Description from the manager

This detached stone barn conversion offers welcoming accommodation for up to four people. This detached stone built barn has been renovated to a very high standard and is close to the lovely village of Longnor. The kitchen is contemporary and well equipped with plenty of modern appliances and there is a useful utility room. The open plan dining room and lounge has a cosy feel thanks to the wood burner, giving the room a special ambience. There are two generous bedrooms and a ground floor bathroom, and outside there is a large enclosed garden with seating. A convenience shop and local pub are just a very short walk away. With its clever blend...Read more

      Wanted for nothing!

Left on 05/22/2013 for a stay in March 2013

The facilities of this barn were absolutely excellent with many extra touches provided by the owners. The fixtures and fittings were of the highest quality, it was spotlesly clean, and we had everything we could possibly need and more besides - comfortable beds and sofas, well equipped and spacious kitchen, outdoor space. The barn is in an excellent location with a short walk to the nice village centre for pub food (Old Cheshire Cheese pub), fish & chip shop (although not tried!), craft centre & cafe, newsagents/general store. Another nearby good pub/restaurant was The Royal Oak at Hurdlow. We were baffled with the underfloor/central heating controls, although this wasn't a problem.
We wisely decided, but reluctantly, to return home one day early because of a severe weather warning, but were unable to inform the owners as there was no mobile phone signal! Highly recommended place to stay.

Very well equiped cottage, shame about the view

Left on 04/27/2013 for a stay in April 2013

My wife and I have just returned from a week at Goulds Barn which we found to be very well equiped, clean and comfortable, and on this basis we would reccomend it too others. There is however a definite downside and this is the garden, more appropriately described as a work in progress or more bluntly a building site! The area which presumeably was the garden is now a construction site for a garage/store. As such it contains a partially complete building, piles of stone, building blocks, sand, cement and other construction materials and debris. The works are ongoing and guests at the property can expect an early morning awakening when the builder arrives and when materials are delivered, together with ongoing construction dust and noise throughout the day. The building site is the main view from the windows on the side of the barn shown in publicity photographs.
We would have expected to have been informed about building operations in advance of our booking and stay but this was not the case. It all goes to prove that you don't have to go to foreign destinations to end up in a works area!
We would suggest that before booking potential visitors should check the situation and decide for themselves if they want to continue with the booking, because if you don't then no-one else will.
It is also worth pointing out that the much publicised wood burning stove is rarely in use according to vidsitors book comments, it certainly wasn't working or available for such when we were there.
We were very dissapointed with our visit and it is a pity that such good accommodation is let down as described.

Left on 03/24/2013 for a stay in January 2013

A lovely cottage, beautifully finished to a high and modern standard.
It snowed all week so the cottage proved a lovely warm place to return.
Longnor is an excellent little village and we would not think twice about returning to both the village and the cottage.

Left on 11/01/2012 for a stay in August 2012

This was a lovely cottage owners were very welcoming but left us alone to do as you liked. Local Pubs/restaraunts very good and fairly priced.
A novelty to see the cows coming and going for milking
though far enough away that they did not disturb us.
Good base for sight seeing & walking amazing views from all windows very cosy and well equipped will definitely book again and can recommend if a quiet and relaxing holiday is what you need.

      Our Second visit

Left on 09/14/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Another visit to this Great place. The barn is a real home from home and we enjoyed our weeks stay. It's relaxing, stress free and peaceful. The owners are welcoming and helpful and always willing to advise or recomend. The village has everything including two very good pubs, a chip shop and village stores for all you daily needs. The trouble with this place is its so nice you want to tell people about it, but you don't want it to be unavailable for your next stay!

Left on 06/06/2012 for a stay in March 2012

The accommodation was lovely with all mod cons and very close to the village centre. There are so many local walks and regular buses to ashbourne and Buxton so we were able to leave the car until our journey home.

      Lovely relaxing cottage

Left on 04/17/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Accomodation was excellent and well presented. Welcome bottle of wine and milk was a nice gesture. The only thing which could have improved our stay as we were there during heavy snowfall would have been able to use the wood burning stove which was advertised but not in use.

Great location on outskirts of the small village of Longnor. The house was impeccably presented and very well equipped. Comfortable beds, large lounge area and very good kitchen. Owner was very helpful but not intrusive.
Some good walking around (as long as the rains hold off).
Excellent also for touring to other Peak towns.

Left on 12/01/2011 for a stay in October 2011

Combined our fortnight's holiday with our son's wedding in the middle weekend and it was great to go back to Gould's Barn for a relaxing week after the event. Excellent cottage with all facilities needed to make for a very comfortable stay. The owners very friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. Everything was very clean and all furniture and fittings of a very high standard. The weather was really hot (hottest October on record) and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the views and really chill out. Would definitely recommend the cottage and hope to visit again.

Property could not be faulted, High end conversion, under floor heating very cosy, high spec kitchen & bathroom. All equipment and fittings as new in all rooms.
Longnor nice quiet country village, visted the nearest pub which provided a good pub meal, with entertainment by the host who happend to be a magician!
My wife and I were having a long weekend in the area as our daughter was attending a 'hen' weekend in the Dales, so this was our reason for being in the area and where we stayed. As it turned out it was a very pleasant place to be as we love walking and birdwatching.
We will certainly come back again to the area and the accomodation.
