HomesForTravellers Madrid Plaza de España 1. Where the Gran Via ends Plaza Espana begins. Surrounded by many of the buildings that until not so long showed off for being the higher ones of the city. Those skyscrapers share the scene together with historical and traditional monuments in Madrid such as the sculptures honouring Cervantes that represent his classical characters of Don Quijote and Sancho Panza in the beautiful Plaza España gardens. A five minutes walk through the Gran Via is enough to reach the most centric point of the city from which you get to Puerta del Sol and the emblematic Plaza Mayor. Berkeley, CAComfy, good location, great city.

This was a comfortable two bedroom flat for us for four days. It's very close to Gran Via, the Royal Palace, and if you walk up the street to Plaza Santo Domingo there is a Cervezeria called Domingo's which had the most delicious tapas I've ever tried and which seemed very authentic to me. We also found a small green grocer up there and brought some food back and cooked at the apartment. The only thing that was a down about this place was that it's on the 3rd floor (which is actually 4 floors up because the ground floor is 0) and no elevator. You decide if you can deal with that, if you can, then this is a great place to stay for a reasonable price.

The apartment as such is nice, it only miss noise isolation as the street and neighbourhood is extremely noisy. Probably ok for people going out every day but definitely not for a family.

The appartment was fine, clean and as described in the website. One bed was really noisy but overall the appartment is a great value. Really central, we did a lot by feet. Check-in was fine but the person was a bit late. The WiFi didn't work but as we weren't only there for sleep it was not usefull for us to call the person in charge of this. 4 on 5 stars

Left on 02/08/2011 for a stay in November 2010
My family had never been to Madrid before and this apartment was in the perfect location for us to be able to see everything that we wanted to. We stayed for a little over a week, so it afforded us more freedom than a hotel would have. I would highly recommend it!

Apartment was as advertised. Any negatives were a function of an apartment too small for five people. Apt was clean, well equipped, close to everything. Would recommend it for four people or less.

This apartment is in a great location and comfortably accomodates 4. However, there are many stairs, so it is an effort to reach it with luggage. Also there are many things that need attention, (bathroom doors which do not lock or coffee pots without handles, shower that does not drain. Heat is a problem as the ac is inadequate and because there is a lot of road noise it is impossible to sleep with windows open. I would recommend this apartment for young travellers that are looking to double up and save some money and can sleep through anything. Staff did not address the problems that were pointed out.

Buffalo, NYInteresting location and decent apartment
Left on 08/02/2010 for a stay in July 2010
The location was pretty good, except that there was a "Men's club?" right across the street. The apartment itself was fine, given the modest price. A few minor items could have been fixed and would have made things better: such as the coffee maker (an important item in the morning!!). Overall, a reasonable place to stay for the money.

We choose the apartment because of its location; it is very central running parallel to the Gran Via, in a street that can only be described as a ‘mini’ china town. Communications with the agent were good prior to the visit and our rep turned up reasonably on time to show us to the apartment. Unfortunately on immediate inspection we noted the television did not work, however our rep replaced this within the hour. The apartment is very small, 3 of us managed okay but any more I think would be a struggle. I could not see 6 people managing in this apartment. There was no welcome pack, which would have been appreciated as we had had a long journey. The apartment though not unclean was a bit scruffy; it would benefit from a good clean, a lick of paint and some new fabrics. There is a night club opposite the apartment with a flashing sign, which can seen in the bedrooms, through the curtains into the early hours of the morning. The street itself is noisy into the early hours and the flat would benefit from consideration regarding ways of reducing this. There is a police station just up the road; however the police stand outside the station which seems to lead to groups of other people standing around talking to them, a strange sight to our British eyes. An important considering for some people booking this apartment is that one of the bedrooms does not have a door, there is a thin curtain and the room leads directly onto the kitchen/sitting room area.

The apartment was very cozy. The location is great. There are two Metro stations that are less than a 5 minute walk from the apartment. Major attractions, such as Sol and the Royal Palace are a 10 minute walk from the apartment. The apartment was clean and all the appliances were in working order. The Homes for Travellers staff was great. They made the check-in and check-out process simple. The street noise, especially at night, can be loud. Guests may want to consider bringing ear plugs to ensure a restful night sleep. The curtains aren't effective at keeping it dark in the apartment at night.

Left on 05/13/2010 for a stay in April 2010
The apartment was nice and clean and up to date. Took us a few days to figure out how to work the shower properly as we wernt shown and the tap was hiding behind a curtain.
The area was good very central and near to shops and bars and restaurants and the metro. The area was noisy so if you are there on holiday and will be enjoying evenings out it would be reccommended but we were there for work and going to bed /getting up early was difficult.
There is a flashing light on a club right outside the windows and if you are a light sleeper it is annoying we used extra sheets to cover up the windows -

Ventura, CAHFT Madrid Plaza de España 1 Apartment
Left on 05/06/2010 for a stay in April 2010
We stayed at this apartment for 2 nights in April 2010 and it was the low point
of our trip. On the plus side, the location is very central to the charming
hustle and bustle of the city. The apartment itself was very dirty. So dirty in
fact that the large spider webs in the corners of the bedrooms were black
(similar to the fuzzy mold that grows on yogurt when left too long in the frig).
And the black mold on the shower curtain was unacceptable. It does not take
much effort to purchase a new one. I really do not know what the "cleaning
fee" is used for because it is certainly NOT used for cleaning the apartment.Response from Homes For Travelers - 05/06/2010

Dear Mr. Radillo,
Thank you very much for letting us know about the cleaning of the apartment. We are very sorry for that, and you must know that we already has changed the curtain in the bath and that we will change the Cleaning Company, because this point is very important for us.
Only, I would like to tell you that if you had told this during your stay, we would have sent to the cleaing lady to clean the apartment for your stay, because we prefer to know the complaints during the clients stay to be able to solve them.
Best regards,
Raquel Roman

The apartament was very good. It was clean, warm and calm. The police is at the same street. It is very near the metro station and near Gran via, a happy street with a lot of restaurants, coffees and shoping. The who received us was very kind and attencious. WE HAVE TO MUCH FUN IN THAT APARTAMENT.

MaltaIdeal pied-a-terre in Madrid
Left on 02/11/2010 for a stay in October 2009
We were a group of 4 friends and found this place ideal. Very close to everything and within walking distance to most of Madrid's sights. The apartment is small but equipped with nearly everything you need.Decor is nice and modern. A/C is a bonus, and the free wifi is great! A car is not recommended because parking spaces are non-existent, and carparks are extortionate (28euro for an overnight!)
I would highly recommend this place as a cheaper alternative to a hotel, and it's more fun with friends. Perhaps a few basics (such as sugar, salt/pepper and dishclothes) could be left there, because we had to buy themourselves.
