5 Charming apts in traditional farmhouse and mill
Loro Ciuffenna, Tuscany, Italy
Additional Location Information
A very quiet location, in the heart of Tuscany 30 miles from Firenze and Siena and 20 from Arezzo.
Loro Ciuffenna is the closest village.
This is a lovely medieval village with an amazing view on the river Ciuffenna. Here you will not find souvenirs for tourists but traditional family run shops, a colourful weekly market, traditional Italian coffee shops, ice-cream shops and a selection of very good restaurants .
Definitely a little town where you can breath an old times Tuscan atmosphere.Loro Ciuffenna could be a great starting point for a variety of excursions and activities such as :
• Sightseeing on Pratomagno mountains
Driving for 15-25 minutes you can reach unique hidden villages on the slopes of Pratomagno mountains.
All of them have a spectacular view on the ArnoValley( Rocca Ricciarda and La Trappola are at950 m. above the sea level) Centuries of history, beautiful forests, old mills, silence and…. good food!
In Chiassaia, an old village of 50 permanent inhabitants, Varis, the baker, makes a local flat bread called “schiacciata” with no chemicals ingredients baked in a wood oven.
There you can enjoy a very good brunch with salty and sweet delicacies feeling you jumped back in time of at least 50 years…
In Casamona, you can visit a family run cheese farm: you can make a beautiful walk ( or drive silently with an electric little car) through the pasture land “meeting” cows rough grazing; then you can see how cheese is produced from the milking to the seasoning:the old cellar where they keep the cheese is worth a visit by itself.
In Gorgiti, known for its delicious chestnut flour, you can learn the history of chestnut by the words of local inhabitants and visit a special building called “seccatoio”.
• Sightseeing all along the Chianti hills and the Arno Valley
Molino delle Gualchiere is located along one of the Wine Roads of Tuscany, an ancient Etruscan road that was connectingFiesoletoArezzocalled “Strada dei Setteponti”; all along this panoramic country road there are farms producing very good wines ( some of them recommended by Wine Spectator ) and wine tasting tours there are interesting and amusing.
Most of the farms are situated next to medieval hamlets worth visiting,
like Il Borro, property of Ferragamo’s family and beautiful Gropina with its
Romanesque Parish church declared world heritage site.
The Chianti Classico, with its widely known wine producers, can also be an alternative wine tasting destination. In this area it is very easy to combine the wine tour with a visit to historical castles and villas. To quote few names: Meleto Castle, a medieval castle perfectly preserved, Brolio Castle with its gardens, from where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful sight over a traditional Tuscan landscape, Badia a Coltibuono a fascinating ancient Abbey, Volpaia nested on top of a hill.
Pls. take note that all sites listed above are easily reachable from Molino Gualchiere in 15/ 40 minutes driving.

What Past Guests Are Saying
family from Finland
perfect for family get together
We really enjoyed our week at Molino Le Gualchiere in september 2013.
The whole molino was in use for our big family; grandparents and 4 families with 6 grandchildren.
The children just loved the space to run and play and of course swimming. We all loved the evening meals together on the Padronale terrace.
Everyone is looking forward to visiting Molino again.
And thank you for the lovely hosts.

Thank you for your kind words.
We do our best to make our guests happy and their satisfaction is our pride.
Tuscany at her best!
A very nice and quiet complex of buildings with ruïns of an ancient Mill. Not very modern in furniture, but with good beds. It has a large garden and a great pool. We stayed in 'la Casetta' in 2013. The owner, mr Boyer is a great host and the attendant Daniele Lapi was so friendly and care taking! Tuscany at her best, beautiful area at the via sette ponti. (Great winery's) These surroundings (Balze) is what Leonardo da Vinci used as background for the Mona Lisa. Also not to far away from Florence, Sienna and arrezzo. By train even Rome is possible! Nearby is Loro Ciuffenna, with very good restaurants and a great pizzeria at the right when you enter the village.

Storybook Farmhouse and old Mill captures the charm and warmth o
After our wedding in Florence, we loved our stay at this farmhouse in the Chianti region near Loro Ciufenna. We loved it so much that next year we will rent every apartment, bringing friends. Four of us stayed for a week in the Padronale (3BR 3 bath) --it was absolutely charming, very spacious, with old world authenticity, and a crackling fireplace. It has a beautiful view of the countryside and olive orchard from a huge balcony, and plenty of kitchen space and amenities to make gourmet meals on days we did not eat out. It was a pleasure to book through Roberto Boyer and to have his helpful daughter Valentina for wedding resources. We were greeted by Daniel, who is as charming as the property. We explored the town of Loro Ciufenna, the market on Monday, and bought lamb from the butcher Chi Chi. We walked up to the nearby town of Gropina, picking wild herbs along the way (mint, oregano, basil, time, and rosemary) and watched as a local wedding party spilled out of the famous church atop the hill. We hired the vivacious Mauricio Bellini for a wine tour of 2 lovely vineyards: Montalgiari (Greve in Chianti) and Pesanella (Radda in Chianti). It was fabulous. Back at the ranch, we enjoyed the pool and grounds, with the babbling brook and the walk to the dam. We picked figs for our fig sauce, almonds, and basil, and apples, all on property. We enjoyed meeting the neighbors at the end of the lane. This place is an hour from Florence by car, and is centrally located to so many activities and day trips, but its hard to leave because its so beautiful and relaxing. A favorite moment of mine was meeting Claudio, one of the downs syndrome children that this non-profit assists with proceeds from our stay. Thank you Daniel for being such a gracious host.

Thank you ; we do our best to share with our guests the " spirit " of our initiative and this kind of review encourage all of us to continue our activity.
A wonderful place. Go. Now.
We have just had the loveliest week ever, with our two year old boy running around happily. A lovely quiet farm in a valley, surrounded by olive trees and vineyards. A beautiful house with comfy flats and a great garden. In September you can actually pick your own grapes and figs in the garden, and cut your chives. A swimming pool with a nice shelter, ping pong, a hammock, two friendly red cats keeping watch in the garden. A wonderful team of housekeepers, and all the profit going to help a charity working with the disabled. In Tuscany. With great foodstuff and nice wine nearby. I mean, what more can any one wish for? Go there. Now.

A great, relaxing stay in peaceful surroundings
Daniele was kind enough to meet us in the local town as we arrived by car at around 11pm. This was a great help, as we realised, we would never have found Molino in the dark, without him as our guide!
We were the only guests for the whole of our 6 night break, which made it a very peaceful stay. However, the boys and staff from the local organisation still came to clean the pool daily and to work on the farm. It was lovely to meet them all. Roberto and his team are doing a great job with the boys and the new colaboration.
This is fabulous, rustic accomodation and a visit to the local town (perhaps a little too far to walk back in the dark)makes you feel like a local for a short time.

Absolutely exceeded all expectations!!
Molina was the perfect Tuscan experience. There were four of us and we didn't want to leave. The property is rustic, organic, charming, authentic, relaxing, peaceful and not just a place to stay but one of the parts of the exploring Tuscany.
Although the property is rustic, it has all the modern comforts you will need. The pool area is especially refreshing anytime of the day.
The small town close by lacks tourist but gives you a traditional small tuscan town experience. Molina is an idea location to explore all of Tuscany from Siena to Florence to Montepulciano.
Roberto was an mazing host and was easily accessible when even needed but gives you the privacy you want to feel like you are the owner.
If you want a truly unique Tuscan experience, look know further. I know we will return.
Amazing Vacation Spot
Hacienda Heights, California
We visited Il Molino Gualchiere in September 2011. The 6 of us stayed in the charming main house. It was a mixture of ancient and modern with jacuzzi tub, dishwasher vs. stone sink and huge hearth. We used it as a base to travel throughout Tuscany. The location made it convenient to go to the Cinquaterra for 2 days and overnight to Milan for the opera! Roberto & Laura were wonderful hosts and the fact that they speak perfect English didn't hurt. Roberto brought us grapes and figs grown on the property and access to the wine cellar! We made amazing meals in the country kitchen with meat, cheese and produce we bought in Loro Cuiffena and Chianti. He even made a phone call for us to 4th cousins I recently discovered and arrange a meeting in Milan.

Under the Tuscan Sun
We visited in September 2011 and stayed in the main Mill house. The vines were heavy with gorgeous ripe grapes, the sparkling pool beckoned and I felt like I'd walked into the movie "Under The Tuscan Sun." The rustic house was inviting, and Roberto and Laura are the most wonderful host and hostess anyone could ask for. We attended a chaming local event in Loro Cuiffena our first night, and enjoyed grilled meats and local wine with the town soccer team and it's fans! It was a great way to dive into the experience. We also loved exploring the back roads of Tuscany, and a local wine tasting event we stumbled across on our Pilgrimage to visit famous butcher Dario Cuccini's shop and restaurant. We highly recommend the Pilgrimage! I have nothing but praise for this lovely rustic property and it's charming Innkeepers.

Above and Beyond
Our stay at Molino le Gualchiere was above and beyond expected! After visiting Rome, Naples and Capri, this country home experience felt like the essence of Italian living. A relaxed environment with comfortable and authentic furnishings and lovely gardens made us feel as if we were at our very own Italian vacation home. This historical Tuscan property is safe enough for all children and casually elegant enough for a discriminating group of well traveled adults. Looking forward to visiting Molino again.

Our two teenagers enjoyed this beautifully restful Mill, also!
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mill. It's within walking distance of the pretty hillside village, Loro Ciuffenna. There's a very countrified, restful atmosphere where you can relax by the pool or play table-tennis, badminton or use the gym. Plenty of room to run or walk around in. Room to park. Shops in Loro, large supermarkets within 15Km. Plenty of scenic trips to be made close by. The owners are super, accommodating people.

Tuscany Italian Style
Our first stay at the lovely Molino le Gualchiere was 15
years ago. We have been three times now and it feels like coming home each time we return.
The wonderful owners, Roberto and Laura Boyer will instantly feel like friends who cannot do enough for you...
the help and service they provide is fabulous.
The apartments are attractive, country Tuscan and extremely comfortable. The environment is easy, relaxing and beautiful beyond description. Add the fabulous
restaurants, great wine, the charming ( tour bus free ) medieval village of Loro Ciuffenna and you will have a Tuscan experience most people miss.
Ft. Lauderdale, FL - USA
From the rooms accommodation to the location and services I can just say that everything was perfect.
Everybody went above and beyond on what we aspected.
The location is next to a marvellous river with beautiful soft hills around it. It's an experience to be repeted and I'll highly raccommanded.
Laguna Beach, California
I am an artist from California who brought a group of 10 people to stay at this property for a two week painting workshop in October of 2005. Roberto and Laura Boyer were excellent hosts, their organization for my group was perfection. The location is ideal for artists or photographers, as the scenery is quintessential Tuscany. Loro Ciuffenna is a charming village nearby and within 20 min walking distance, train stations 15 minutes drive away in Montevarchi. The rooms and apartments are tidy, comfortable and pleasantly decorated. The grounds and gardens beautifully maintained.
The chef they hired for the two weeks made delicious and creative Tuscan meals... and was flexible for the needs of my clients. We were all very much inspired by our time spent there.
I highly recommend this estate as a rental for groups or workshops, extended families and weddings.
Ps: my Mother and Father stayed in Casetta for a week in 2007 and loved it!
New York City
We had a great time!
I used to live in this area and have known this "agriturismo" and its owners since its inception in the 1980s. When I decided to visit old friends in the area, this was my first choice of a place to stay, and it did not disappoint. The setting is gorgeous, the residences comfortable, the owners and staff welcoming, and the position convenient for visits to all of east-central Tuscany, Umbria, and beyond. Also, there are excellent restaurants, gelaterias, etc., within a 10-minute drive of the place.
The perfect place to stay in Tuscany
The date I gave for my visit was just the last time - I have been returning once, often twice, every year to Molino le Gualchiere for the last 22 years, sometimes alone, sometimes with friends, which speaks for itself. The location is superb - equi-distant from Florence, Siena and arezzo - and the place itself is utterly beautiful, with vineyards, olives, a river at the end of the property, and complete tranquillity in its setting, as it is at the end of a small side road with no traffic. An early morning swim in the pool is one of the joys of life! The family who run the Molino are charming and friendly, speak perfect English, and maintain the apartments at an impeccable standard of comfort and cleanliness. I cannot recommend this beautiful place highly enough and I know that many visitors return again and again, as I do. You receive a warm and friendly welcome each time and no effort is spared to make your visit a memorable one. There are self-catering facilities in each apartment but the nearby small town of Loro Ciuffenna has excellent restaurants and coffee bars.
