Location: Lutsen
Classic hand-hewn, square-log 4 bedroom, 3 bath cabin built in the old Finnish tradition on very private, wooded grounds. 5 acres of land to roam finding wildflowers in the woods or relaxing on the shelf-rock shoreline. This home has lots of atmosphere and character. Many family memories have been born there. The owners, who live out of the country and can't visit very often, encourage renters to enjoy their beloved Finn House. Pets are allowed with prior approval. Four night minimum thru May 1st.

We love Finn House. It's big & roomy - 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, sun porch, deck, big brick fireplace. Perfect for several folks or, like us, just two for spreading out & sprawling. We like that the house is older (1943) and that the families that own it respect the history of the house. Nice art. Nice furnishings of the era. Totally private. Easy access down to the lake with big rocks to walk on or to just sit and gaze and wonder. The location is excellent - in Lutsen, very close to a great walk on Oberg Mountain. Very well furnished kitchen. It's a sweet, sweet place.

The Finn house is a very charming cabin in the North Woods. It rests on a 3 acre secluded lot overlooking Lake Superior. The location is unbeatable. The Finn house is the kind of house that feels like your own family has owned it for decades. It has all of the comforts and charm of a family cabin. However, since it is not my family cabin, and we paid a lot of money to stay there, I do have several suggestions for the management. First of all, the beds need to be replaced. Particularly the double bed. The mattress was old and springy. Secondly, the bedding was very old and unfashionable. Our blue comforter had a stain on it. It was not the same bedding that was pictured above. In addition, the pillows were terrible. They were very hard and uncomfortable. If you plan to stay here, bring your own pillows and you will enjoy the experience much more. The views and the charm of the house more than make up for the less than enjoyable sleeping experience. The home is located close to many trails and restaurants. There was not a fire pit, which was disappointing. Previous guests had indicated that the Finn house once featured one. One of the showers was not functional. All in all, it was a great experience. Overall, I really enjoyed the Finn house.

Thanks for your review of Finn House. We will mention your concerns to the owner.
Most of our homes have different sets of bedding, so the bedding you see in a picture may not be the bedding that is on the bed during your stay.
When homes do not have a fire ring, you can almost always have a fire on the shoreline. This particular home has a large stack of firewood to be used exclusively outdoors.
We were unaware of any issues with the shower and we will talk to our cleaning and maintenance staff. We are happy to have someone fix items that do not work during your stay when we are made aware of the problem and if we can locate someone to fix it.

We have enjoyed Finn House twice and will visit again. The first was fall of 2009. This time it was over the Memorial Day weekend. I personally love Finn House's character. More rustic than a remodeled home... We were disappointed that we didn't have much firewood to use this time verses the last visit so we helped out a bit. (see photo) We were thrilled with the activity the lake waves showed us on Sunday night... the waves were huge and deafening! What a thrill! The only complaints: The accomodations were warm and inviting but a bit musty as if the home may have been closed up too long. They need a new fireplace screen and could use some gravel for the pathways to the shore as the tree roots are getting a bit dangerous. But we like to hike so we managed just fine. We will be back!

the Finn house was a perfect place to celebrate our eighty year old mother's birthday. plenty of room for our group of eight plus a dog. plenty of charm and character. plenty of privacy for couples. clean and stocked with plenty of firewood. the fireplace was a cozying focal point during inclement weather. the kitchen had all the necessary appliances (coffee grinder!). the stove turned out some lovely pies! just feet from the lake with lovely views from every room! even the bookshelf was well stocked. we will be back!
