SydneyFabulous, convenient, spacious, charming, easy living!
Left on 11/11/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We both loved staying in Lucca for the week and this apartment was everything it said on Trip advisor and more...very convenient walk to the railway station for our train trips to Cinque Terre, Florence, Via Reggio etc...close to restaurants, churches, we really enjoyed the opera (Puccini) in the nearby church...only about 18 euros each for a most enjoyable hour before dinner...the apartment was lovely, interesting and charming, we were left some food (lovely cheese, tomatoes, etc) and sparkling water, bath stuff, books, maps ...really everything that you could ask for! You can also easily get the bus to Florence ...only about an hour...and we also got the train to La Spezia and then the bus to Porto Venere and had lunch and then got the boat around to Vernazza (Cinque Terre) for a late drink in the setting sun, a swim and then the train back to Lucca for dinner! It was all very easy really! A really great big bath in the main bathroom for a soak after a hard day of sight seeing was terrific too! Lots of great music and a good sound system, dish washer, washing machine, helpful and amusing notes of instructions from Clare were great too! Highly recommend this apartment!

We had a fabulous stay in Lucca. This apartment is stunning and Clare was a wonderful host. She picked us up at the station and also gave us a lift on our departure, due to taxi not being available. The apartment is spacious, airy and very swish. Clare left some basic provisions in the fridge to get us started, which was very kind. A great stay. Can recommend very highly. We will definitely book again, when we return to wonderful Lucca.

La PalmaFive great weeks in Lucca!
Left on 07/26/2012 for a stay in May 2012
When we arrived in Lucca, the owner, Clare, greeted us with fresh groceries, local wine, olive oil, and everything we need to recover from our long trip getting there.
This quiet and spacious apartment in Lucca far exceeded our expectations. This apartment was by far the nicest one we've rented during our 7 years travelling to Italy. The apartment was immaculate and in a very safe area (which is to say we felt safe in Lucca all times of day and into the late night).
This is a great location in Lucca. It is 50 yards from the best bakery in Lucca for morning coffee and pastry. It has quick access to the medieval wall that surrounds the town. There is a convenient pedestrian tunnel that leads you to the train station in less than 10 minutes. This was important because we chose not to rent a car and relied on the local trains to tour Tuscan towns including Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre, Sienna, and the local beach which was 20 minutes away.
Some amenities we enjoyed were the comfortable beds with high quality linens; the original art work, the very speedy internet connection, cloths washer/dryer, and a dishwasher. The bright and airy living room was extremely large with very tall ceilings and 6 or 7 large windows opening into a private courtyard and garden. This was a wonderful place to relax, read, listen to music, or watch T.V.
Clare helped us arrange for cooking classes in our kitchen. It was fully equipped and spacious enough to accommodate 4 of us preparing a 6 course Italian dinner. She also recommended some of the many great restaurants in Lucca and furnished us with a very well written handbook on this apartment called Libertas.
We highly recommend this apartment. Clare's recommendations and insights as a local resident helped make our stay in Lucca an absolutely wonderful experience. We are already planning a return trip!

Sydney AustraliaA wonderful sanctuary in Lucca
Left on 06/06/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We enjoyed our stay in Clare's apartment. It is nicely furnished, exactly like the pictures on the net. However, what the pictures don't show are all the thoughtful extras supplied by Clare. Food in the fridge for a 'snack' breakfast supplies, bathroom bits you might have forgotten, extra towels in case you need them...all thoughtful unexpected extras. The well written apartment manual that brings a smile to the dial. The aparment is comfortable and quiet, well situated for shopping and the wonderful wall of Lucca. The white terrazzo and colored glass chip floors are stunning. A couple of little things, there are no English speaking channels on TV, but then it is Italy and why would we want to watch the box? Also, a landline or Internet phone would be helpful.
Clare is a considerate host and a lovely person (we are not related!) I'd recommend her apartment in Lucca, we will return one day. Thanks Clare.Response from Clare Mahon - 07/15/2012

Left on 06/01/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We recently spent three nights at this beautiful apartment. It is spacious and extremely comfortable. It is situated very centrally within the walled city, and is easy to walk to interesting venues and restaurants. Clare is a gracious hostess, and had provided basic provisions for us, which was a very welcoming feature. We felt at home here. The apartment is in a beautiful and historic complex, and we seemed to be the only residents which was amazing. The two minor downsides were the fact that there is quite a flight of stairs to reach the apartment, and it is difficult on the first occasion to find the entrance to the garage - it seems to be quite camouflaged until you realise what to look for!
Thank you Clare, for a lovely experience. -

We were attracted to Libertas because of the location, uniqueness of the contemporary decor in a 600 year old palazzo and of course the amenities. But it was so much more than that. It was all the little things that Clare has thought of to make one feel at home. The light, the color, the intriguing collection of art, the kitchenware, the mesmerizing confetti terrazzo. She even had pots of fresh herbs and just the right groceries to get us through our first 12 hrs. Her information notebook was thorough and she was available to help if needed. It was fun to be there in the off season. No crowds, no lines and lots of sales. We will be back!

Sussex, EnglandGreat apartment in Lucca
Left on 01/21/2012 for a stay in December 2011
This apartment is delightful, and even more spacious than I had expected from the photos. The large living area has very comfy couches, B&B; Italia for design freaks and the real thing! The very comfortable bed is also B&B; Italia. There is a walk-in closet and the bathroom is large and well lit with a magnifying mirror. A hairdryer is supplied. Everything is very clean and modern and high quality. A lovely contrast to the wonderful old building and historic surroundings. A very quiet area as well. There is a washing and drying machine and a dish washer in the kitchen. There is an iron and ironing board. The situation is just lovely, outside the windows on all sides are trees or gardens. Food shops and restaurants are all close by. We had only 2 small things which we felt could have been better. There was an old computer and internet access was good- and free. We had a great time in this apartment. Lucca is a fabulous little place, and the apartment is a real gem. Thank you so much for our stay,we would definitely recommend this apartment to others.

Left on 01/10/2012 for a stay in December 2011
This is a beautiful apartment with lovely views. It has everything you need. It had all the conveniences of home, including WiFi to keep up with the folks back home, in a great location. It is very well looked after and is very comfortable. We really enjoyed the peaceful setting and the interesting area of Lucca where you can get away from the crowds but stay right in the centre of the town. It is also close to all amenities, especially good to be close to the small supermarket and the railway station. We would recommend this apartment to anyone who wants a quiet and beautiful setting for their holiday. You can explore all of Lucca from this apartment, but then you can return to a comfortable and wonderful place to sit and relax. We also had friendly and efficient service from the owner and so felt very secure with our booking. A wonderful apartment, a beautiful city and a friendly service - what more do you want from your holiday? We will definitely be returning. Thank you.

Perfect place to base yourself to enjoy life inside the walls of Lucca (as well as out -- to nearby Viareggio, and Pietrasanta or an hour to Firenze). The apartment is immaculate and well-situated -- a block from an entrance up to the top of the walls for a cycle around the city. The apartment is on a quiet street in the centro. All needs are thought of here and the owner is very helpful and has covered all details (washer/dryer...cell phone w/local sim card). You'll definitely want to consider staying even longer.

Left on 10/16/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We had a wonderful stay in Lucca at apartment Libertas. It is in a beautiful location in the beautifully restored arnolfini Palace located close to the botanical gardens. The apartment was elegant and spacious with the visitor's every need anticpated and catered for. Only thing lacking was the electric jug which didnt work.
The owner had thoughtfully left various goodies in the fridge and pantry so we did not immediately have to rush out and shop. The housekeeper kindly explained all the workings of the property on our arrival and waited for us although we were late in arriving. Any query we had was prommpty attended to by the owner, whether it related to car hire or tips on places to visit. From Lucca we made several day trips to Cinque terre, Florence and the nearby villas all easily accessible through the nearby rail network.
We'd love to return to Lucca to stay at Libertas.Response from Clare Mahon - 10/31/2011

The appartment is very nice decorated and it is very big. You get out and walk to the wall (within a minut) or go to the centre (5 minutes walking). If you want to see more of tuscany: Pisa 15 minutes) and Florence (45 minutes) are within the hour. Go to the sea (25 minutes) etc.

New Hampshire, USAIdeal base in Lucca
Left on 08/07/2010 for a stay in July 2010
This appartment is ideal as a base for exploring Lucca and northern Tuscany. It is a very short walk from the train station, but in a wonderfully quiet area inside the walls of Lucca. It is merely a 5-7 minute walk to the center of Lucca. The appartment if exceptionally spacious, open, bright and airy. Our party of 4 (two grown children, wife and self) had abundant room for dining, relaxing and being alone when desired. We hope to rent it again in the future.

Left on 04/12/2010 for a stay in May 2008
This apartment becomes, in an instant, your home away from home.
It is truely a vacation oasis,a short walk from the best fresh Italian food at both fine and relaxed restaurants or to shop and prepare at home. Comfortable, interesting, with views over the gardened courtyard and the playful streets of Lucca, it is a romantic place, courageously and imaginatively furnished, a pleasure to share with family and friends in sun, rain or moonlight.
To explore Lucca, rent a bicycle or stroll in the street markets, churches or along the old city walls. It is a town of exceptional historical interest, an architectural treasure trove and a picturesque as can be imagined.
The rental experience was professional and without a worry.

BostonAn Unforgettable Experience
Left on 04/11/2010 for a stay in May 2007
Our stay in this apartment was an unforgettable experience. The apartment itself is beautiful, original, and we immediately felt at home. It is very spacious, with two beautiful bedrooms tastefully decorated. Overall the apartment was very clean when we arrived, and the fridge was filled with delicious Italian treats. The apartment was especially enjoyable as we escaped the summer heat because of the large windows which open out into a beautiful courtyard. The apartment is located in a central but quiet area. A delicious bakery and grocery store are right around the corner. Interesting churches and one of the central squares are very near by. This was actually our second stay at this apartment, our previous stay was for a month and at the end we most certainly did not want to leave! The apartment is suited to families and couples alike, and would complete any trip to the beautiful city of Lucca!

Perth, Western AustraliaOutstanding Accommodation in Lucca
Left on 04/08/2010 for a stay in April 2008
We stayed at this unique apartment in Lucca for a week and the accommodation was excellent - very stylish, some great art work and very comfortable.
The apartment is conveniently located in Lucca which enabled us to roam over this beautiful city. Also included with the apartment was modern, underground parking within the apartment complex which is unique for an ancient walled city.
This enabled us to hire a vehicle and use Lucca as a base for exploring the surrounding Tuscany towns and attractions.
This apartment is highly recommended and we will be re-booking this accommodation when we return to Italy.

USAthe chicest place in town!
Left on 04/01/2010 for a stay in June 2009
My wife and I have rented various places in Lucca over the years and Libertas
is the best we've ever seen. The apartment is lovely with real furniture and real
art- Not Vital and Olivo Barbieri no less-and it's in a beautiful, quiet and very
convenient location. On top of that the Lucca parking hurtle is wiped out- this
place comes with a garage and a permit to get there! We were also very
pleasantly surprised to find the fridge stocked with some basics to get us off
to a good start. Needless to say we have found "our" place in Lucca. Finally! -

Irvine, California, USAAn Elegant Base for Exploration
Left on 03/29/2010 for a stay in May 2008
We found the Libertas apartement to be a bright, cheerful, comfortably
furnished, strategically located base for exploring on foot the wonders
of centuries old Lucca. Not only that, a short walk through a nearby
tunnel punctuating the city walls, brought us to the local train
station, allowing day tripping to Florence, Pisa and a coastal walk
along the cliffs of Cinqui Terra.
The Libertas amenaties, including
in door parking, a city parking pass, and easy access to exiting the
city walls made it easy for us to drive the beautiful country side and
explore the hill towns surrounding Lucca.
We highly recommend the
Libertas for a week or more comfortable stay.
