This charming custom-built log home on five acres on Lopez Island, just a ten minute walk from Spencer Spit State Park, offers its visitors a little piece of Pacific Northwest paradise with its pastoral landscapes, lush gardens, and serene water views from cozy spaces within its spacious layout. You'll enjoy the peace and privacy of its secluded location, while within close reach of the abundant outdoor recreation and charming ommunities of the San Juan Islands.
The nostalgic home is reminiscent of a simpler time - from its homespun rustic decor and wooden log beams to the wraparound deck with a porch swing and rocking chairs. Slow down... to soak up warm breezes and good conversation, while lush valley vistas and glimpses of ferries gliding on the sparkling waters beyond delight your view. Inside, the vaulted ceilings and bountiful windows create a light and airy atmosphere and invite you to relax and stay for a while.
But this is more than just your basic "cabin in the woods". You'll have plenty of convenient extras to make your vacation flow effortlessly. On those rainier days, snuggle up by the rustic woodstove with a blanket and a loved one to watch an island storm brewing from the comfort of the leather couches or one of the rocking chairs. Or, get cozy in the window nook in the living room while you catch up on the novel you've been wanting to finish. You'll have a TV with a DVD player and VCR for movie night, and out back you'll find horseshoes and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows when warm weather lures you outdoors. There are also two mountain bikes available for your use.
A full kitchen opens to the living and dining space on the main floor, and is stocked with all the gear you'll need to make a home-cooked meal with the goodies you purchased from the Farmer's Market in the village. There's also a gas grill on the deck to make it a BBQ night if you choose, and a little wine bar for an at-home happy hour. Serve up breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the dining table set for six, or dine al fresco out on the deck! In keeping with the rustic nature of the home, there is no dishwasher provided, but the kitchen is roomy enough to make tag-teaming the dishes a breeze!
Three bedrooms and a loft comfortably accommodate up to eight travelers. Two bedrooms are up on the main floor, along with a full bathroom, while the master is tucked up away upstairs and includes an en suite bath. Quilted blankets atop queen beds in each of the three bedrooms will embrace you with warmth and comfort, while a full-sized futon in the upstairs loft is a great place for the youngest guest, or for lounging and naps.
Known as the friendliest of the San Juan Islands, Lopez Island is the first stop off the ferry from Anacortes and the perfect home base for explorers of all types to get a taste of the island experience and plan their next adventure. Just three miles west of the home in Lopez Village, you'll find a handful of restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries, shops, and a fully stocked grocery store to stock the home with all the fixings for your trip. A little farther south is Fisherman Bay with even more dining options, a marina, bike and kayak rentals, and plenty of perfect picnic spots to watch the sun set at the end of the day.
Just four miles from the ferry landing and less than a ten minute walk from the home is stunning Spencer Spit State Park, where boaters, bikers, and hikers can set up camp and tour the driftwood-lined beaches and frolic in the blue waters of Swifts Bay and the Lopez Sound.
Spencer Spit is also a part of the Cascadia Marine Trail, a network of 50 campsites stretching from Olympia to Canada and accessible only by foot, bike, or wind-powered transportation - an ideal way for non-motorized boaters and travelers to peacefully enjoy and explore the Pacific Northwest wilderness and the 1800 miles of the pristine shoreline of the Puget Sound.
