Elegant 900sqft apartment on Lyon's peninsula

The apartment is like a townhouse as it has no-one living below (garage/storage) and no-one living above (roof and attic). It has 3 exposures, one on rue Vaubecour (one of the living room windows), one on rue de Conde (living room and both bedrooms), and one on the courtyard (entrance, wc and bathroom). The dining room and kitchen have operable skylights.

The apartment has a small entrance with a door to the WC and a door to the bathroom (tub, sink, washer/dryer).

The living room has a door and can be transformed in...to a third very large bedroom. It is furnished with 1 queen size sofa bed, 2 armchairs, a table with a cable outlet for TV and WIFI, a coffe table and an antique secretary.

The bedroom windows are sound proofed. The master bedroom has a queen size bed with a posturopedic mattress and a full wall of built-in closets. The middle room has 2 single beds (that can be put together into a king size bed).

The kitchen has 2 skylights. One with a manual opening and the other (very high up) controlled with a remote control. It is equipped with a large refrigerator, a 4-burner stove, a gas range, a dishwasher, microwave, electric kettle, coffee machine. It has a breakfast table with a bench and lots of storage.

The dining room has a very large square skylight, also electrically operated, with a retractable shade for hot summer days.

The apartment has been remodeled 6 years ago and is periodically repainted and enhanced. It has its own heating furnace.

No need to say, it is full of light and very agreeable.

The building is on the quay de Saone, so you see the river from the bedrooms and living room windows.

The entrance is up a flight of steps, on a balcony overlooking the building courtyard. The courtyard has a huge round planter in its midst and is a place where sometimes very young children play, weather permitting.

Our street, Rue Vaubecour, is village-like, with grocery stores moving their fruit and vegetable trays on their store fronts everyday, nice butcher, very popular bakery, delicious pastry/chocolate store, wine shop, shoe repair, key maker, and many antique stores. It is parallel to Rue Victor Hugo, a pedestrian street going from Place Bellecour to Gare de Perrache (Lyon has 2 train stations: Part-Dieu/North, the main one, and Perrache/South). Rue de Conde, our corner street, goes from the Saone to the Rhone. In the middle of it is Place Carnot, where you have a very large farmer market twice or three times a week. It is less than 5mn by foot from the apartment. There are countless bus stops in the neighborhood, and a metro station nearby on rue Victor Hugo/Place Ampere. The Gare de Perrache nearby is also the central station for buses, metros and trolleys.

It is an easy walk away to Place Bellecour, Lyon's epicenter, the Old Lyon, a very touristic Middle Age/Renaissance district, or the University of Lyon, rue Claude Bernard.Read more

Additional Location Information

The district of Ainay in the second arrondissement of Lyon peninsula is known for its 9th century basilica and village atmosphere. Rue Victor Hugo, a pedestrian street parrallel to Rue Vaubecour, our street, runs from Place Carnot, a large square with Farmer markets three times a week and Christmas markets in winter. The boulangerie on our street is reputed for its bread and pastries. The area is also known for its contemporary home design and antique stores.

  We spent an incredible month in Lyon (September 2012). The visit was enhanced by staying in this apartment. It had a wonderful location -- not on the beaten path but close enough to make walking for all the everyday necessities easy. Public transportation was also within easy walking distance making the entire city easy to reach. The apartment is just a short block from the Saone River which made for lovely morning and evening walks. Since we both like to cook, we really enjoyed the kitchen; fully equipment and large enough for both of us to work at the same time. And, since the local food markets are so good we cooked almost every meal in the apartment. We hated to leave!

  Fantastic location, handy to everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 36 Rue Vaubecour, Lyon.The facilities were suffecient to our needs family needs.
  I have no problem recommending it and, if we go back to Lyon, we'll definitely be staying again.
