Minneapolis, MinnesotaMuch too expensive for what you get--will not go back
Left on 11/09/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Beds: 2nd worst one I have ever tried to sleep in, over 50 years. (Checked them all--hard as the rocks on the Shore.) Took 3 trips to the chiropractor and massage therapist to get my back fixed.
Dirty: Floor turned my white socks dark grey. Dead flies on windowsills and fly smears on windows hadn't been washed. The area around the toilet smelled like urine.
Poorly furnished/laid out: Same dull knives and rusting or flaking teflon pans I could get for a third of the price along the Shore. The microwave took 4 minutes to heat a single cup of water, plus the warped shelf it's on made it vibrate quite loudly. Yes, there is a fireplace...smack dab in the middle of the windows facing the lake where it blocks the view.Response from Lutsen Lodging Company - 12/07/2012

I'm saddened by the review and I'm apologize for your experience. Bailey's on the Lake is one of our most popular rentals and a majority of our activity is by return guests. Matter-of-fact, it's difficult to find available during the season (shoulder seasons there are openings). Unfortunately cluster flies happen in the Northwood’s and we do our best eradicate their limited activity. And yes, they leave smears and we attempt to get them all. I apologize that served as a distraction. We hire a professional window cleaning company twice each year, unfortunately they arrived a week after your stay. At the end of each season (spring/summer/fall and winter) - we reevaluate each property. The knifes were in fact dulled by summer activity and all pots and pans were scheduled for replacement which has subsequently occurred. As for the beds, I offer my apologies. If this was a reoccurring complaint by guests I would examine replacing the beds but that has not been the case. I've not had the complaint voiced. I'm sorry the beds did not work for you. As for the views, please check our website - Baiilye's offer some of the best views on the entire north shore. Most find the fireplace complimentary to their experience. Again, I'm sorry this did not work for you. Poorly furnished, boy, again check our pictures - this place is very cool. I'm sorry it did not work for you.

Plymouth, MinnesotaLovely view, but falls short in many ways
Left on 10/15/2012 for a stay in October 2012
The view is nice, and you can hear the waves crash etcetera. But the beds were _very_ hard. My wife was unable to enjoy our trip due to back pain, and just got back from the chiropractor. The kitchen was poorly equipped, with very dull knives, teflon pots that were rusty and flaking, no soup bowls or smaller plates. The microwave was very underpowered.
The standard of housekeeping was poor; there were lots of spiderwebs, the bottoms of our white socks immediately turned grey from walking around on the hardwood floor, the windows hadn't been washed recently. There's a sunny spot on one window where the houseflies like to hang out, where evidently several past guests had squashed flies with the inadequate flyswatter, since the window was last cleaned.
For the price, we expected something better. -

We enjoyed 2 lovely ski days at Lutsen, and my hubby XC after. We love this place and try to get here at least every other year. You cannot build this close to the lake anymore. and the fireplace is awesome!

The views are tremendous and the area is spectacular. We had a few issues and Lutsen Lodging Company took great care of us and acted very promptly to our calls. They treated us as important. We would book this property again. The fireplace is beautiful and the home very comfortable. We didn't do a lot of cooking but the kitchen was well appointed and there were extra blankets for us to use as well. Make sure to go visit Deb and Nan at The Lockport in Lutsen too. Great food and great service by them. Order the Pastie!!

CHaska, MNVacationing with a bald eagle.
Left on 07/10/2011 for a stay in June 2011
A bald eagle flew within 15 ft of me while I was sitting on the balcony of Baileys. The location was convenient, views were superior. Short drive to the Lake Superior Hiking Trail. Relaxing 1960s era cabin with some period furniture, functional kitchen, comfortable new beds.
