We had a really excellent stay in this lovely apartment in a gorgeous walled town. The initial contact with the apartment's owners seemed a bit haphazard but they were lovely when we met them and very helpful. The apartment was beautiful and had everything we wanted although it is up a lot of stairs! It has an authentic air as does the town and the recomended restaurants were great! Higly recommended as a base for both seeing Tuscany and staying in Lucca.

Lucca is a gem. The apartment was lovely with high ceilings, a great room and two private bedrooms. The set up is great for a family of four or two couples. Amenities were fine and included a washing machine. The apartment had real charm, was well positioned and service was excellent. The only proviso is that the 3 flights (or was it four) of stairs are not for the faint hearted or older people.

We stayed in the lovely apartment del Toroin May 2012. Andrew and Bernadette were great. Andrew met us at the apartment on arrival and was very helpful giving us tips on where was good to eat and what to see. He also helped explain the best way to do a day trip to the Cinque terre via train. Bernadette was also very kind organizing some toys and books for our 2 year old girl. The apartment is very nice, well equipped and in a great part of the town. We loved apartment del Toro and Lucca. We will be back.

This was a girls trip - 4 great friends! We toured for 1 week and then spent a week in Lucca on our own. The apartment was wonderful as was the location. The sounds from the street brought back wonderful memories as all of us grew up in in a large city with a large Italian population. Bernadette met us at the train and got us settled into the apartment. The accomodations were spacious and had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend apt. Del Toro to people who want to be in the heart of things. Everything was convenient to get to. Shopping was fantastic and the food and people were fabulous! There were a few things I wished were different. First - there are a lot of stairs to the top floor and no one told us that the lights are timed in the hallway. Very scarry the first time this happened. Also the key was most difficult to use. We really had a difficult time more than once trying to get back into the apartment. Being american, maybe we are a bit spoiled, it would have been nice to have an extra set of bath towels available. After 2 weeks together I am happy to report that we are still best friends!! Would love to return again soon.

We found apartment del Tor to be "as advertised" on Trip advisor. We spent 5 nights in Lucca with our two young-adult children. Andrew met us at the train station and accompanied us to the apartment. All the applicances were in good working order and the apartment was very clean. Andrew was very accomodating throughout our stay. He gave us advice on which restaurants to visit and brought us beach towels for our trip to Chinque Terre. The location was very good inside the wall. We walked to shopping and restaurants. This was a very relaxing part of our trip to Italy. The one drawback, although not a big one, to this particular apartment, was that it was up 3 or 4 flights of stairs.

Apartment del Toro was a great location. In centre of to town. Andrew was very helpful, organised and professional. The apartment was amazingly large and spacious. Our only negative thoughts were that the overall cleanliness of the apartment could have been improved on.
Would definitely recommend and stay again. -

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at apartment del Toro. We particularly enjoyed meeting andrew and Bernadette who could not have been more helpful. It was a relief to be able to speak English (Strine) with them.
The apartment had everything one could conceivably need (although there is no microwave if you really want one of those- we didn't need one).
And it was in a very quiet spot!
The location is excellent if you want to be in the heart of old Lucca within walking distance of everything. We walked to Lucca Italian School very day and spent a lot of time winding the lanes and streets of Lucca.
Be aware that this apartment is on the top floor of a 3 story building with high ceilings and a relatively steep staircase so it may not suit people with disabilities.
Also, be aware that, if you have a car, you must park it outside the city walls, but that would apply to any place inside the walls. -

Left on 07/26/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Our two weeks in Lucca staying at the apartment del Toro was the highlight of our month exploring beautiful Italy.
We decided upon an apartment with Destination Lucca and soon, we feel, established a rapport with andrew who was always there to answer our questions and to seek advice on many of our plans, he in every instance promptly answered queries and gave suggestions for us to consider.
We were met by Bernadette, Andrew's wife who was just fantastic, nothing too much trouble and was always at the end of the phone for assistance, from advising her favourite butcher, bakery, delicatessen and general store for fruit and vegetables. Bernadette also organised a local cab driver to be available to us when we ventured outside the walls to participate in our cooking lessons.
The apartment was lovely, and I think we even called it "home” sometimes. It was very comfortable and it had everything we needed to make the stay enjoyable. It was lovely to be able to have a late, lazy breakfast before going out for the day to enjoy Lucca and the surroundings. And for three ladies to be able to do the washing whilst having breakfast was a real luxury. We loved the potted plants and herbs in the window, and being able to pick the fresh herbs when we cooked our Ragu was a real treat.
The apartment was in a great position. We found the local delicatessen, pastry shop and bakery and fresh fruit and vegetables nearby. It was great to get to know the local shopkeepers and they were all very kind. Being so well situated also meant that after attending an Opera Recital in the evening, it was a pleasant walk through the streets of Lucca back to the apartment.
Apartment del Toro added what was a little bit of "magic” to our stay in Lucca

Left on 05/15/2012 for a stay in January 2012
This is the second time I have stayed in Del Toro for a month in Dec/January (2012 & 2008) & again it was an amazing experience. Have made some amazing Italian friends & everyone at the tourist bureau as always, were so helpful when arranging tours. The San Martino Winery/Cooking Class is an absolute 'must do' - the roast pork, fresh pasta tiramisu & the vino... still look at the video & reminisce about the experience & hospitality from the amazing hosts.
Met an amazing reflexoligist - the treatment left me floating for the rest of the day.
Of course, no trip would be the same without going to Florence/Cinque Terra (despite the floods last October, still a beautiful, fabulous part of the world/ Viareggio for Carnivale & the list goes on & on. No more room...to write about the many other attractions in this wonderful part of the world. Lastly, I will be back as soon as I possibly can... Ciao Ciao - Marie -

Andrew and Bernadette were very helpful and thoughtful hosts who ensured that all was in place to enjoy our one week holiday in Lucca in april 2011. They assisted us with information on where to eat, park our car, things to do and when and where to catch buses/trains etc. The apartment itself was well appointed, as described in the ads and was ideally located within the walls. We travelled with our two young daughters who were 3 and 6 months at the time - the apartment and its location were well suited to them too. A big thanks a + B for the Hi 5 and Wiggles Dvds which came in handy on the one day we had rain. We can only highly recommend this apartment. Gary, Meg, Audrey + Harriet. Melbourne, Australia.

The owners were very helpful and friendly - helping with our plans before and during arrival. Bernadette was there to greet us at the bus stop on our arrival. And also helped us with our dinner plans.
The apartment itself was so warm and inviting - so much better than staying in a hotel. It had eveything we could possibly need and more. It was surprisingly spacious and full of character and class. There was a tea/coffee and even a bottle of wine for us to enjoy on arrival. It was conveniently located, just minutes from the bus station and a few streets away from one of the main squares.
I would strongly recommend this apartment and will certainly return in the future! -

Wonderfully located apartment. Right in the center of the old city, a few minutes walk from the beautiful piazza st. michele and from the bus station by the old city's gate, yet ideally tucked away in a quiet street. The apartment is a quaint attic with slanted roof and wooden beams. While it could use more sunlight, it is spacious, charming and comfortable.
The best part of the whole experience for us was the sincere attentiveness of andrew and Bernadette. Ready to help and assist with any concerns we had from setting up internet connection to finding a pilates class for us or giving advice on the ins and outs of Lucca, any stay with Destination Lucca promises to be comfortable and enjoyable. -

We had 3 nights at this apartment and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. From initial booking to being met off the bus and escorted to the apartment and being given all the local 'know how', including what was on that weekend, Andrew couldn't have been more helpful and informative.
The apartment itself was very comfortable, warm and welcoming - including wine, coffee, tea and even fresh milk on our arrival. We had a relaxing restful weekend with friends and are planning our return again next year. Lucca is a beautiful city and well worth visiting and the apartment very central for all the shops, restaurants etc. -

Traralgon, AustraliaDestination Lucca is Fantastic
Left on 09/05/2010 for a stay in July 2010
To walk through the walls of Lucca is to journey back in time. It is a truly wonderful and magical town. In June this year (2010) our family embarked on a 7 week European holiday that saw us visit Paris, London, Ireland, Venice, Croatia, Rome and finally 9 days in Lucca.
We were referred to Destination Lucca by friends who had stayed in one of their apartments a couple of years earlier. We stayed in apartment Del Toro which was absolutely perfect for our family. It is an unbeliveably well appointed villa with 2 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a very large kitchen, dining and living area. We could not have been anymore impressed with the facilities this apartment had to offer. It helped make Lucca one of the highlights of our journey as we found time to relax and enjoy the delights of Tuscany. Using Lucca as our base we were able to visit Florence, Pisa and Cinque Terre. Other days were spent at the beach and shopping or simply just roaming around the village of Lucca.
Andrew and Bernadette were the most amazing hosts and we congratulate them on how professional, friendly and informative they were. They are a wonderful family who have a passion for the Italian culture that is extremely contagious. The food, the wine, the art, the music will penetrate your soul and stay with you forever. Words cannot describe just how special Lucca is. Hire a bike and ride around the streets, stop for a coffee, shop at a deli, buy some fresh bread, walk the wall and enjoy the view - the sights, the smells, the sounds - you will not be disappointed.
Andrew and Bernadette and Destination Lucca have given us some very special memories. -

Highly recommended accomodation. Very nicely furnished, within the city walls. We have been provided cot and high chair for the baby. No carpark but it's understandable in a pedestrian city center. Lots of free parking space just outside the walls. We have been so pleased that we are returning this year!

OUr stay could not have been any better. The apartment was so nice, my 10
year old even asked if we could move to it permanently...Bernadette was
wonderful, as she knew we were coming in after a long day of travel she had
dinner ready for us, the apartment heated and ready to go. The location is the
best that can be - inside the historic centre, by shops that have all you need.
The apartment itself is spacious and cosy at the same time, perfect for a
family or two couples. We will hopefully return one day... -

Apartment del Toro far exceeded our expectations. It was clean, well furnished and centrally located within the old city walls of Lucca. The owners certainly believe in the art of customer service. We found cold milk in the fridge for our young son, as well as a bottle of wine waiting for my husband and I. They were attentive and responsive while respecting our privacy. The apartment was perfect for our family. I highly recommend this apartment and would be thrilled to stay there again!

We stayed here on our honeymoon and could not have been happier. The apartment was spottless, couldnt have asked for better amenities (there really was nothing we could think of that wasnt provided) very friendly hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Beds very comfy...sunny apartment, beautiful beamed ceilings throughout, big bathrooms and very reasonably priced for what it actually is. It is very rare in my travelling experience that accomodation exceeds expectations to this extent. Thankyou Andrew & Bernadette. We have wonderful memories, and hope to return some day!

Apartment del Toro is most conveniently located within the walls of Lucca, making a car unnecessary as you can walk easily to all corners of the city. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms plus large kitchen/sitting room it is absolutely perfect for two couples or a family. The apartment is most comfortably furnished, and the kitchen well equiped for serious cooking! Hosts Andrew and Bernadette were just great in welcoming us and ensuring we were set up for our stay, including a complimentary bottle of wine and excellent advice on things to do in and around this unique city. We recommend this apartment in the highest possible terms to any prospective visitors.
