This holiday home was architecturally designed to capture the magnificent water views across Moreton Bay, to the mainland and hinterland beyond. Fourteen metres of floor-to-ceiling glass, slides open and ensures you enjoy spectacular sunsets from the living and dining rooms.. perhaps while sipping a chilled champagne or enjoying a glass of cold beer. Louvre windows and overhead ceiling fans allow for the cooling island breezes to circulate and flow throughout the open-plan house.
Upstairs, the master suite is an open-plan bedroom and ensuite area, encouraging "time out" for adults. The bed faces the waters of Moreton Bay, so why not laz...e in bed or read the Sunday papers while soaking up the wonderful view. Once again, floor to ceiling glass opens from the bedroom onto your own private deck - have breakfast or coffee there, while your friends or family use the one downstairs.
RELAX AND UNWIND:
The second bedroom downstairs has a queen size bed and also enjoys the same spectacular view as the living area. Large glass doors slide back and open onto the shaded deck - why not borrow one of our many books, lay back and relax on your deck chair, or even settle for an afternoon snooze.
Preparing lunch or dinner has taken on new meaning..... enjoy the expansive view from the kitchen and utilise the new stainless steel appliances. BBQ on the deck, and when the sun sets over the bay, the night lights of Redland Bay sparkle to illuminate the mainland across the water.. quite a spectacular sight.
No loud traffic noises to interrupt your peace and quiet... only kookaburras, rosellas and sea eagles gliding along searching for their evening meal.
FOR ACTIVE PEOPLE:
For those wanting a little more activity, Macleay Island has a public golf course, a bowls club and some quiet sandy beaches to explore. For the fisherman, throw in a line at one of many local beaches or fishing spots - you can hire a boat for a half or full day.
Why not "Island Hop" - grab your backpack, water bottle, some lunch and jump onto one of the local ferries to explore the other Southern Moreton Bay Islands of Lamb, Russell and Karragarra - ferries leave each of the local jetties, on a regular basis. Guests who enjoy bike riding, have borrowed the Mountain Bikes & helmets, also taking them to the islands - they can get a little excercise and explore urther afield at the same time.
For those who like to see the island from a different vantage point, canoe and kayak hire is available on Macleay - peace and tranquility can be found while paddling amongst the dolphins & turtles of Moreton Bay!Read more

Additional Location Information
Macleay Island 'is' an island as such and can be reached by either a ferry service or a barge service; the ferry transports passengers only, while the barge service transports passengers with their cars. Both these services operate from 7am-6pm, 7 days a week from Redland Bay, the closest land point to Macleay Island. Redland Bay itself is approx a 45 minute drive from Brisbane CBD and the Gold Coast.
Most things you require while staying can be purchased, as the island boasts 2 supermarkets, a butcher, a local baker, a fresh seafood shop and a take away pizza place. If you prefer eating out, then there's a fabulous restaurant, a local pub and both the Golf Club and Bowls Clubs offer bistros for dining.

Myself and my wife - UK residents - visit Brisbane each year to see our aussie son and his family. After looking after three hyperactive grandchildren for 3 weeks, we needed time off and were delighted to find out about Sunset Waters.
In short, the accomodation and location are excellent. Quality fittings and good comfort that would normally attract a much higher cost, were it more readily accessible.
In practice it is easy to get the vehicle ferry (= barge in aussiespeak). There is a rapid passenger catamaran if you need to get back to the mainland - as we did to go to the Gabba for the cricket.
The neighbours are a big bonus and are a font of help and advice.
Macleay will appeal to fishermen and yachties. There is some beach around. We were struck by how friendly and hospitable people were - at the bowling club and golf club especially.
The lifestyle is simple and unsophisticated. But just to sit on that deck, watch the nature, and the sun go down... just what we wanted.
