Additional Location Information
Canary Wharf is a thriving space and vibrant business district with a wide range of shops, restaurants, pubs and wine bars and excellent transport links with very quick access to West End, Greenwich, O2 and Stratford (Westfield/Olympics).
Canary Wharf is a major financial and business hub and as such is very safe, has great shopping facilities and many bars/restaurants serving the local business/residential community. The estate itself is designed by some of the worlds leading architects and is ultra-modern and is nestled between the historic sites of Tower of London, Tower Bridge and Greenwich (World Heritage Site).
Manilla Street is a very quiet road with the occasional pedestrian/vehicle movement. There is a traditional british pub at one of the street and the River Thames (with river walks) at one end. There are two Indian restaurants, a Thai and a local supermarket (open till midnight) a stone's throw from the front door. It takes 5 mins to walk to the shopping malls and tube at Canary Wharf.

This home is fantastic! The apartment is a cozy and clean studio located 5 minutes from the Canary Wharf tube stop. This property is not in downtown London, but it's very convenient and easy to get around. It is around the corner from a small market where you can buy basic groceries. There are also a couple of restaurants nearby. I felt safe coming home at night and the streets were well lit. The apartment was very clean and had all the necessities of home. John, the owner, is fabulous. He is attentive, welcoming, and very responsive to emails. I would definitely go back! I highly recommend this home!

I was a very pleasant stay, we were really impressed with how organised it was. A warm welcome guided us through, and all necessary information about the flat and surroundings were carefully provided. We would definitely recommend it to couples. Great area for people who want to get away from the hype and still have a good time in a different side of the city. We are also planning to stay there again in the near future.

Auckland Central, New ZealandAn excellent flat!
Left on 12/02/2012 for a stay in November 2012
My mother and I stayed in this apartment for one week during our visit to London. As other travelers have described, this flat was everything we required and more - tastefully designed and decorated, extremely clean and comfortable and excellent value for money. We really appreciated the use of WiFi in the flat to stay in contact with family and friends back home.
The kitchen and bathroom were excellent and easy to use - water pressure in the shower was great - and John even provided straighteners and a hair dryer for our use which we really appreciated! The pull-out bed was super comfy too and a great feature designed to maximise space!
The flat is located in Zone 2, so not totally 'central London,' but central enough to make the commute a breeze - only a few minutes to London Bridge and Bond Street, and the shortcut to the tube John showed us took us straight to the flat in a couple of minutes walk.
However perhaps the nicest thing about our stay was John, who waited to meet us at 7pm in the evening and who was extremely welcoming and helpful with a great sense of humour.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this flat to anyone looking for reasonably priced accommodation in a great location - we will be back! Thank you John! -

Dublin, IrelandGreat stay and alternative to a hotel
Left on 10/31/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Myself and my partner stayed here for 4 nights in late October and had a very enjoyable stay.
First impressions of the apartment were that it was very clean, tastefully decorated and albeit small, had a homely, cosy feel to it. Facilities are very much abundant, easy to use oven/cooker, nice sized fridge, good TV, coffee maker, etc..., and a hair dryer and straightener, much to my partners delight!
Location-wise the apartment is excellent. It is certainly not the centre of London, but I don't believe the owner ever pretended it was, it does however have great transport links. The Tube was only about 15 minutes to Bond Street (Oxford Street Shopping) and about 10 minutes to Westfield in Stratford, a monstrous shopping centre with more brands than I could name. More locally, there was a Tesco's across the road which was great for drinks and snacks and an array of boutique eateries and coffee shops just a few minutes walk away.
The size of the apartment was never really an issue for us. We knew that it was going to be small by other city standards, but as a frequent traveller to London, I know that it is far bigger than your average hotel room and more importantly, much cheaper. To put it into context, we've usually stayed in a hotel about 300 meters away from John's apartment, and generally over the years, we've been paying an average of about £130 a night, and getting a 21m2 room. So to pay significantly less than that, get 17m2 more and be in the same location, for us, was an excellent deal, one which we'd be more than happy to repeat or recommend. -

Perth, WAA brilliant flat
Left on 10/27/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We found this flat to be everything we wanted and more. It is perfectly sized for two people, with a modern kitchen and bathroom (bath and over-bath shower) and a trundle-style bed that pulls out at night and disappears during the day (and was comfortable to sleep in). The flat is nicely furnished and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful when he met us, and has a collection of guidebooks for London within the flat for guests to use. The free WiFi was a bonus too.
Canary Wharf itself is a great area to stay, with plenty of shops and restaurants and wonderful transport links. We would definitely stay here again. -

My friend and I stayed at this beautiful Canary Wharf apartment for 9 days in april. We had a wonderful time and I would definitely book this apartment again for my next trip to London.
Canary Wharf is a lovely area; very new, safe and quiet. I felt at home there right from the beginning. The tube stop is so close that you don't need to worry about any other mode of transportation for the whole trip. There are plenty of restaurants near by, plus a Marks & Spencers food store near the tube stop.
The apartment is very tastefully decorated and contains absolutely everything you would need for your stay. Everything was clean and in working condition when we arrived. The kitchen is especially great if you were planning on doing your own cooking for the trip.
The size is very good for 2 travellers. I would only recommend using it for 3 if one was a child.
The property owner John is exceptionally helpful and a wonderful person to rent from. He takes time to answer all questions and gives great advice. -

I write this while sitting in the flat, the day before departure. We've enjoyed this little "home away from home" while visiting London. I had asked John if we could check in a few hours early and he agreed. He was just finishing up here when we arrived and he cheerfully gave us a tour of the apartment. It is clean and comfortable, a nice place to come home to after a hard day's sightseeing!
One of our concerns was that we'd be arriving home after dark most evenings. However, as he assured us, we had not one moment of discomfort during our walks from the tube.
Another concern was that it would be an ordeal to walk to and from the tube. However, it's not far at all, five to ten minutes. From there, it's 20 minutes or so to the main London attractions. If one wanted to, they could hop a bus from the tube and arrive just a block from the apartment, but we never felt it was worth waiting for a bus to avoid such a short walk.
We've enjoyed having a kitchen, the internet, and the evening international free phone service.
This isn't a negative, but just something worth mentioning: the steps up to the living room are higher than standard - also the bed, which slides in and out from beneath the living room is somewhat lower than the norm. If a person has trouble with steps or getting up from a lower than normal bed they might want to be aware of these things. (After a hard day's walking our stiff legs balked at the steps!)
All in all this studio flat is a winner and we are happy to have spent our time in London here. -

Tip-Unit is much smaller than the way the pictures depict it! There was 3 adults staying in the unit for 5 nights including my wife and our youngest son who just completed a semester abroad at a school in Grantham. Location was away from popular spots in London which made for quiet evenings. It was very hot the week we stayed and the portable air conditioner did not put out enough cool air for the apt at night. Overall, the apartment met our needs but for the length of stay it was way too cramped. I thought the couch in the loft area was a sofa bed but it was not. The cot provided was very uncomfortable for our son. Very convenient for subway access and the bus line is just 1/2 block away. I'm only recommending it because of it's quiet location, proximity to the subway/bus line and the landlord was very easy to work with.
Response from E14 Apartment - 08/21/2011
Owner
Tom, thanks for taking the time to provide some really useful feedback. I am sorry the flat didn't meet all your expectations. I have had feedback that some people do find the flat cramped when using the extra fold-out bed. (I am sorry you made the assumption the sofa was a sofabed) and I am going to make sure it is explicitly clear in future that the flat sleeps 2 (a couple) and that there is 'potential' for a 3rd guest if guests want to make further savings; however they will be compromising their space and comfort, especially when it is exceptionally hot as it was the week you were here when temperatures were unexpectedly hitting 30C plus. I am really glad you mention it as groups of 3 or more might be better off investing in a larger sized property, especially if they are staying for more than a few days.
I saw the springs and leg on the folding bed had come apart during your stay which must have been uncomfortable for you and I have replaced that bed with a much more robust and comfortable 'Jay-be' bed for parties with a third guest. This folds away much more easily and sits out of the way when not in use.
I am transparent in the property description about the size of the property (38sqm) and its location (zone 2) and journey times are clearly stated . I have factored in this when pricing the property and I believe the price is realistic (if not exceptional value) for the size/location. (The smaller flats above this one are rented for a minimum of £120 a night) Before booking you had told me your son had highly recommended Canary Wharf to you so I believed you had a idea of the locale and what to expect. Many guests (and residents of Canary Wharf) enjoy a busy day in the west end before a quick journey back to enjoy some of the many fantastic restaurants at West India Quay and along the riverside (Jamie Oliver's and Gordon Ramsays) as well as some really historic pubs and interesting walks. I have now put together a list of these for future guests so that though the street is very quiet, guests can be aware of things to do within minutes of the apartment.
Thank you again for the comments.

Left on 07/08/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We really enjoyed our stay here in June. John was extremely helpful and had presented the apartment to a very high standard. We especially loved the kitchen and the very clever use of the space. It was such a comfortable place to come home to after a day in London. Easy to get into the heart of the city, but very peaceful for sleeping. We really enjoyed being able to walk out the door and stroll along the fascinating Thames Path. Having an efficient internet connection was also much appreciated. If we are ever in London again we will definitely stay here again.

From the moment we came up the sidewalk and John met us at the open door of the flat, we fell in love with it. What a fantastic experience! It's a sweet little place, just perfect for two or three people. Spotlessly clean, cleverly designed, extremely comfortable and just a quick walk from the Canary Wharf tube which takes you right downtown in minutes. I will be staying here every time I go to London! There was absolutely nothing that we could have wished for or wanted to make the stay any more convenient or wonderful. What a truly priceless little gem of a place, owned by a wonderful gentleman. I've traveled over a good part of the world and never found a place quite as delightful as this. We got so lucky with this find, and I'd could not recommend it any higher; this was a sublime place to call home while we were so very far from our own homes.
Ps - the Indian restaurant across the street (Lime) is very good. -

Los AngelesVery small ground floor apartment out in Canary Wharf was okay.
Left on 04/28/2011 for a stay in March 2011
I stayed in this apartment for 7 nights in March 2011 while on vacation in London.
The apartment is located in the newer Canary Wharf area which is a bit far from the city center. Taking the tube to Canary Wharf is very easy, but it far enough from the center that once you're in for the night, you don't want to go out again. So in all just a bit inconvenient.
The apartment was fairly easy to find and I got in using the provided key (stored in a locked combination box) with no problem. There was no one to receive me or to greet me or to show me how things work in the apartment. Only a big deal because on my arrival, the internet in the apartment was not working. Turns out a new router was needed. A little annoying to have to deal with this.
The apartment was not dirty, but it didn't seem to have been professionally cleaned. There was some dirt in the sink area, some of the dishes and silverware were dirty and there was just generally a dusty feel inside of the apartment.
My mom joined me at the apartment 3 days after I arrived and once she arrived it felt very crowded. The space is most definitely small - a studio apartment. Bigger than a hotel room, but in my opinion not really appropriate for more than one person. The main bed of the apartment pulls out from a compartment and sits right in front of the front door. Given that the apartment is at ground level, you can hear everyone walking past the door. A little unsettling at night when you are trying to sleep. A second bed was made up for my mom, but with the extra bed, there left very little space in the apartment.
The biggest problem: We were given 3 towels for the week. By the 3rd day, they smelled like mildew and we had to wash them. How inconvenient! A guest should not have to wash their own towels. Why not just leave enough towels for your guests to be comfortable? Also, the shower curtain smelled like mildew and had visible mildew. Gross!
In all, we got a great deal on the apartment. However it felt like we were staying in a bachelor's pad - nice place but absolutely no finishing touches.Response from E14 Apartment - 06/30/2011
Owner
The apartment is in Zone 2 (there are 6 zones in London) and is priced accordingly. Many guests have commented on how they enjoy returning to Canary Wharf after the freneticism of the West End. An apartment in the right in the centre of the city would cost approximately double if not more and the last time I looked this was the the lowest priced apartment available on Tripadvisor in London. There are many places to go out in the evening and as Canary Wharf is a financial hub it is very well equipped with 'high end' restaurants (Jamie Oliver's, Gordon Ramsay's etc are minutes away) as well as many riverside historic pubs and restaurants. Travel times from Canary Wharf are available on my profile as is an accurate description, photographs of the layout/situ of the property. However, the street is extremely quiet with only the occasional passerby. Previous guests have commented on the quiet and many of my parties have been groups of 3 (and sometimes 4).Most have a very realistic view of space/price ratio. for London.
I am sorry that the flat didn't reach the guests or my usual high standards. Partly I think this was due to me getting involved in an email exchage with this guest in the early hours of the morning regarding student riots and travel disruption and I was trying to be helpful and responsive. And I checked the status of station/line closures again during the day. I had been concerned the guest was travelling with her parent and would get caught up in it. Instead of trying to be helpful I should have focussed on the cleaning. The internet was working and the guest called me to report it had stopped working and whilst we spoke it started working again. She texted a few days later to say it had stopped again and I got on the phone to the providers immediately and it was fully resolved the next morning.
The guest could have mentioned needing more towels and I would have been delighted to provide her with more had I known there was a need. I generally give guests 3 towels each and if they are hung up to air on the hooks provided and the shower curtain extended after use there are no reported problems.
It is always a shame to read about a guest negative experience. I do ask that guests report any problems promptly so that issues can be resolved immediately. I genuinely want people to enjoy their stay and be comfortable I think this is borne out in the other favourable reviews.

We enjoyed our stay at this flat and John was great - even made a cell phone available to use while we were there. Also liked that you could make free calls anywhere in the world during the evenings. The place was immaculate and had everything we needed. Comfortable but very small, but then that is London!

Perfect for the budget traveller! I was traveling with my nineteen year old daughter and her girlfriend. Was a bit nervous about traveling without my husband but after arriving at the flat I felt completely at ease. It is in a safe area and I was comfortable walking alone to the grocery store near the Canary Wharf tube station!
The flat is immaculate and has everything you could possible need for your visit! John Wallace is a wonderful warm young man who went out of his way to help us! My only regret is that I didn't have a few more days! London is amazing! -

We stayed at the flat for 4 days, visiting the tourism fair at ExCel. The location was great, close to the venue and not far from the city centre (the flat is a mere 5 minutes walk from the Canary Wharf Jubilee tube station). The shopping mall and restaurants are next to the tube station, a very comfortable place to stay. All furniture is new, and the kitchen completely equipped, a very nice bathroom as well. Perfect for 2 people, although there is an additional bed. The flat has also a wi-fi internet connection, a must if you're traveling for business. I recommend this flat to both business and leisure travelers.

Left on 09/24/2010 for a stay in September 2010
We were lucky enough to find this great deal just in the nick of time before our mom visited from broad and booked for the beginning and end of September. The place was lovely, modern, homey and so superbly located we wanted it for our own!
Although, primarily, this bedsit is designed for the comfort of two people we were able to all three stay there as privacy was not essential for us and the space comes stocked with a folding cot style bed and the split level saves space and offered enough privacy for us.
The kitchen is very well equipped and the space has many well thought out home comforts with a unique modern minimalistic style. At the beginning of September it was a bit warm in there during the hot spell in London but there were two large fans provided which saved the day. We also enjoyed the use of the Brita filter, lovely french candles and the organic feel of the place. (It even had child proof safety on the lower cupboard doors for those with children.)
The best thing about the place is the ease of access to all the travel routes be it Tube, Bus, DLR or even ferry boat which are all minutes away and all under a half hour to get to centre of London (awesome as the nights were oh so quiet). There is a FANTASTIC modern restaurant serving very reasonably priced gourmet Indian food two steps down which has awesome service and superb dishes as well as a 24 hour food shop around the corner with all sorts of goodies therein. The evening walk home truly was a treat and the nights were lovely and quiet which was ideal for us.
John was a pleasure to deal with and always easy to reach. We had our share of apprehensions about renting anything off the web as we were on a budget looking for that nice find but only ran in to a lot of scammers. John was awesome about answering our copius questions with honest communication eliminated all our worries.
This place has our seal of approval. :) -

We really enjoyed staying at the E14 flat. Everything in the flat was new and very clean, sleek, and stylish. The place would be perfect for a couple, but as a family we found it very livable. The service was very good and the owner was very responsive. The area is interesting because it is very close to residential, high finance and shopping zones. Supermarkets of all size were very near by (very close to the tube stop at Canary Wharf) and there are some good restaurants within a short walk. My family really enjoyed the riverwalk in the early evenings after a long day traveling into central London. Overall the area is very contemporary and safe.
If we come back to London, we will definitely look to stay here again.
