Scottsdale, AZBeautiful apartment in charming Lucca
Left on 01/18/2013 for a stay in March 2012
We stayed in this lovely apartment for 3 nights, and didn't want to leave! Comfy beds, plenty of space, beautiful furnishings, helpful and friendly owner. We only wished the weather had been warmer, as we wanted to enjoy the patio! Highly recommend!
We did day trips to Pisa and Cinque Terre from here, and it was so nice to bring our 4 kids (ages 5-13) back to this peaceful apartment after busy days of sightseeing. We also loved biking around Lucca's walls, and seeing the Roman ruins under the nearby church. This was the perfect home-away-from-home. Traveling with kids who managed to get gelato on everything they wore made the washer especially handy!
Lucca, the town, was one of my favorite stops in our 12 days in Italy. -

Melbourne, AustraliaA fantastic apartment in a beautiful Italian town
Left on 01/15/2013 for a stay in October 2012
My wife and I and our four children spent six unforgettable weeks in Lucca. Our hosts andrew and Bernadette were fantastic, nothing was too muct trouble and andrew encouraged us to call him if we had any queries and was a constant source of help, be it for restaurants, shops, side trips or lost keys! This is truly a great apartment in one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. It was an experience our family will never forget, and i cannot recommend it more highly.

Excellent service from down-to-earth andrew - who helped with information about the apartment and the local area. The apartment was spacious and so relaxing after our small hotel room in Rome! The large kitchen was great as was the outdoor terrace for evening dinners. Close to Lucca's antique shops and within easy walking distance of the station for day trips to Pisa, Florence, etc. The sound of the piano and singing from the San Giovanni church each evening really made the stay a one of a kind.

Melbourne, AustraliaLive like a local in lovely Lucca
Left on 11/22/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We stayed in apartment San Giovanni for two weeks in September 2012. We were met by andrew at the railway station and shown personally to the apartment which was so helpful after arriving in a new town. The apartment is maintained to a high standard and has plenty of room for everyone to spread out - quite a luxury after staying in hotel rooms (there were 5 people in our group). The terrace was perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the balmy weather! After a couple of weeks on the road the washing machine was a welcome feature. The apartment's location is very central to everything, and andrew was very helpful with advice on local shops, places to visit, and good places to eat. There is also great deli/bistro/wine bar about 20 metres from the apartment.

Lucca to us was the real taste ot Italy.Accommodation was perfect, very clean and everything that we needed was there. The assistance given by Bernadette and andrew with where best to go, help with language etc was amazing. Lucca itself being a walled city is unique,it has lovely shops and restaurants, and easily accessible by train. We are now telling all of our friends that Destination Lucca is a must for a trip to Italy.

Left on 11/14/2011 for a stay in July 2011
In the morning the sun shone in on the dining table in the kitchen. In the evening it shone on the balcony where we had our drinks while we listened in on the Puccini arias being performed in the church next door.
We got lost every day wandering the maze of streets, but we always found our way back - using the local grocery stores as landmarks.
The apartment was great, the bedrooms were spacious and the furniture comfortable. In the evenings we could all congregate in the big lounge to discuss our discoveries.
We loved every minute. Our teenage kids didn't even complain about the stairs, so it must have been good. -

Left on 06/07/2011 for a stay in May 2011
Andrew and Bernadette (the owners) should teach the master class on how to rent apartments to travelers in Italy. Andrew met us on his bicycle to guide us to parking near the apartment. Then, after checking us in and showing us the amenities, he sat with us at the balcony table and pointed out on a map every kind of restaurant, shop, and attraction we were interested in. For the entire trip, A & B remained available by phone (e.g., to recommend nearby wineries) but in no way imposed on us during our stay.
The apartment itself is beautiful, roomy, and well appointed. Our group of 5 adults had more than enough space to lounge, eat, and spread out through the various rooms. The bathrooms are completely updated, spacious, and functional. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in, with a huge gas stove and even a dishwasher. The marble kitchen sink, while a bit on the shallow side, is a beautiful feature. Sitting on the balcony (while drinking a bottle or two of wine) was so pleasant, we were tempted to eat in every night. The apartment even has the backpacker's holy grail--a washing machine!
It's hard to think of any complaints--the good details substantially outweigh any flaws. As the apartment is near the top floor of the building, it might not be suitable for the mobility-impaired. However, if you can handle a few flights of stairs, you will love it.

Ireland, DublinThe Diamond in the Rough
Left on 09/13/2010 for a stay in August 2010
Let me start by explaining my title. Some visitors to the old city of Lucca might think its a bit rough, by rough I mean a bit run down maybe, but it is far from this. The San Giovanni apt is definitely a diamond.
To be honest I thought the title sounded catchy Lucca is not rough it is quaint and offers a lot of surprises.
Now lets talk about the apt, I haven't a bad thing to say about it. If offers all the mod cons, it even has hairdryers in the bathrooms. The kitchen is exceptionally well equiped and a budding gourmet chef could do worse creating culinary materpieces here.
The sitting room and bedrooms are very spacious, the only thing is they are that spacious when you talk there is an echo ...only kidding but they are spacious.
I would highly recommend a stay at these apts and I am sure we will be back again. -

STAFFORDA great apartment in the centre of Lucca
Left on 09/03/2010 for a stay in April 2008
The apartment was first rate - plenty large enough for 5 adults not to be tripping over each other and the 'free' music concerts listened to on the balcony/terrace were a bonus! The facilities in the apartment were great for eating 'in', a cook's kitchen and the all important dishwasher made it feel like home from home. Most importantly the apartment was not cluttered with too many personal belongings of the owners. Andrew was extremely helpful with the booking and greeting and we will certainly be staying again at some time in the future.

Chester, UKFantastic apartment, fantastic owners. Highly recommended.
Left on 08/11/2010 for a stay in July 2010
We stayed in this apartment during a trip to Italy in July 2010. The apartment itself is very spacious and tastefully decorated, and the owners (Bernadette and Andrew) were helpful and efficient from the moment I enquired to the moment we left (and afterwards with tips on our next destination in fact!).
As a family of four we comfortably fitted into the apartment and enjoyed the chance to cook our own meals in the very well-equipped kitchen. Eating out on the spacious balcony and listening to the Puccini concerts in the church below was one of the highlights of our tour.
Overall we thought this apartment easily lived up to, and surpassed, our expectations. Andrew and Bernadette, with their helpful advice on the surrounding area, and eagerness to sort out any issue, were the icing on the cake. I can't recommended this place, or this rental company, enough - we have every intention to return again to Lucca and Destination Lucca will be our first choice for accommodation.

LondonTrue Italian Experience
Left on 03/21/2010 for a stay in February 2009
If you are looking to experience the real Italy and experience what life would have been like living centuries in a Tuscan appartment, then definitely choose San Giovanni apartment. Its my absolute favourite. Being a lover of architecture, it ticks all the boxes... floors, fittings, views, large rooms, tiled floors, wood floors, fabulous bathrooms... and if you crave the 21st century, then just stay in and watch a dvd... The terrace/balcony at this apartment is divine... even in winter when I visited, and in summer it would be magic. Close to everything you need to get to in lovely Lucca. I definitely want to return.

The apartment San Giovanni was very spacious and well equipped with all mod cons. It's ideally located within the town walls and only a few minutes walk from some of the finest restaurants. There was a concert that featured Puccini's work and this was held at the back of the apartment, we sat out on the veranda and enjoyed the music for free.
We received great assistance and advice from the owner of the apt. I have no hesitation in recommending this place. Excellent. -

Left on 10/29/2009 for a stay in September 2009
Apartment San Giovanni in Lucca was the most wonderful part of our holiday. The apartment is spacious, excellently furnished and equipped, well designed, clean and well cared for. More than adequate for 6 adults for any length of time. It is in an excellent position and has a real Italian/Tuscan feel to it. The wonderful outside balcony overlooking the roofs of Lucca is charming and attractive. A big plus for these apartments is the attention given by Andrew and Bernadette, the owners. They are quickly available if needed, settled us in on arrival, assisted with confirming bookings and advice on Italy and places to vsit. And of course Lucca itself is a fascinating city to stay in.
We highly recommend these apartments.

Bernadette was extremely welcoming and helpful. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the balcony and listening to the opera from the church next door. The apartment was close to restaurants and shops and was easy to find.
We liked that the apartment was large enough for a family and provided us with the comforts of home.
My husband would have liked better water pressure when showering !!
