A magical private cottage built on the rocks of Schooner Cove where eagles, osprey and seabirds fly by at eye level. Panoramic views from every window and the deck offers wonderful sunrises and sunsets.We'll tell you about this discreetly comfortable residence but first you should know of Stonehurst which is 10-minutes from the town of Lunenburg, a UNESCO Heritage Site.

Four of us shared this cottage -- there was ample room. We enjoyed the barbeque and the view from the dining table. The cottage was well-furnished with everything we needed. The location provides an ever-changing view as the tide and light changes. We liked the privacy. The one complaint we have is the state of the road. Because there had been rain, it was not possible to see what lay under some of the larger pools of water. We "bottomed out" a couple of times when going through those water-filled dips. We had a full-size car, so we can only imagine what it would have been like with a small car. A load of gravel would help a lot. We would rent this cottage again -- providing the road is fixed.

Amazingly heavy rains this summer washed out portions of the private drive, which is now being repaired. I am sorry for the inconvenience but am pleased that you enjoyed Nova Scotia and your stay at Schooner Cove.

Overall, we enjoyed our time at Schooner Cove. The cottage was fairly clean upon arrival, the kitchen was fairly well stocked,check-in was easy, the picturesque location was quiet and close to Lunenburg, and the contacts for problems or queries acted immediately when they received a request. There were a few things however, that we found did not meet our expectations. First of all, we truly thought we were on the wrong road. The 800m "road" in was awful; we were afraid the bottom of our car would be damaged due to the huge potholes. Secondly, though there was adequate furniture in the living room, some of it was dated and not too comfy. Lastly, the primed walls did not do justice to the beautiful architecture of the cottage itself. They need a coat of paint! The upstairs queen bed was very comfortable, but the twin beds downstairs were just Ikea frames with very thin mattresses.

The cottage is situated in an area of low shrubs and birch trees, with a beautiful view over a small, rock-bordered inlet. It is elegantly furnished, very spacious with light-filled rooms, and tastefully decorated, with one big sundeck.The town of Lunenburg is just 10 minutes away on a beautiful coastal road, after you have managed the not-always-easy-to-drive access road to the cottage. However, each time you arrive at the cottage,you feel refreshed by its atmosphere, its quietness and the light streaming through the large windows. Highly recommended.
