Villa San Stefano - Accommodation for 6 Adults plus children with a large swimming pool and with an outside dining area. The house is situated 7km from Lucca city centre near to the delightful town of Ponte a Moriano. The house is surrounded by countryside and olive trees. The house was originally built in 1665 and has now been restored with great care and converted to its original Tuscan style. The accommodation offers its guests a relaxing atmosphere and is an ideal base to discover the many cultural towns of Tuscany.

This house was ideal for our family. It is spacious enough for 5 people and is in good location if you have a car and like to be a little remote from the tourist centers.
The owners live in the neighboring house, but they had no problems finding the balance between allowing privacy and being available and helpful. They will leave you alone, but do anything to make you feel at home and for example tell you about local events.You can get by with English and a bit of sign language.
Finding the house was not difficult, but you have top pay attention to notice the entrance from the local road. You have to drive up a steep gravel road to get there, but you are rewarded at the top.
The house has a nice pool area. It is not directly next to the house, but if you are not walking impaired it is a short walk up the 20 steps and you are at a plateau with a nice view of the whole area.
The area seems very unspoilt and authentic. The local town Ponte a Moriano is a 2 minute drive away and has a few shops and cafes. We found only one open restaurant, so if you want to eat out you need to drive longer. We mostly went to Lucca to eat, where you get the full burst of tourist activity and plenty of choice. The drive to Lucca is around 15 minutes. The nearest supermarket is large - and perhaps 5 minutes away by car in Marlia.
The house is well situated for day trips around northern Tuscany being placed between Pisa and Florence, but there is also plenty to see closer by.
We enjoyed going to the Grotto del Vento an large underground cave which is around 1 hour's drive north of the house.
The owners alerted us to a local food fair at Palleroso a very small mountain town which was also to the north. A great local experience. If you like mountain views from atiny hamlet it is also worth seeing without the fair. For both trip you must be ready for narrow winding roads, where two cars can barely pass.
In summary, this house comes highly recommended. -

We all loved our week here. The property owners - Giuliana & her family live on the property and they were fantastic. For us it was the ideal place to meet up with 2 of our children plus their partners. We ate outside nearly every night in the covered area just outside the kitchen, we used the bbq most nights . The pool is fantastic and as the weather heated up we used it every day. It is right out in the countryside a good 20 minute walk from Ponte a Moriano so you need a car. We were not used to driving in Italy (but got used to it!!) - the directions given to reach the property need to be improved, for example leaving Lucca which road do you take??
The only negative is no wifi. -

Very nice place, great swimming pool, very nice people. Lots to see around the area and Lucca is just amazing. The only thing that was quite hard was to get there. I think people should be met at the village, otherwise it's extremely difficult to find the house. Overall great experience.
