Description from the owner

Are you looking for a 2BR oceanview condo in Maui by a sandy beach and an easy 15 minutes from the airport? Stop looking. Just 120 feet from the shoreline of Maalaea Bay, this 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit has the kind of view that you were hoping for when you decided to take this trip. Very likely it's even better than what you expected.

You'll also be pleased with the location of this condo on the island. On a low-traffic road that ends at a park just 500 feet farther down, the building is ideally situated to avoid the noise and bustle that are too common in condo complexes that abut busy roads.

Now about that view: Looking through...Read more

      Comfortable and convenient

Left on 03/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We greatly enjoyed our month in this condo: the spectacular view, the quieter community away from the main tourist enclaves, the central location and the good value of the condo. As others have reported, the owners have provided many conveniences, from blenders for rummy drinks to water toys.

We thought the pool was small, but who needs a pool in Maui? We observed that children were the main users of the pool. The ocean immediately in front of the condo is relatively calm and we enjoyed snorkelling there. Though much of the coral is dead, the fish were great.

Be aware that one does not see the sunset over the water in Maalaea, and that you would be in the windiest part of that side of the island. These are not "deal-breakers", but it's good to know the drawbacks in any property. We never needed air conditioning, but sometimes we were tired of the noise of the wind. Areas further south have less wind, so we often went to beaches in that direction.

We are pleased that this couple enjoyed what our unit has to offer. Re. the wind: Since we do have A/C, we know that we always have the option of closing doors and windows if the trade winds engage in too much trading. We rarely close up, but each set of renters has their own preferences. Re. the sunset: We get reflected colors off the clouds (see our last photo taken from our building), but we don't have a view of the sun directly setting at the horizon. Sunrise can be beautiful, as viewed from our lanai or on the beach (see next to last photo).

Fabulous Condo IN Maui's Best Kept Secret Location!

Left on 11/04/2012 for a stay in October 2012

We just returned from Maui and this condo was fantastic!
The amenities were just as described- they have thought of everything- fully stocked kitchen- coolers, beach chairs, snorkel gear, boogie boards to use at the beach. Very nice furnishings- fast internet- wonderful bathrooms with remodeled tile/granite showers. Pool was great- outdoor Bbq's. The beach here is so gorgeous- very quiet- felt like a private beach- a nice switch from the hectic Kihei- Lahaina areas. Centrally located- you are never that far from any place on the island. I would definately recommend this condo to friends and family. I can't wait to return myself!

You might suspect that we paid this reviewer to write this glowing report, but we didn't. They were apparently genuinely pleased with everything about Mort's Port, and wanted to share their enthusiasm with the traveling public. We are grateful for busy people taking the time to write reviews. M & S.

Oceanview Condo is beautiful, well-appointed, and comfortable.

Left on 05/30/2012 for a stay in April 2012

The highlight of our Hawaiian visit definitely was our stay at the condo. Beautifully located, quiet, well-furnished, immaculate, and excellent in all respects, the condo was perfect for our exploration of Maui while providing all the comforts of home and more. To make the stay relaxing and fun, Sue and Mort had thought of everything--from snorkel equipment to coffee grinder to walkie-talkies to guide books and maps. The cool breeze and the breath-taking ocean view from the lanai alone are worth the trip.

Nice to know that the walkie-talkies (so much more civilized than yelling down to someone in the courtyard) and coffee grinder are appreciated. We have found over the years that if we add to the condo things that we like to use, others will enjoy them too. Happy to know that your stay at Mort's Port was the highlight of your trip to the islands.

      Great Place to Stay

Left on 10/31/2011 for a stay in October 2011

This was a great place to stay. You can arrive with just the essentials, because everything you need is available at this condo: washer/dryer, beach chairs and towels, etc. Their attention to detail shows they want their guests to enjoy their stay. The condo decor gives it a cozy home feeling. The recliners in the living room are great to come back to after a day of exploring. You can recline and take in the relaxing breeze and the sound of the waves just a few yards away.
As the other reviews say: The condo is centrally located, the complex is quiet, there is convenient parking, an elevator and a great view and access to the beach.

We are always pleased to read that guests have no complaints about their stay at Mort's Port, and we welcome return visits by those who appreciate the "cozy home feeling." We're sure that this reviewer didn't mean "cozy" in the sense of small size, the way realtors sometimes use the term. The unit has approx. 1000 sq. ft. of living space, and most of our guests--like this reviewer--love the living they experience there. M & S

      Great place to stay

Left on 08/09/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We had a wonderful stay in "Mort's Port" on Maui. The location was centrally located and easy to find. The condo was well stocked with kitchenware and beach toys like boogie boards, masks and snorkels. We appreciated having a selection of Cd's to choose from, including the guide for the "Road to Hana". We walked to the Maui aquarium which was nearby as was our sailboat to Molokini. The easy access to the beach was appreciated.

Mort and Sue were a pleasure to work with, they were most accommodating for a complicated international schedule and varying flight plans. We would certainly stay here again if and when we return to Maui.

      A Maui Gem

Left on 07/29/2011 for a stay in June 2011

I grew up on Oahu and was excited to take my family of four - including twenty-one and sixteen-year old boys - to Maui this summer. After perusing countless reviews, pictures, and prices, I selected Mort's Port. It was a great choice!
The ocean views are fantastic and once again falling asleep nightly to the sound of surf was a dream come true. The grounds are beautifully manicured with grass, swaying palms, plumeria and orchids. Pulling a lounge chair up under a tree next to the beach to take a nap and walking on the expanse of beach were daily treats. The complex is also pleasingly quiet at night.
The biggest plus is the central location of this complex. You can easily get to almost anyplace on the island from here. It's just minutes to Kihei where you find abundant shopping, dining, surf schools (in which my boys delighted), and beaches. The marina where you depart on Molokini snorkeling trips (a must-do), turtle, dolphin, or whale-watching is just blocks away. It is also an easy drive to Lahaina and Kaanpali. The views of Haleakala and the upcountry lights at night are also spectacular.
The unit is beautifully decorated in island-style decor and all the amenities are provided: snorkeling gear, boogie boards, coolers, Hawaiian music CDs, Dvds, cooking utensils, laundry detergent, etc. All we needed to do was provide the food!
The one drawback of this complex is the amount of wind this part of the island gets. We had to contend with a lot of blowing sand, and the ash from the nearby sugar cane fields they were burning for harvest. This prevented us from using the lanai (patio) as much as we would have liked, and we needed to clean the table and chairs every time we wanted to sit out there. We also had a problem with the lock, which the Mortenson's fixed immediately by having it replaced. Very responsive!
If you want a beautiful setting, convenient location, comfort, great prices in a pricey place, and attentive owners, then Mort's Port in Maalaea is it!

Thanks for your most thorough review. We do try to be "very responsive," as you have noted, when we learn of a problem. (What helped us get the front door lock replaced immediately after you called was Maui Lock's prompt service.) Unfortunately, what we can't do anything about is the Maui snow, as it's creatively referred to on the island. Our proximity to sugar cane fields accounts for the relative quiet of the Maalaea area, but it also means that several times a year the ash is blown our way after a burn. We never know exactly when that will happen, but it is rare. Even more rare is the wind being strong enough to blow sand around on our beach. We have not experienced that, and we are sorry to learn that it happened while you were there. We're glad that you were able to grab our beach equipment and head to nearby beaches where the trades weren't so strong at that time. Please come back to stay in our condo unit that you have tagged as a gem. Mahalo from Mort and Sue

      A Quality Place to Stay

Left on 05/26/2011 for a stay in May 2011

The view was fantastic and there were many places to visit on the island from this central location. The condo has a washer and dryer, so you do not need to bring extra clothes. The rooms were large and very comfortable. You feel like you are at home, but you look out at the ocean and listen to the waves breaking on shore. We hated to leave.

      Believe your eyes!

Left on 11/14/2010 for a stay in March 2010

We stayed at the condo with our two boys, ages 17 & 20 during spring break. They enjoyed having their own room and bath. The pictures are very accurate. Our plane landed at dusk and by the time we got to the condo it was dark. We could hear the ocean but couldn't see anything. I hit the floor at the crack of dawn and yanked open the lanai doors and was absolutely awestruck! It was gorgeous. There were binoculars on the table and we watched whales from the lanai every day. You could actually see them with the naked eye, but the binoculars brought them up close and personal. We loved the central location on the island and being out of the extreme crowded touristy areas. It felt like we were living there instead of visiting. The pool was very nice, the grounds are immaculately kept, and access to the beach and ocean is wonderful. We walked on the beach every day. Our boys bought multi-day tickets to the aquarium and walked there. We also used the snorkel equipment and boogie boards that the owners had in the condo. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Great idea to buy multi-day passes for your teenage sons and let them walk (about 10 min.) to the Maui Ocean Center whenever they wanted to. It really is a top-notch aquarium with endless wonders. We especially enjoy the luminous jellyfish tank and the walk-through shark exhibit.

a great place to be for active vacationers

Left on 01/27/2010 for a stay in December 2009

My sons, aged 21 and 16, and I spent the week after Christmas at the Mortensons' condo in Maalaea. My sons are very active and adventurous and it turned out to be the perfect staging place for lots of adventures. They went surfing in Lahaina, ziplining and hiking at Haleakala, cliff-jumping at the Seven Sacred Pools, and snorkeling at Molikini Crater. All of theses trips and more were easily accessible from centrally located Maalaea. There were great restaurants within walking distance from the condo. The condo was exceptionally well decorated and organized and the view was great. Who could ask for more?

Our every need was met....and then some!

Left on 11/11/2009 for a stay in October 2009

We prefer to stay in condos rather than hotels, mostly because we prefer to "eat in" rather than "out". Sue and Mort's condo was probably the best furnished condo we have stayed in.

Whether you are a gourmet cook, or just simple cooks such as ourselves, everything was there to enhance your cooking experience.

The quality of the furnishings, including linens was top notch, which I personally appreciate.

I was amazed at the many recreational supplies that were there - everything you need for the beach, snorkeling, boogey-boarding, beach towels, cooler. They even offer a laptop computer for your use.

It seems Sue and Mort have thought of everything to ensure the comfort of their guests.

The view from the condo was great, it was quiet, and peaceful. We saw people swimming and boogey-boarding at the beach which is just a short walk from the condo.

Maalaea is known to be windy but we found it refreshing after returning from warmer parts of the island. It was never an issue.

In my opinion, this condo suits the needs of seniors (like us) as well the the vacationing family. It is centrally located and convenient to everything. I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates quality and value for the dollar spent.

P.S. Parking is right below your condo and there is an elevator - a big plus for us.

In 2010 we decided to no longer leave a computer in the unit for guest use. Of course, anyone can bring their own laptop or iPad and take advantage of the easy-to-access free WiFi anywhere on condo grounds. After a renter suggested that we provide an in-unit safe for storing electronic devices, we added that amenity. We welcome suggestions from past guests and would-be's as to what features could be added to maintain the high level of comfort and convenience that we aspire to provide for our vacationers. My husband, 2 adult daughters and I spent 10 sun soaked days at this condo. The view of the grounds, pool and ocean were amazing. The location was ideal for seeing Maui, walking to local shops and restaurants, and accessing the airport for inter-island travel. The unit was immaculate and nicely appointed. The halls, elevators, and pool were likewise spotless. The other residents were friendly and welcoming. We loved everything about it and hope to return someday. We have highly recommended the unit to several of our friends.
If you really want to experience the beauty and life of Maui, this is a great place to stay.
