“Villa Bahri - Paradise” Villa Bahri is quite an oasis of tranquility. Nestled on a quiet street amid fields on the west bank of the Nile, the private garden is lovely and you can while away the hours if you like in the garden or on the private balconies. The interior is stylish and clean. Every modern convenience is available. Yasmina and ahmed gave us the run of the place and started by 'welcome home' and indeed we felt at home. Mohammed worried about our every need and loves to visit. He took one of us on a motorcycle ride. Mahmoud will drive you wherever you wish to go. They will provide any touring that you need, or let you relax and do your own thing. The villa is just a short walk to restaurants, shops, bicycle rental, the ferry, a great pastry shop, and most of all- really most of all, a wonderfully friendly neighborhood of kind and generous people. A week is hardly enough; some of our 'site touring' plans got thrown out the window to make room for our new neighborhood friend's hospitality. You can't go wrong with Villa Bahri. Thanks Yasmina, Ahmed, Mohamed, and Mahmoud!

About Luxor

Formerly known as Thebes, the capital city of Ancient Egypt, Luxor is considered "the world's greatest open-air museum." It is home to several of the country's greatest attractions, including the Museum of Mummification on its East Bank and the Valley of Queens on the West Bank which features the tomb and treasures of Queen Nefertari. You can tour many of these spectacular ruins by land or air, both of which are an unforgettable experience. In addition to all of the archeological and historical riches you will find in Luxor, the city also provides a wealth of arts, entertainment, shopping, and dining options as well as a buzzing nightlife. Outdoor activities run the gamut from hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and more. For visitors new to the area, one of the most spectacular attractions to see is the Winter Palace in Luxor, Egypt. It is truly awe-inspiring.

Here are a few additional suggestions of things to do in Luxor:

  • The Temple of Karnak: Originally known as Ipet-Isut in ancient times, this complex took pharaohs more than 2000 years to construct. It is dedicated to the Theban triad of Amun, Khonsu, and Mut.
  • Luxor Temple: This temple was constructed by Amenhotep III with additions by Ramses II during the 18th century. It was built to honor the celebration of the yearly Opet Festival, which included the procession of the Amun, Khonsu, and Mut statues from Karnak to Luxor. It features elegant columns and exquisite, expansive open courts.
  • The Valley of Kings: There are over 60 royal tombs in this ancient cemetery of Egypt's New Kingdom rulers. The most famous of which, the Tomb of Tutankhamen, was found in pristine condition back in 1922.
  • The Luxor Museum: This museum contains a great collection of statues and artifacts found in sites in and around Luxor. Some of these include a large pink granite head of Amenhotep III, Hathor's gilded head from Tutankhamen's tomb, and Queen Nefertiti.
  • The Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari: Dedicated to Queen Hatshepsut, the longest-ruling female leader of Ancient Egypt, this temple is a mortuary one. It is decorated with reliefs, sphinxes, and statues that have been painstakingly restored through the years.
  • Valley of the Nobles: This valley contains the Theban tombs of the Nobles and it spans over a heavily populated area south of the Valley of the Kings.

A vacation rental in Luxor offers the best of accommodations in the Nile River Valley. A villa near the water or a condo in the city center can provide all of the comforts of home and all of the modern amenities you need.

So you want a relaxing holiday ?

What a lovely sailing boat . All your needs catered for and the attention to detail is so good. The staff are fantastic and so quick at providing coffee/tea when asked. The variety of local cuisine was very good. The weather was perfect and not too hot with the cooling breeze of sailing. The rooms are so comfortable and the air con worked so well, although it is not really needed at this time of year.see more
VILLA BAHRI 5 star apartment, rural West Bank NOW WITH POOL
"Heaven on Earth', or should I say, "Heaven in Egypt"!

I stayed at Villa Bahri for 4 weeks over Christmas 2012. The owners were extremely helpful, in fact, nothing was too much trouble for them. They recommended places to eat, organised taxis and a boat trip for us, and directed us to the best places to buy jewellery, papyrus pictures and other souvenirs. The villa is clean and spacious and very nicely decorated in traditional Egyptian style. It was really useful having constant internet access. The garden is beautiful, and I could have spent more time in it had there not been so many wonderful things to do. There are several different seating areas, depending on how much sun you prefer. Eating breakfast on the balcony every morning is one of my treasured memories. The surrounding area teems with interesting places: Egyptian restaurants, archeological sites, boat trips on the Nile, museums...and the Valley of the Kings is just down the road. The local Egyptian people were friendly and welcoming and always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. The West Bank is much quieter and more rural than the city of Luxor, which was nice to visit, but I loved coming 'home' across the river in the evening to the peaceful setting of banana fields and palm trees. I would definitely stay at Villa Bahri again and highly recommend it.see more
