Saloka Family
Minneapolis, MNWe loved it!
Left on 04/09/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Our family had a great vacation in this cottage. Right on Lake Superior, with nice big windows that wrap around two sides of the house, a kitchen with everything we needed in it, lots of games/puzzles/toys to keep the kids busy, nice big fireplace with lots of wood outside, and a gigantic table for everyone to spread out on. Also this cabin is very centrally located - right across the street from the Lutsen entrance, close to Bluefin Bay, Temperance and Cascade, and just down the road from Grand Marais. Would stay there again in a minute, and would definitely recommend to others.

This little cottage is like something from a storybook. The history surrounds you and continues to unfold as you stay.
The view invites you to be near the lake through sound and shared space. The fireplace is not only central but at night reflected in the windows you feel tucked in.
Driveway is rather steep and could be a fright to traverse in bad weather, but I would be wiling to carry all my stuff up and down that hill to return and experience this place again.
We loved it!
We took good care of it!
We will return - thank you for how you have created a beautiful blend of the past and present and invited others to come.

My first inclination when asked to write a review for the R and R was to say it was ugly and miserable. I selfishly didn't want it to become so popular that i wouldn't be able to get a booking in the years to come. But being an honest kind of person, I have to say it's lovely, charming, and filled with wabi sabi. A stay at the R and R is good for all that ails you. I should probably also mention the big stone fireplace, the well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, cushy sofas and, if you can pull yourself away from gazing at the lake, shelves full of books to read, and a cabinet full of games to play.

I don't want to say anything good about this cabin because I want to buy it and live there for the rest of my life! We stay at R&R twice a year for just over a week. Our Golden Retrievers accompany us. Is is far off HW 61 and the access road is up the hill. We easily trained our pups to stay down on the lakefront. This cabin has the best deck. You feel as if you are sitting right over the water. You will want for nothing from the warm wool blankets, books, games for all ages, to a great corkscrew and all you need in the kitchen. Please don't rent R&R or if you do, leave it as you found it, a wonderful, wonderful get-away from it all. No TV, limited cell phone service unless you go up to Lutsen. Not so fancy that you worry about damages, the furnishings are comfortable and fit a cabin to a tee! The property rental people are superb to work with. If anything is needed, they are right on it! Can't wait, we head there in just a few weeks! I never want to leave. Only downsides: 1 bath (but NICE) and the fireplace smokes quite a bit. The driveway would be pretty steep in snow unless you have a 4WD.

Madison, WIHeaven on the North Shore
Left on 09/18/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We have rented a lot of cabins on the Superior Shore, but this was one of the best. We felt like we were staying with family. Great equipped kitchen, great art and library, great location and a feel of family. We could not have asked for more other than maybe better beds, but so it goes in the North woods...hard to find. Otherwise absolutely a wonderful spot with nothing but welcoming features. Thank you to the family for sharing their special place. It had a great beach, deck, games, yard and lots of room for a family. We liked being able to bring our dog. The driveway is steep, but it gets you away from the road. It was well maintained.
We had trouble with the fridge and Cascade rental was excellent in providing us with service. No complaints at all. We would love to stay there again anytime. -

Rochester MNBeautiful place, beautiful experience
Left on 09/06/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Cascade calls this " an adorable log-sided cabin", but that makes it sound kitschy or quaint. It really should be called "a beautiful cabin, inspired by the nature around it". It is well-designed, and art inspired by nature is in every room. The beach is secluded and you feel as if you're on the ocean shore (but we had no trouble getting aAa to come when our van wouldn't start, long story...). All in all, a great place to stay and a good jumping off place for the nearby parks.

Booking, check in and out were efficient.
The home was comfortable... bed on lake side was small for 2.
Loved all the windows, views of the lake. The deck was fabulous, (wished it was warmer, and more sun!?!)
The location was easy to get to Hiking trails, as well as walking on the rocks along the shore.
Loved the Wood burning FP. (had a little problem with smoke entering room, yes flue was open)
1 bathroom was fine for 2 people, cannot imagine for 6 with just 1 bathroom.Response from Cascade Vacation Rentals, LLC - 05/01/2012

Hayfield, MNWe really enjoyed our long weekend at R&R;.
Left on 03/20/2012 for a stay in February 2012
Loved the view from the cabin and hearing the waves. Had everything we needed and expected. We spent time hiking, snowshoeing, and shopping. Would definitely stay again. Only downside, the smoke didn't go up the chimney too well in the fireplace with flue open so didn't have many fires.

Great cozy cabin with a beautiful view of Lake Superior. Lots of character and a great space for a group to cook and enjoy the fire place. It would also be nice in the summer with a big deck to sit outside on.

Left on 03/08/2011 for a stay in November 2010
Seriously, this lovely, private cabin is so comfortable that we don't want to share all the good things about R&R;! There is easy access to a lovely shelf rock shoreline. A kayak is available if you have the skill to take it out on the Big Lake.
Furnishings are comfy, in good condition, but durable. Kitchen is well stocked with all you need. Owners are lovely to leave basic condiments. Wood burning fireplace works really well. A great eclectic book collection. Sunning on the deck (which we did not do in November) is just perfect. A great place for dogs, far enough off the road that you needn't worry about leaving them off leash.
Walking on Cascade Beach Road is a nice option. Convenient to Lutsen Resort and Lutsen ski area. Nice location between Tofte and Grand Marais.
You won't like R&R.; No one does. That's why it is rented almost constantly from June - October. We have rented R&R; twice each year in the fall and spring for @ 9 years. I'd probably sell my first born child for this place. Please don't rent it when we want it and if you are a summer renter, some day, give us a chance for a week!
