Additional Location Information
IN BALI’S BEAUTIFUL NORTH
VILLA LOTUS LOVINA is a 150 minute drive north of
Denpasar.
A private car will transport you from the busy streets of the south to the peace and tranquillity of lovely Lovina in North Bali.
We can organise a range of activities to fill your stay if you wish: Snorkling and Diving on some of the best coral in the world at Menjangan Island. Swimming with the Dolphins at calm Lovina beach. Visit local Hot Springs, Waterfalls and rainforests.
The Lovina area
Lovina Beach is a 12 km stretch of coast to the North West of Singaraja in North Bali. It is several resorts rather than one. It is comprised of several narrow stretches of black volcanic sand. Lovina, like most of Bali, fills up with tourists from all over the world in August and Australians at Chrismas. Lovina is a nice break from the bustle of the South. These days the mix of tourists is mainly families and couples rather than the backpackers of yesteryear.
Kalibukbuk is the largest and most developed village but it is just two streets of hotels, bars, restaurants, and dive shops running down to the beach. There is a wide range of accommodation and restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes. There are two clubs and several bars, but the nightlife is generally low key and easy giong.
You can easily get to Lovina by bus from all parts of Bali, but it is a long ride from the East or South. Getting your own car with or without a driver ( I don't recommend without!!) is a much easier way to get to the North. Bemo’s are the local public transport buses and they ply all the local routes. Again it is much easier to hire a driver and car for any longer journey. You can travel from Kuta in less than 3hrs and from the airport or Sanur in about 2.30hrs. You will travel through (Pura Ulun Danau) Bedugul and could go the pretty way through Munduk if you are not in a hurry. So you could stop to take in the temple, lakes and rice paddies on your trip and make a day of it.
Sightseeing trips are easy to organise either with drivers on the street or through your hotel. Some sugestions are:
Air Banjar Hot Springs - Located west of Lovina, Air Banjar (or Panjar) is an enchanting hot springs with stone carved mouths gushing water among a lush garden setting. A nominal entrance fee is charged. Go in the morning if you want some peace and quiet, you will have the place to yourself if you get there before 9am.
DolphinTrips - These trips leave early each morning and are great fun for the kids, despite the critiscism that the boats tend to outnumber the dolphins. Prices are fixed by a dolphin cartel, they are around 50,000 (4 euro).
Snorkeling is possible on the reef just offshore from Kalibukbuk in the mornings around 10am. You will need to hire a boat for this and it costs about 50,000 per head (includes gear, although your own will be a better fit). Snorkeling and scuba diving trips leave from Kalibukbuk for Menjangan and other north shore dive spots. There are several dive operators based out of Lovina that operate daily dive trips to Menjangan Island, Tulamben and Amed, as well as night dives from the local shore. "Spice Dive" are based out of Lovina and offer day trips to all of the dive spots on the northern shore. Guides are available in a variety of languages and multi-day discounts are available. "http://www.lovinadive.com/" price=US$55-$75 per day.
Spa - Lovina is lucky to have several spa facilities. While a little more low key than the spas to the south, the service is excellent and the prices, being much less than the opulent spas in the south, are an excellent value and well worth it.

Perth, WABeautiful Villa in Bali like it used to be
Left on 11/28/2012 for a stay in October 2012
I travelled to Villa Lotus with a group of friends. We were picked up at the airport as arranged through the owner. We had two cars to fit us and luggage in. The drivers were good. Were happy to stop on way for us to have breakfast and use atms.
Interesting drive up to Lovina Beach. Lots of new sights to see through the mountains.
The villa is a great size - perfect for a group of friends. Each had our own bedroom with ensuite.
As they are outside bathrooms you do get the odd leaf or dust drift in but this is part of the charm.
Villa and swimming pool were clean the whole time we were there.
The staff were very unobtrusive - they did their job and then left us to ourselves as we like.
Walking down to the village was wonderful. All the locals stop to say a genuine hello - not to sell us something.
Shops and restaurants in Lovina were good. Some of the restaurants provide transport to pick up and return to accommodation which was great.
Yes,if you want to do lots of shopping and go to clubs and bars this isn't for you.
But if you want a relaxing holiday away from the chaos of Kuta or Legian this is ideal.
I will definately be returning. -

Perthpeaceful, unassuming luxury
Left on 11/27/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We loved our time at Villa Lotus. I stayed with my family/extended family and enjoyed the quiet for bonding time. The villa had all the mod cons, wifi, sattelite tv channels, a great kitchen and small staff who will cook local cuisine at home for you, we enjoyed massages (again by the maid) and the staff won't linger or make you feel uncomfortable, everything is done seamlessly.
The rooms and private bathrooms - some with gorgeous big tubs - are clean, airy, bright and comfortable - they are unassumingly luxurious. Days spent cooling off in the infinity pool over ocean views and reading novel after novel in the gazebo with the day beds is sooo relaxing! The tropical gardens are fully established and beautifully maintained by staff.
Lovina is a world away from too-busy Kuta and has a tropical village feel that you just can't get in Kuta or even Seminyak these days. Close to some great and decently priced restaurants down at Lovina beach front - our faves were cheap as chips 'Warung asia' and cute Thai joint 'Jasmine Kitchen' - and the Balinese natural hot springs in a nearby mountain valley are also a good day trip. You can walk down to the beach front from the Villa if your fit but I reccommend hiring a scooter for ease and fun! An hour away is old capital Singaraja which is also good for a day trip if you miss the hawkers and shopping.
Lotus Lovina was such a relaxing and positive experience, watching Bali Dvd's in the evening, having fresh watermelon juices and full breakfast made for us by the maid every morning, dips in the infinity pool, scrabble games after lunch and afternoon siestas on the day bed...if you want calm relaxation in beautiful surroundings, comfortable accomodation and professional service at an affordable price then this is a great choice. -

PerthPerfect Getaway with Friends
Left on 11/27/2012 for a stay in November 2012
My boyfriend and I stayed for 6 nights with 3 other couples. We are all in our mid 20's, for some it was first time in Bali, others including myself have been before and every single one of us enjoyed our stay at Vill Lovona Lotus thoroughly.
The staff were very attentive and friendly. Breakfast cooked every morning in our own kitchen. We even had a lovely Indonesian lunch cooked up one day which was sooo fresh and tasty. All we had to do was pay for the ingredients and sit back and watch.
Basically it was a really great place to go and relax with friends, have a daily massage, swim in the beautiful infinity pool, drink bintang and eat delicious food around the Lovina area. Will recommend to friends and family and will definitely be back!

Perth, AustraliaFantastic relaxing villa in beautiful Lovina! clean, modern and
Left on 11/26/2012 for a stay in November 2012
For my partner and I Lovina offered an escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy Kutas and Seminyaks full of tourists and pollution. This was our second stay at Villa Lotus Lovina. in the two years since we've been the conditions of the villa have been maintained to the highest of quality.
Firstly our drive up to Villa Lotus Lovina was easy with direct transfer from our seminyak hotel. the drive up was interesting and enabled us to take in many sights. Once at our destination we were greeted by friendly staff who made our time in Lovina all the more enjoyable. The views the villa has being perched in the side of a hill looking across the ocean was absolutely astounding and worth the price in itself. The villa was extremely clean and the bedding was perhaps the best I've ever experienced, especially for Bali! The bathrooms were open spacious and clean and had beautiful little gardens keeping with the relaxing tranquil theme of the villa. The infinity pool was clean and cool and we enjoyed many a gin and tonics while watching the sunset whilst in the pool.
We had breakfast cooked for us each morning which was fantastic despite the villa being fully self contained. the fruit juices especially the strawberry juice is delicious!
If we weren't lazing around the pool reading or swimming we were off exploring the sights. Very close by are the hot springs also nearby is a large buddhist monastery and temple worth seeing. We also spent one day snorkelling also well worth the money also. At night a driver was organised to transport us from the villa down to the town centre about a 5min drive/20min walk to which were able to eat at a small but nice collection of restaurants.
All in all our stay at Villa Lotus Lovina was a fantastic one and it made all our experiences of this quiet but intriguing part of Bali all the more memorable. The prices were affordable even quite cheap for the level of service and comfort we were given.
Will definitely be going back again! -

We will definitely be back, sooner rather than later. The whole experience from start to finish was great, yes there were things that could have been improved (like no bugs, as one of our party wanted but this is can not be controlled by the owner, its nature at its best). From making the first inquiry to finally booking we could not have had a better experience from Trevor and his manager. Thanks to you both. The directions (as we drove ourselves) were perfect. As we live in Indonesia we understand the in's and out's of household staff and yours are great. One night we had to tell your staff to go home as she was still there sorting out dishes from dinner (which she cooked for us). Knowing Indonesia and Bali as well as I do this is definitely worth considering if you want to have a stay that takes you back to what Bali use to be. Walk up the road, talk to the locals, eat great food, buy fish off the local fishing men and then just sit back and bask in the sun.

FranceUtter disappointment
Left on 09/09/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Terrible in every possible way.
We were a family of 4 travelling with an 3 y-o & a 3 month-old (approx 20 hours between time spent at airports and on flights). Despite confirming months in advance the airport pick up we were sent a driver who had no idea where the villa was located. Following 3 hours drive from the airport to Lovina to reach at midnight we spent a further 3 hours until 3 am searching for the villa following several unsuccessful attempts to contact the owner and property manager.
In spite of the terrible first impression which would have left most travelers livid we were very gracious and understanding and did not make any scene.
At the time of booking we were told the maid was available to us from 8 am to 6 pm...most days we did not see her for more than 2 hours which included the time when she cooked the meals for which we paid separately USD 10 per meal.
The day following our arrival and after speaking to the owner the manager finally graced us with her presence with the most insincere apology we have ever heard backed by a USD 10 meal! We were charged an arm and a leg for our stay so clearly better service moving forward would have been the way to go.
The toilets, sinks, and bath tubs were never cleaned before or during our stay. The only thing the maid did was to make the bed, sweep and mop the floor in the one room we used.
My husband had to manage the cleaning of the swimming pool every single day throughout our 8 day-stay.
We were resigned to having a terrible stay and simply could not believe that the manager would try to rob us blind on top of everything else!
Despite confirming earlier that USD 50 was to be paid to the driver the manager still added it onto the final bill! No meal price was deducted & we were charged obscene amounts for laundry which were neither cleaned nor ironed. When we first tried to clarify the manager was MIa!
We were charged USD 25 for a broken lamp shade which we found out cost no more than USD 3 or 4.Response from Trevor Muir - 10/02/2012

Thank you Mariam from France, I was very disappointed by your damming review. Yes there was a problem with the transfer from the airport on this one and only occasion. The transport contractor we have used successfully for the past 2 years let us down by sending a new driver who didn’t know the final location of the villa and unfortunately he was also dishonest and accepted payment from the guests (despite them being advised NOT to do this) and took the usual payment from my manager. The only person out of pocket here was me….the owner. This transport operator will no longer be used by us.
I do not think we can be held accountable for the 20 hour flying time with 2 young children and your choice to arrive at Bali’s airport at midnight knowing full well that there was a 3 hour drive to Lovina after arrival and the erratic telecommunications industry in Indonesia is an expected inconvenience to experienced travellers.
Maid service in our villa, as any holiday accommodation, is not a maid in some historical sence to be ordered around and to be at a guests beck and call. Our hard working girl cooks breakfasts , cleans, makes up beds and does the laundry every single day. As most guests request as much privacy as possible our staff have been trained to be as invisible as possible and to do their work behind the scenes, ie stay in the laundry and do pool cleaning before guests awake.
Also if the guest can get the stone lamp shades that they broke for $3.00 then please tell me where. I will take 100 of them. It cost me $20 and I told my manager to add a very modest $5 for delivery and installation.
I am very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your travels but know that we have had many satisfied guests in our very moderately priced, well appointed and honestly staffed vila. Thank you anyway for your business and comments. -

The service was hospitable. The house was very clean with comfortable open spaces. The high thatched cieling gave the house a specail appeal. The pool provided added entertainment for the younger members of our group.
Great to be out of the hustle and bustle of the main town. -

Perth WAGreat Villla - Relaxing Bali
Left on 05/27/2012 for a stay in April 2012
This beautiful villa is located in an area that is Bali as it used to be.
The villa has four spacious bedrooms each with their own ensuite.
Beautiful decor and a well equipped kitchen area.
The layout of this villa is perfect - the lounge / dining rooms and each bedroom opens onto the verandah which looks over the pool and in the distance the ocean.
Lots of trees around - the sound of birdlife is a wonderful change from the traffic and construction noises of the main tourist areas of Bali (Legian, etc).
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
We walked down the hill into Lovina village - all the locals we met on the way were smiling and friendly. When they said hello, they weren't then asking you to come into their shop or if we wanted transport.
The village of Lovina has shops and restaurants just like the bigger tourist areas (try Tropis Bistro and Bar). And easy to get transport back up to the villa when we had had enough walking.
I cannot recommend this villa highly enough - I will definately be back.
