Description from the owner

Apartment Santa Zita is a four bedroom, two and a half bathroom apartment with a huge sitting room, a large dining room and a massive terrace. It is luxurious, elegantly furnished and extremely spacious (more than 230 square metres plus a terrace of more than 40 square metres). The upstairs bedrooms are air conditioned and there is a second roof-top terrace.

The apartment is actually a terra-tetto which means from ground floor (terra) to the roof (tetto). This means that the apartment is the whole building which is very rare for Lucca's centro storico. The ground floor houses two shops which are not part of the apartment (obviously). On...Read more

Lucca the best part of our Italian vacation.

Left on 01/31/2013 for a stay in June 2012

We had a wonderful Italian vacation last summer. We started in Rome and ended in Venice, but the most relaxing and enjoyable stay was in Lucca. We had five adult family members in our group. That made apartment Santa Zita a perfect choice for us. There was plenty of room and the patio terrace was a great gathering spot. The apartment was centrally located in old Lucca right next to the amphitheater. Andrew was considerate enough to greet us at the train station and walked us through our accomodations. We solicited recommendations and he turned us on to some great attractions and restaurants. There were markets, cafes and a gelateria within steps of Santa Zita. I personally enjoyed Lucca and did not feel like one week was enough time to see and experience everything. Next time we will shoot for a month.
Be sure to take a day trip to hike the Cinque Terre.

      What and amazing holiday!

Left on 01/23/2013 for a stay in April 2012

The pictures of Santa Zita apartment bring back so many rich memories for my family and I. We stayed here for 3 months and enjoyed every min. Thanks to the hospitality and generosity of the hosts andrew and Bernadette we were able to experience all that Lucca has to offer and enjoy the experience of immersing ourselves into the Tuscan culture.

The people of Lucca were welcoming, kind and generous to a fault. The apartment was within easy walking distance to everything inside the walls as well as supermarket shopping just outside the walls.

The apartment is huge! Big enough to hold our extended family of 8 people with comfort and space to spare. The outdoor patio area was the perfect place for the family to share precious memories and afternoon vino and cheese!

There was every creature comfort and nothing was left undone. Weekly housekeeping, videos and children's games in English, books and even andrew's kids to make friends with when our own children were tired of site seeing.

Amazing service. We arrived late in the evening and were provided with bread, fruit, cereals, eggs and ham for breakfast. Nothing was too much for andrew and Bernadette. Advice on where to eat, best value sites to visit, hair dressing and beautician appointments and even where to buy specialty items like preservative free wine.

Even now that we are home we have regular contact with andrew, Bernadette and their children.

While Lucca and Italy was an amazing experience for my family, the most memorable part of our holiday is that the apartment became our home away from home, with friends made, laughs shared and a burning desire to return someday very soon.

I cant recommend Destination Lucca and apartment Santa Zita enough. Thank you.

Lucca, simply an amazing city to immerse yourself into "La dolce

Left on 01/21/2013 for a stay in April 2012

From the outset of our communications regarding the rental of this property, Andrew was extremely professional, always responding on a timely basis, with factual exchange of information.
Upon our arrival in Lucca, Andrew met us at the trian station, and personally escorted us to Sanata Zita. Along the 15 minute walk, Andrew pointed out many of Lucca's land marks.
Sanata Zita was the perfect accomodation for our family of 8. Included in our family, was our 17 month old grandson. As per our request, a high chair and baby crib were in the flat for our use.
The flat had 4 good size bedrooms, with the master bedroom / master bath seperated from the other three bedroms. Perfect for my wife and myself.
The large dining room, living room and the outdoor patio gave us all the space we needed to feel very comfortable.
The kitchen was very well equiped with all that is necessary for everyday cooking, whether it is as simple as breakfast, or more elaborate dinners.
I don't believe there could be a better location in Lucca. Everyting your possibly want is just outside your door.
We look forward to our next visit.

      Brilliant once again!

Left on 01/21/2013 for a stay in December 2012

This is our third trip to Lucca and the third time we have stayed at andrew and Bernadette's apartments and, once again, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Apartment Santa Zita was very comfortable, well equipped, beautifully furnished and spacious for our party of eight. We felt very much at home. Andrew met us at the train station which was such a relief after a big day of travel! The apartment is a very short walk to a small supermarket so it is easy to gather supplies. Around the corner are fabulous shops and restaurants/cafes and much to explore. Lucca is a wonderful destination in Tuscany and a great base from which you can easily explore the region. Andrew kindly organised a driver and car for a day and we travelled as a group to Siena and San Gimignano. It was great to sit back, relax and enjoy our day. Another day we trained to Florence and again andrew arranged for us to be met by a wonderful tour guide and we were given a private walking tour of the sights of Florence, the Uffizi and accadamia Galleries. Highly recommended. Our day trip to Pisa was wonderful and it is just amazing to see and climb the stairs of the Leaning Tower! Happily, we enjoyed one of my favourite restaurants in Lucca, Rusticanella, it is great for families and the food is brilliant and great value. Our trip to Italy was full of wonderful times and a big thank you to andrew and Bernadette for helping to make our holiday in Lucca so special.

A wonderful holiday in a magic town.

Left on 01/20/2013 for a stay in April 2012

The best holiday I have even had. Too stay in a small town in Tuscany for
9 weeks was a lovely way to understand how Lucca works. And to share
it with family and friends made it more special. And even in 9 weeks
I'm sure there were still things we didn't get to do. We didn't eat at every
restaurant or drink at every bar. We did go to a concert in the beautiful
concert hall and a recital in a church. We walled the walls and the kids
rollerbladed them. We also visited many of the towns and sights nearby.

      Trip of a lifetime

Left on 01/19/2013 for a stay in August 2012

From the moment I first made contact with andrew up until we left lovely Lucca our trip was perfect. We were a family group of 9 people. My hubby and myself and 7 youngsters aged between 16 and 24. The accomodation was superb, comfortable and spacious. We especialy loved the balcony and spent most of our time there. It was the hottest week of the year so the air-conditioning took some strain, and my hubby struggled abit with the heat. Andrew helped us with itinerary planning and booked our first meal for us as we were arriving late. He also helped in booking for the Uffizi and tour guides in Lucca and Florence who were really great. Lucca was mesmorizing and we fell totally in love with this little town. Wish I could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back.

      Perfection

Left on 01/19/2013 for a stay in January 2013

It is rare that a holiday rental exceeds all expectations, but in this case, our expectations were blown out of the water. Appartamento Santa Zita in the historic center of Lucca is a four bedroom, 2+ bathroom that is well suited for families or a group of friends. It is a very spacious apartment, tastefully furnished with excellent WiFi access. Our hosts, Andrew and Bernadette have thought of everything down to the excellent guides and restaurant recommendations in Lucca.

Now to Lucca, this almost perfectly preserved jewel of medieval architecture and buildings, emanates charm and shows layers of history from every corner of its narrow winding streets is easily explored by walking. I suggest you forget the car and spend spend a week in Lucca exploring the maze of streets and taking a daily giro around the 4.3 kilometer path atop the wall, breakfasting at the numerous bars, shopping and discovering sensational Tuscan food.

I highly recommend Destination Lucca to anyone who is looking for quality apartment accommodation in Lucca. They have several apartments in the historic center of Lucca that should suit most requirements.

      A Great Choice

Left on 10/19/2012 for a stay in October 2012

My 7 friends and I stayed at Santa Zita for 6 nights starting on the 29th of Sept. I had considered many other places, but settled on this one for many reasons, and it turned out to be almost perfect! First of all, the apartment is over 2500 sq ft, and has a huge balcony. The balcony was great for breakfasts, cocktails and a couple of dinners we prepared, and the picnic table with umbrella comfortably seated all of us. The apartment is nicely furnished and decorated, and the kitchen had everything we could ask for. The wi-fi worked great, and the land-line phone was a nice link to andrew, our landlord. Andrew encouraged us to call him and ask anything we might ask concierge at a hotel. The master bedroom and bath were fabulous, with a huge walk-in closet that was extremely well-organized, with hanging areas and shelf storage. There were 3 other bedrooms, one smaller one with two twin beds, and two larger bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and one with a full bed. The latter had no closet, which would have been nice, but it did have a chest of drawers. There is a full bathroom upstairs, a full bath in the master, and a half bath in the downstairs hall. Scheduling shower time was a bit challenging, but worth the hassle considering the wonderful environment we occupied. You can find all of this information on the website. All space was extremely nice, and this was a great place to "come home" to every night, and sometimes for a little rest in the afternoon. The apartment is within the walls of Lucca, and an easy walk to everything, including the train station. Andrew actually met us at the train station and walked us to the apartment. It was easy to take day trips out of Lucca to Pisa, Cinque Terre and Barga. Florence would have been easy as well, but we decided to make it a 3 day destination. Andrew can help connect you to tour guides, or whatever else you want to do. Train trips are best arranged by a travel agent in Lucca. They do not charge a commission, and they can do everything you need with ease, instead of figuring our your options in front of a machine at the train station. Lucca is a wonderful city to stay in, with charm, no traffic within the walls, wonderful restaurants, markets, and Santa Zita was really an amazing value. I would definitely stay there again! Andrew does a top-notch job! By the Way, Santa Zita is the patron saint of house-keepers! One final note it that the neighbors can be quite noisy, and they often don't go to bed until the wee hours of the morning. So, earplugs, (or a strong sleep aid) unfortunately, are a must, as with most other cities we visited.

Left on 08/29/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We and another family recently stayed at the Santa Zita we were 8 people in all. We have stayed in Lucca on several occasions and have stayed at the Santa Zita previously (in the October) and at other properties owned by Destination Lucca on other occasions. It was particularly hot during our recent stay in Lucca and the lack of air conditioning in the downstairs bedroom was noticable. Whilst air conditioning is available in the three upstairs bedrooms it really is needed in the downstairs room. That being said our host andrew was as pleasant and helpful as ever. He organised our taxi from the airport to the apartment and was on hand to assist offer us assistance whenever required. I would return to stay at this apartment - but perhaps only in the Spring or autumn months - given the limited air conditioning.

      Superb accommodation

Left on 08/06/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Seven of us stayed at the apartment Santa Zita and it was very good indeed. The apartment is spacious, beautifully furnished and in an ideal setting, on a quiet side street in the heart of Lucca. Everyone in the group agreed that we were staying in a gem of a place and we were fortunate to have discovered it!

Andrew met us at the bus station, led us to the apartment and gave us some very useful details of the town along with a map.

The 3 mile bike ride around the city walls is a grand introduction to Lucca followed by a 10 mile lovely cycle path on either side of river with a small bar restaurant on the riverside on the return journey. Andrew gave us details of this cycle run and where to find the local cycle hire shop. It's a trip well worth doing. A day trip to the coast by train is also great.

We cannot praise this apartment enough. If you plan to stay in Lucca in a group of 4 to 10, head for the apt Santa Zita; you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful one day! Perfect the next. Unbelievable accommodation

Left on 07/15/2011 for a stay in April 2011

Travelling on an overseas trip with four children can be stressful, but in Lucca no such issue, I already know we will be sorry to leave Lucca and Santa Zita.

Andrew met us at the train station and helped organise a taxi to the apartment, of course when you are waiting for a taxi they never arrive, so my husband and three daughters caught one and my daughter and I decided to walk with andrew from the station, through the walls of Lucca to Santa Zita, a very easy pleasant stroll.

Along the way andrew gave us an overview of the sites to see, the shops, the markets, the culture and lifestyle.

For the Italian experience, Lucca is sensational. Andrew advised us on things to do and see and how best to get there, nothing was too much trouble and all his tips were greatly appreciated. From shopping at the local Super Mercato,(easy 2 minute walk) and delis, restaurants, cafes and truly the best coffee in Italy! I felt like we were living the Italian lifestyle.

There was so much to see and do in Lucca, from riding bikes along the top of the wall, the street market, churches, museums, hided treasures. Fantastic shopping, sorry we didn't buy more, in hindsight it was the best shopping in Italy, Lucca was also great to use as a base to travel to Siena, Pisa and Cinque Terre.

And what can I say about the accommodation - it really was sensational. We have a beautiful home and when we travel it always takes me a few days to adjust, the kitchen is never as good, and the bathrooms are always lacking.
      The bathrooms were luxurious.
We did cook at home a couple of times, enjoying lunch on the beautiful terrace.
The bedrooms, were the biggest I have even seen, with beautiful bedding.
At the end of very long days walking I couldn't wait to sink into the beautiful doona and pillows having the best nights sleep! Very spoilt.

Simple things like a good laundry, books and videos, add to a very enjoyable experience. Altough on holidays, unfortunately clothes still need to be washed and the children do need a bit of down time.

My only criticism would be that the light over the dining table didn't work.

We look forward to one day returning to Italy and without hesitation staying at Santa Zita, I hope that andrew will be there to greet us.

      Thanks x

      Best Vacation Ever

Left on 03/22/2011 for a stay in March 2011

My family traveled to Lucca over spring break. From our first dealings with andrew to when we left, the service was excellent. Andrew met us at the Lucca gate exactly when he said he would, took us to the apartment, and answered all of our questions graciously. The apartment itself was beautiful, easy to use, and very spacious.
We became even more impressed with andrew when drama arose over a leak in the room below the apartment we were renting. My family had to move out because we could not use any water, but the experience was not stressful. Andrew came, helped us move, and took us to another beautiful apartment. Again, he helped us situate ourselves.
During our entire stay, Andrew was very helpful, answering the phones whenever we called and trying to make sure we had the best vacation (which we did). The apartment(s) were beautiful, clean, and spacious.
Lastly, the off-season price was excellent for such a lovely apartment.

      Dream Digs in Lucca

Left on 12/05/2010 for a stay in June 2010

My family embarked on our "trip of a lifetime" this past summer and the planning process went on for nearly a year. In midst of online research, we had the good fortune of discovering Destination Lucca's apartment Santa Zita.

From our first emails to our final farewell after a heavenly week in Lucca, property manager, Andrew, could not have been more good-humored and accommodating.

      The apartment itself is superb.
Santa Zita's dimensions, decor, and amenities were beyond our already high expectations. And isn't it nice when that happens? How great is was to to find that the flattering photos and descriptions we'd all scrutinized for months didn't do justice to the genuine article!

The unit's four bedrooms and 2.5 baths were perfect for our group and the outdoor spaces were the icing on the cake. In particular, the terrace off the kitchen was a favorite spot. A smaller rooftop terrace was another charmer -- and a prime perch for morning coffee or a late night glass of wine.

There are plenty of merchants, food and otherwise, just outside the apartment. Also, a larger chain grocery store is just outside the city walls, 10-15 minutes away on foot.

The apartment really proved to be an ideal base of operations for the week. After considering the classic "Tuscan Villa" out in the verdant countryside, we all came to our senses and realized that with our group's wide ranging interests (and sleeping schedules) an apartment in the center of town would really be best suited to our various comings and goings.

And when plans took us beyond Lucca, the city's bus and train stations were a short walk from the apartment, making for easy day trips to Pisa, Florence, and the Cinque Terre!

One day we hope to return to Lucca and we won't need to comb through endless villa and apartment listings. It's hard to imagine a better accommodation than our "dream home" away from home: Apartment Santa Zita.

We arrived at midnight and we were met on time by our hosts. The apartment is served with TV , dvd player and dvds, and the living area and bedrooms are all spacious and very comfortable. It is also right in the middle of Lucca. This is a fantastic place to stay, and we could not fault it in any way.

      A magnificent apartment

Left on 05/06/2010 for a stay in April 2010

We were a group of six women attending the Koine Language School in Lucca for a week in April 2010. Apartment Santa Zita from Destination Lucca could not have been more perfect. We have stayed in apartments in Italy on previous trips, but none of them compared to this one. Everything went so smoothly from our first email inquiry on availability until the day we departed. As other writers have noted, Apartment Santa Zita is ideally located on a small, quiet little street just steps from the Amphitheater and from the main street, Via Fillungo. The apartment is on the 2nd and 3rd story of the building, with a lovely terrace off the kitchen and another one on the top floor. The bedrooms were clean, spacious, and well-furnished with plenty of closet space and drawers. The beds seemed like new and had crisp, pressed linens, extra down pillows, and attractive duvets. The bathrooms were completely modernized as was the electrical system. With so many of us using computers, IPhones, and Blackberries, the wireless system was extremely handy. The first floor of the apartment is composed of a living and dining area separated by a fireplace. The kitchen had modern appliances and was very well-equipped. Andrew and Bernadette were invaluable to us. Andrew met us upon our arrival and spent quite a bit of time familiarizing us on the use of the appliances, heating system, etc. and the town of Lucca. He and Bernadette were always available to answer questions. They were particularly helpful in arranging transportation for us to the airport and train station at the end of our stay. We only wish Andrew and Bernadette had more beautiful apartments like this in other parts of Italy.

Destination Lucca: fine food, fabulous apartment and service, wo

Left on 03/23/2010 for a stay in March 2010

The only way we could have improved our holiday break at Apartment Santa Zita from Destination Lucca is if we had stayed longer.

This is a home with beautiful furniture, polished floors, plenty of bathrooms, fresh crisp sheets and exceptionally comfortable beds, guaranteeing a restful night. It is spacious and clean and very quiet despite the proximity to sensational eateries. Local coffee shops and delicatessens sell delicious specialties: so much lovely food, so little time ...

There is a flat screen TV, CD player and a changing array of terrific English DVDs (great for the kids) and books. Make sure you give the Puccini a blast - Lucca is his hometown. My 9-year old and 19 year old both loved the apartment and the shopping. Everything is within easy walking distance. Just take a good map with you unless you want to spend a long time trawling narrow streets, which does have its pleasures. Several times I came across Bernadette (or she came across me) cycling around and available to direct me home.

I am very enthusiastic because Lucca was such a terrific introduction to Italian life and culture and to take a journey in such comfort was a real treat.

Australian hosts Bernadette and Andrew have been in Lucca for years and can advise where to eat and even book for you. They take a real pride in their product, and they are very genuine in their commitment to ensuring that guests enjoy themselves.

Lucca is a walled city and Apartment Zita overlooks the Amphitheatre and pretty tiled roof tops. There are two lovely terraces. The colours of the city in the afternoon sunshine are gold and mauve and orange. I took my paints.

When I return to Lucca (and I hope that will be soon), I will use it as a base to explore Florence and Pisa. I might even travel to Rome from there. It is only an hour and a quarter to Florence by train and the station is close by, according to the map.

It would be lovely to travel the world always in such comfort.

      A Great Stay In Lucca

Left on 03/02/2010 for a stay in September 2009

In September 2009 I was part of a group of six Italian language students who 'discovered' the apartments run Destination Lucca. Our Apartment Zita had ALL the creature comforts and felt more like a villa. It was spacious, very comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated -alla
moda Italiana- PLUS it had a large terrazzo where we ate, drank and relaxed many times. It was also a good spot for drying laundry! It also turned out to be a very convenient location in Lucca and as our first stop in Italy, Lucca was memorable.

Andrew, from Destination Lucca, was a terrific host. He sat down with us and gave us the lowdown on things to do, restaurants to visit, prices etc. He was also always available on his mobile and was incredibly accommodating and helpful with two of us who had had our wallets stolen in Rome.

The thing I liked least about our stay here was two of us forgetting a key and locking ourselves out of the apartment for an hour till we tracked down our friends!

Arrival was enhanced by the friendly personal service to ensure orientation both in the appartment as well as the local services, events and attractions. Any further needs were quickly satisfied after a phone call to the owners.
Although tucked in a side street not far from the Ampitheatre the location is close to markets, delis, bakeries, butcher, coffee bars, restaurants and the main street where the locals traditionally walk and socialize in the evening.
Facillities are of a high quality with antique furniture, a well equiped kitchen, laundry, large outdoor area, and plenty of bathrooms and separate spaces, making it ideal for families or sharing couples.
The best part was being able to walk everywhere within the walled city emersed in history, while still being able to satisfy modern needs without constantly fighting through tourists i.e. mostly day visitors to a few sites in Lucca. With our limited Italian we were able to source all our needs within the local area even over Christmas and New Year. There are many quality reasonably priced restaurants serving delicious traditional Tuscan food with some continuously serving the locals for 300 years.
The thoughtfulness of the owners was highlighted by the provision of a Christmas tree decorated by their children and special treats to give us a "homely" Christmas, as well as Dvds for our children to watch.
Maybe lighting was a little dim for night reading, but that's a feature of many older Italian buildings.
Our family all voted that Lucca with our stay at Apartment Santa Zita was the highlight of our Italian holiday.

      A great place to stay

Left on 02/11/2010 for a stay in September 2009

A group of six of us stayed at Apartment Santa Zita in September 2009.
Overall, it is a wonderful place to stay and I would strongly recommend it.
The ever-helpful Andrew from Destination Lucca met us at the station and
it was a short fifteen minute walk through the town to the apartment. The
apartment is located in the old town, just a few meters from the
amphitheatre and a short walk to city walls for the mandatory morning walk
or evening ‘passeggiata’. It is also very handy to a small, local supermarket
      and other shops.

The apartment itself is spacious, having a large lounge, separate dining
area and you can also eat outside on the beautiful terrace. The apartment
was spotless and the beds comfortable. Although it is in the centre of town,
it was very quiet. The apartment also had the usual conveniences such as
washing machine, dishwasher, etc. (including a small sound system to play
      your newly acquired Puccini CD’s).

      Lucca is a great place to stroll around and it is easy to explore the locality;
you can hire bikes and there is a terrific and safe bike-path that runs along
      the banks of the river.

Andrew and Bernadette proved to be a very nice and helpful couple whose
assistance was much appreciated, especially for example, with reducing the
stress associated with a lost credit card and in arranging a day-trip in
      surrounding country.

I would happily stay at Apartment Santa Zita again.

Large, beautiful, home-away-from-home within the walls of Lucca

Left on 11/07/2009 for a stay in July 2009

For 3 weeks during the summer of 2009, I got to experience a dream of mine, to live for a time in Italy. Apartment Santa Zita truly was my home away from home, & perfect in every way. It was large enough to easily & comfortably accommodate 8 people (2 families- 4 adults/4 kids), was nicely furnished, had comfortable beds, was very clean & modern, & had all of the amenities that we needed, including a well stocked kitchen, washing machine (we hung laundry to dry like most Italians do) & A/C in the upstairs bedrooms (which we only needed to use for a few nights that we were there, & it worked well). Probably the best feature of the apartment (besides the location within the walls which allowed for walking to everything we needed/wanted in the city) was the very large outdoor patio off of the kitchen. We spent many hours on that patio, eating homecooked meals (utilizing the herbs that were growing there), playing games & doing art projects with the kids, listening to the sounds of the neighborhood, & just relaxing in the shade under the table's big umbrella. I had never been to Italy before, and had many concerns about renting an apartment sight unseen for 2 families for such a long period of time. From the very beginning, Andrew & Bernadette of Destination Lucca made the experience so easy & stress free. They were amazingly helpful & responsive to all of my inquiries prior to our arrival, and honestly after my many emails back & forth, I felt like I had friends in Lucca that I would be visiting. They made us feel welcome upon our arrival with a gift of wine & snacks in the apartment, and the assurance that we could call upon them if we needed anything (& when travelling with young children to a country where you don't speak the language, that was a great reassurance). We loved our time in Apartment Santa Zita & highly recommend it. All of our expectations were met or exceeded, and I cannot speak highly enough about my experience with Destination Lucca.
