    The best retreat

Left on 11/17/2011 for a stay in April 2011

Quiet, comfortable and with an excellent open fire that made for great evenings in, I couldn't have asked for more from Toby's place.

When I wasn't spending my days writing, the local area provided excellent opportunities for running, swimming, exploring and all manner of beautiful things.

Just a short drive away are vineyards and surrounding towns that provide distractions should you need them but my favourite part of my stay was at the house, relaxing in the huge garden.

    Gorgeous, cozy, rustic, sprawling

Left on 11/09/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Cozy, rustic, beautiful old stone farmhouse in a gorgeous setting, with gorgeous views of surrounding hills. This place is really special!

I spent a week there in July with 6 friends (7 people total, all adults) - a big group but we fit perfectly into this sprawling, airy house - each couple had their own bedroom plus a single in the loft/bunk area. The kitchen, living room and outdoor areas were each large enough to fit us all at once quite comfortably.

The house is full of rustic old farmhouse character. It gets tons of sunshine, especially in the mornings. The garden is very peaceful, with the sound of crickets and honeybees surrounding you - hardly a car in sight as the road it's on is very quiet. The kitchen was very well-equipped - we were cooking gourmet meals for 7 people every night and it worked great, plus we could all sit around the large kitchen table with no problems. I also enjoyed the romantic old claw-foot bathtub, situated in a small room that was once a bread oven. We also had fires in the old stone fireplace - fantastic!

The house worked great for a big group, but would work just as well for a cozy romantic getaway. The master bedroom was luxurious, well-appointed and spacious. Everything had that touch of luxury, in addition to loads of rustic charm.

We hope to return next year! What a keeper.

Rustic enjoyment in an untouristy part of France

Left on 11/09/2011 for a stay in August 2010

We loved cycling into Lormes to the patîsseries and cycling over to swim and kayak in the town's little lake; there are so many beautiful places nearby, unfrequented by tourists, such as a clear reservoir and tree-lined valley. The view at sunset from the hilltop behind the house is glorious. You can tell the owners use the place because it hasn't got bare kitchen cupboards; you can cook delicious meals with the doors open onto the warm evening air. We felt at home here.

    Perfection in Lush Countryside

Left on 11/09/2011 for a stay in July 2010

My husband, children (two teen-aged) and I all recall our time in Lormes with a deep, dreamy, satisfied sigh: Charming, ultra-comfy house; lovely garden for dining that sweeps up to the 'la Justice' vantage point for stunning views (beautiful for a glass of wine -- or leaping from hay bales -- at sunset); secluded country setting with just-near-enough village for to-die-for pastries, sausage, cheese, honey, wine and more (older children can cycle there for safe adventures); pristine lakes for swimmers; empty winding roads for cyclists; gentle hills and stunning views for hikers; beguiling historic towns, restaurants, and winersies within easy reach. It's no wonder we all dream of returning one day to gorgeous Burgundy and this peaceful refuge.

    A Taste of Heaven

Left on 11/07/2011 for a stay in April 2009

The house is welcoming and cosy, the view out onto the valley is beautiful, the countryside around is gorgeous, and the food in the region is extraordinary. What more can one say? It was a wonderful holiday, with plenty of safety and freedom for the children to run around, playing and exploring.
