Vauxhall is an inner city area of South London in the London Borough of Lambeth. It was once in the historic county of Surrey.
It has also given its name to the Vauxhall Parliamentary Constituency, which also includes parts of Brixton and Clapham, and to the Vauxhall Motors car manufacturer, which originated in the area.
In 1998, Vauxhall became part of the borough's North Lambeth town centre, for local government administrative purposes.
It is generally accepted that the etymology of Vauxhall is from the name of Falkes de Breauté, the head of King John's mercenaries, who owned a large house in the area which was referred to as Faulke's Hall, later Foxhall, and eventually Vauxhall. The area only became generally known by this name when the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens opened as a public attraction. Initially most visitors would have approached by river, but crowds of Londoners of all classes came to know the area after the construction of Westminster Bridge in the 1740s.
Vauxhall is a very ethnically diverse area, with approximately 40% of residents originating from a non-white ethnic group.[7] There is a significant Portuguese community, some with a connection to Madeira; many Portuguese restaurants and bars are located in South Lambeth Road and the surrounding area. There is also a significant Muslim community, with amost 6% of residents declaring themselves as Muslim in the 2001 census.
The late 1990s/early first decade of the 21st century explosion in London property prices has led to a boom in riverside construction and property re-developments, such as the large St George Wharf development by Vauxhall Bridge. Residents include John Major and Chelsea Clinton.
The impact of new construction and the rise in land values has created a dramatic change in Vauxhall's demographics.
By Vauxhall Bridge is the central headquarters of the British Secret Intelligence Service (more commonly referred to as MI6), which occupies offices built between 1989 and 1992 and commonly referred to as Vauxhall Cross. More recently, a large complex of apartments and offices has been built to the south of Vauxhall Bridge at St George Wharf. Part of this development includes the planned St George Wharf Tower, which upon completion will be the tallest residential building in the UK.
The MI6 building has featured in several James Bond films, initially filmed without permission but then condoned by then Foreign Secretary Robin Cook with his memorable "After all James Bond has done for Britain..." quip. It is seen in GoldenEye, The World Is Not Enough (wherein it suffers a fictional terrorist attack that prefigured a genuine incident) and Die Another Day. The latter featured a fictional London Underground station, Vauxhall Cross, a supposedly closed stop on the Piccadilly Line now employed by MI6 as an extension to its HQ. In fact, the Piccadilly Line does not come south of the river at all; only the Victoria Line passes anywhere nearby, and the secret entrance to the station shown in the film is on the east side of Westminster Bridge some considerable distance down river.

The apartment was very close (50 mt) to underground station and near a convenient supermarket (Tesco expess). It was as described in web site, well furnished and clean.
The view from the apartment was simply spectacular.
The kitchen was well equipped and all appliances worked.
We visited London in a very comfortable way.

Fabulous. Rented this apartment for four nights with another 2 couples. Location was ideal, close to tube and within walking distance of london eye and other attractions.
The view in the evening down the Thames was spectacular.

We stayed in a 3-bedroom apartment. Although the first impression is good the apartment looses a lot of points in the details. Cleaning was less than average, Furniture was a little old and wore out at some point in the couch. The concierge was not very helpful, there was only one set of keys and it made it difficult to organize our exits, door bell was not working which made it difficult to get in without telephone calling e.t.c.

The apartment was incredible. Spacious and bright with fabulous views in an excellent location. Tube with easy connections to the rest of London a two minute walk from the apartment complex. Ferry terminal at your doorstep and within walking distance of Parliament, London Eye, Trafalgar Square. Restaurants, bars, and grocery stores all within easy walking disance. Also loved the fact that there was a Barclays Bike Stand adjacent to the complex. Bikes proved to be an incredibly cheap option for short trips around London.
Apartment was clean and well stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Great value and much more comfortable than the typical London hotel room.

Great place for families with kids/teens.
The apartment has a great location with the Vauxhall Tube Station across the street and many bus lines easy to catch at street level too, as well as the Thames Clipper dock on the river. The Tesco Express is handy for some quick groceries, Pret a Manger on the premises is great to drop in for coffee, sandwiches or a snack, and an aTM on the ground level is very convenient.
The apartment was larger than expected and we were in a unit that faced west, away from the bridge, which was lovely for watching the sun go down. We could see that this place could be quite hot in the summer with the western exposure but for our week in March it was pleasantly warm and we could open the windows to cool off in the evenings. We enjoyed be able to sit on the balcony in the evenings; the din of happy hour at the cafes on the ground floor dies off at dusk.
Although the meet-and-greet service was supposedly in place, we ended up needing to see the concierge for our keys. The kitchen was reasonably supplied, however napkins or paper towels would have been handy to have on hand. We seemed to be missing wash cloths with the towels, but made do. Highly recommend Lucky Fish down the street for takeout Chinese food - cash only. Living room furniture was a bit funky, but adequate.Response from Boutique London Lets - 04/14/2012

The Thames View 3 bed was fantastic and excellent; the view was amazing and fascinating! We were two families with children (they are 10 years old). The apartment was spacious, comfortable and clean with modern design. The location was good for access to central London. The Vauxhall tube station a few steps from the appartment. The Thames View 3 bed was fantastic, the views amazing, location could not be better. The Vauxhall tube station a few steps from the apt, just outside the complex. The apt was comfortable, modern, warm, clean, spacious. We were two families (8) with children and teenagers and we felt really good. The complex has a Pret a manger, restaurants, pubs and a Tesco Express (open 7am- 11pm, very convenient for us)and the Tate Britain just across the Vauxhall Bridge. We recommend BLL to our friends

i basically don't have much to comment, the apartment was well prepared, on a superb location, as described.
there though two small critics i would like to make:
- full payment 14 dads upon arrival, its quite early
- when we went to pick up the keys at concierge, the didn't know anything about us arriving, so there was waiting, and strange looks and finally calling you guys to get confirmed.

With payment at 14 days prior; we find that we have very little opportunity to re-book an apartment within 14 days, as a result we ask for a guest to confirm their booking with us at this point.
Regarding the key access: This is a secure concierge development. The concierge has a list of all of our guests to ensure top security, however, possibly this time they hadn't received our authorisation regarding your stay in time, as a result they needed to contact us for verification first. I apologise for this inconvenience.
However, we are very excited that soon (from March) we are launching our new 'meet and greet' service. All our guests will be personally met and shown around their apartment on arrival. we are very excited about this and believe this will make our guests' experience of London even more special - this is a complimentary service.

This apartment was amazing. The location is very central with the bus, tube and national rail less than 3 minutes away. The views are wonderful and it is delightful to wake up to them every day. The apartment is light and airy with all the facilities you could want or need. Having used a number of apartments for holidays, it is nice to see that London has got into this century!

We arrived late - after 10:30pm - on an early winters night in 2011. The views from main bedroom and lounge/family room were spectacular!! London by night was amazing and as our week went on, we never grew tired of watching it, day or night.
A modern, comfortable, well equipt and clean unit that was a dream to stay in.
The location for transport was sensational as well - with the Tube entrance literally at the buildings forecourt. Bus and Rail were across the road and the complex has its own ferry wharf. It could not have been better placed for a touring family of 5.
Considering where we were staying and the luxury fittings included in the price of our stay, I would gladly pay more to stay there again. I have not stopped raving about it since our return to australia a week ago.
I happily recommend this unit to anyone considering staying there.Top class and fairly priced. Hoping to return one day soon!!

We booked the apt through Boutique London Lets and everthing turned out to be just like the web-site promised. I can warmly recommend this apt to anyone. The apt was as beautiful as it seems to be in the pictures, and the location very convenient only steps from the Vauxhall station. We were a group of two families (parents and 4 teenagers) and the apt was spacious enough for 8 of us. We had two extra beds in the master bedroom (a bit crowded) but this way we had the living room 100 % for all of us.

Very good place to stay if you want to visit London. Big busstation around, underground nearby, you reach all interesting points within some minutes. The flat has wonderfull views over the Thames, everything you need is there, we felt really at home.

The flat was just as it was represented on-line. It's roomy, secure, clean, well appointed and nicely furnished. Proximity to various forms of transportation and dining options was a big plus. This flat worked well for my family of 4 during a 10 day visit during august 2011. The building is at the end of Vauxhall Bridge on the South bank of the Thames. The Vauxhall Tube station is directly outside the building. Tube service is limited to the Victoria line. Transfers to other lines are at Victoria, Green Park and Oxford Circus. The complex-St. George Wharf-has two OK restaurants, Riverside Pub and aqua Brasserie, a Pret a Manger, a pharmacy and a Tesco Express. There's a gritty commercial district on the other side of Vauxhall station with a few cheap eateries. London Eye is about 1 mile North. Tate Britain is over the bridge and North. The area seemed generally safe, but surly teens congregated outside the Tesco Express. The pictures of the flat are accurate. It is decent-sized, bright and airy, and it was clean. The 3 bedrooms all have queen beds that were comfortable, desk fans and limited closet space. The master bathroom has a small stall shower. There is a second bath with a full size tub and a hand shower that is mounted low on the wall. I would have put in a second mount at standard shower height. The kitchen has all the needed appliances, cookware, glasses, plates and a combo Washer/Dryer. The washing function worked fine, but we needed the provided drying racks. Broadband Internet was fast enough to use Internet calling. The TV has over-the-air channels only. Our teenagers had to make do with only 5 or 6 channels for the first time in their lives. During the day with the windows open, you get lots of traffic noise. Traffic seemed to die down at night, and it wasn't an issue for us. With highs in the low- to mid-70s, we needed the windows open to be comfortable since the flat does not have aC. I wouldn't worry about it most of the year. I booked through Bll's website and picked up the key from the main desk of the complex. We had no problems of any kind. I would rent from BLL again and wouldn't hesitate to rent this specific flat on a future trip.

We are 3 couples travelling from Canada to the Kensington area for a conference and for some sight seeing. Once we accepted that there are no inexpensive hotels in this area of London, we began searching for a flat to share. This flat may be perfect even if it is a bit more expensive.
The flat is 'a nice size' by North american standards, and huge by London standards. The living room seats 6 with floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony overlooking the Thames with a gorgeous view toward the city. The floors are a light wood laminate which makes the main living area seem even brighter and more modern. The kitchen is quite spacious and modern with granite counter tops, full-size refrigerator, 2 (yes 2) ovens, dishwasher,microwave, and a clever combination washer/dryer. All of the appliances are finished with the same light colored wood fronts as the cupboards, continuing the bright modern theme.
One of the bedrooms is quite large with a 'not large' ensuite bathroom which has a toilet, sink and shower (no bathtub). The other 2 bedrooms share a larger bathroom with tiolet, sink and bathtub/shower. The bathrooms have electric towel heaters, as a nice extra touch.
The second bedroom is also quite large. The third bedroom is somewhat smaller. All 3 of the bedrooms have queen sized beds and the linens and towels are excellent quality and luxurious.
The flat is in the eastern tower of a complex of 4 towers. The entrance to the Vauxhall Tube Station is literally 10 steps from the eastern tower (Bridge House). It is incredibly convenient especially for travelling to central London. Vauxhall Station is also a Rail Station, so travelling to places outside of London (Windsor Castle, Hampton Court, ..) is also very convenient.
The complex has a Tesco Express (think 7-11 on steroids), a Pret-A-Manger (for light breakfast/lunch), a restaurant and a pub.
Our only complaint is that we may never by satisfied with any other accommodation in London!!Response from Boutique London Lets - 06/13/2011
