What Past Guests Are Saying
A must stay
We have just returned from a visit to Italy which began in Rome and ended in Venice with a much need respite in Lucca - a quaint town in the Tuscany region. We were lucky enough to discover Il Rifugio, a warm and inviting bed & breakfast owned by two of the most gracious hosts you will ever meet, Bill and John (and can't forget aldo and Momi). From the moment we stepped out of the car, we felt like we were coming home. We arrived in the late afternoon and were offered cheese, crackers, nuts and wine made specifically for Bill and John. We talked and laughed for hours as they have an extensive knowledge of the area as well as many stories to share. We continued getting to know each other with dinner at a great restaurant just up the hill - you must try the beans! After a very restful night's sleep in a warm comfy bed you are awakened by a rooster and the sounds of church bells coming from the beautiful stone church across the way beckoning the farmers to the fields (as legend would have it). Bill & John would have coffee on while preparing a phenomenal breakfast (which I won't give away as you must experience it on your own). Outside you are surrounded by beautiful gardens all created by Bill & John. I can only be envious of the beauty it will bring in the Spring when all the flowers are in bloom as it was breathtaking in the Fall. Bill & John provided us with directions, train schedules and recommendations for restaurants to aid us in our planned outings to the City of Lucca and Cinque Terre - both are must sees.
Unfortunately, our stay had to end as we needed to move on to our next destination. With tears in my eyes, I gave hugs and said my good byes to our newly found friends.
Bill and John, thank you so much for your warmth and welcoming natures and for opening your beautiful home to us!

These wonderful guests, from the Northeastern part of the USA,
were a group of 4 people. They needed the peace and quiet of this little village to get their "travel" energy back...we loved having them.
They toured the Cinque Terre, Florence, and the Lucca area while
staying here with us.
We look forward to seeing them again here in Sant' Andrea di
Compito....they are always welcome.
