Royal Court had its home. This division is still very apparent today.

Minneapolis, MN USAGreat Flat in a Great area
Left on 04/06/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We had a great stay at the St. James apartments. The location was great...just a short walk to Big Ben, Westminster abbey, London Eye, and the tube station. The apartment itself was the perfect size for 3 adults and was clean.
The only negative thing I would say is that the flat has been a little "beat up" previously. The couch was pretty worn down, the shower "door" was falling apart, and one of the door thresholds had a lot of wear and tear to it. Nothing that took away from our positive visit.

Thanks for your comment. I'm thrilled you enjoyed your time at the apartment.
We are constantly maintaining our apartments. The apartments are constantly used and as a result can become a little tired at times. We do treat the maintenance and upkeep of our apartments very seriously, and will immediately look into this apartments needs.
Thanks.
Derek

Hi,
Thanks for your review.
Unfortunately there are many different plug types in the world. I'm glad that you enjoyed the apartment otherwise though.
Kind regards,

Lake Forest, IL USABeware of the beds!
Left on 01/17/2012 for a stay in December 2011
While this flat is very nicely located, and very well appointed, I would not recommend it unless the owner made some changes. First off, the mattresses are just awful, cheaper than any found on any pull out sofa that I've ever encountered. We were all very uncomfortable the whole week sleeping on these mattresses. Secondly, there are some maintenance issues that need to be dealt with. The shower in the hall bath has a door that will not properly close. As a result, water gets all over the floor every time someone showers. And that shower has a lot of mold in it,so the room smells moldy. And the lights in that inside bathroom are faulty. At first we couldn't get them to go on. After numerous tries we got them on but then could never get them to go off again, so we left them on 24 hours a day. Then there is the cooktop. It's faulty too. Sometimes we could get it to go on, other times we struggled for 20 minutes with it to get the burners to go on. Very frustrating. The glasses and plates are hodge podge and incomplete. There's no more than two glasses of any one type. And the electric kettle is encrused in minerals and very unappetizing. My wife refused to use it. Lastly, the lightbulbs used in the ceiling throughout this flat are too dim. The whole apartment is underlit and dim and leaves one craving some bright light. Clearly this flat needs some attention, and I would recommend avoiding it until these items are tended to.

Thank you for your considered email.
Whilst we are obviously upset that the apartment did not meet your expectations, nor the high ones we set ourselves as reflected in the six other 4/5* reviews, we would like to demonstrate that this was very much the exception as opposed to the rule.
We do of course have rigorous maintenance procedures in place that generally serve our guest's needs very well, but on this occasion they do seem to have fallen short. We are aware that sometimes mistakes and oversights can occur, and whilst we believe the general standard of the apartment to be closer to the 4/5* level, we can appreciate that several poor nights sleep and one or two other issues have tainted your view.
We are in the process of arranging brand new orthopedic beds, which will I am sure, will allow for fantastic nights sleep for all future guests. We are also replacing the crockery, which on closer inspection, although not defunct, could do with a freshening up. We have also taken on your feedback, which has never been reported before regarding the lights, and have increased the brightness in key areas to make the flat more comfortable. The other minor items that have been mentioned have had clearer instructions attached to them as there appears to be nothing wrong with the hob or the bathroom lights.
We always strive for 5* standards and whilst mistakes inevitably can and do occur we fundamentally believe that so long as appropriate steps are taken to rectify them and we continuously aim to improve our properties then we will be satisfied that our high self-imposed standards and those equally high expectations of our guests can be maintained.
To this end we would like to welcome you back to our St James apartment and shall email you separately as to the conditions of this.
Thank you again for your feedback and we hope we can take this less than ideal experience and use it positively for future guests. We apologise again and hope to welcome you back immanently to demonstrate that we take our negative feedback very seriously indeed.
Kind regards,
Derek

West Kingston, RiGreat Flat in Westminster
Left on 08/17/2011 for a stay in August 2011
The flat is wonderful- quiet and clean. It was an easy 15 minute walk to Buckingham Palace and 25 minutes to Parliment and Westminster abby. My husband stayed up later than the rest of us watching tv which we could not hear in the far bedroom.
Although we did not cook the kitchen was well stocked with everything one would need.
The only thing that could be improved on would be the beds which are quite lumpy.Response from Boutique London Lets - 08/18/2011

I travelled with my daughter, my friend and her daughters and we really enjoyed our stay at the st. James apartment.
The location is quiet and perfect to visit all the areas of Central London, some of which are reachable with a pleasant walk.
The apartment is beautifully decorated, very clean and very well equipped-washing machine, dishwasher, tv, dvd, etc.
We will probably make the same choice for our next trip to London and will recommend it to our friends.

It's been a year since we went so I can't remember the things that may have annoyed me about this place--overall impression was good and that I'd be happy to stay there again. In a lovely neighborhood a short walk from Tube and bus stops. There was a problem with the alarm going off when we first came in and that took some time for management to resolve but after that things went smoothly. Beds were fine. Bathrooms were quite nice. We added a rollaway for our youngest (age 7) and he was comfortable although it did make the bedroom a little crowded. We made good use of the kitchen for breakfast and one dinner but didnt really cook much.

The St James is very convenient, nicely appointed, and well managed. My wife and I were traveling with our 4 children, ages 11 to 16, and we were very comfortable there. Walking distance (half mile) to Big Ben and the tube. Communication with management was easy and smooth, as was the key pick up and drop off.
