Description from the manager
This spacious two bedroom apartment has a personality all its own. Its corner location and six balconies provide it with a great deal of light and picturesque views of the castizo streets below. The decor is a harmonious blend of the modern and antique, with whitewashed wood floors, a chandelier over a rustic wooden table, and a fireplace and chimney that feature a bold, blue geometric motif. A large photograph serves as the centrepiece in the living room, where antique books and other one-of-a-kind pieces line the custom shelves, while the colourful wallpaper infuses a bit of vibrance to the second bedroom. Seattle, WashingtonGood Location Near Prado and walk to Plaza Mayour
Left on 04/16/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We stayed at the Moratin from april 12th to 16th with our 4 year old child. The two bedrooms worked well to let everyone in the family have their own space. Check in was easy but it would be very helpful to have a book of how things work in the apartment (washing machine, stove, etc.). We actually wanted to use the stove on our last morning but could not get it to turn on. I am sure we could have contacted someone and they would have helped but we were getting to ready to leave so we did not pursue it. Other little things, there is no outlet in the kitchen for the coffee maker (that I could find anyway) so that makes brewing coffee complicated. Overall, the location can not be beat. There are multiple great restaurants nearby or a short walk away. You can be to the Plaza Mayor in 10 minutes or the Prado in 5. The street noise is minimal and we did not have trouble falling asleep even on a Friday night. The other thing that could improve this rental is providing some salt/pepper/olive oil. It is a small thing but would really help a new guest settle in. I would definitely rent this apartment again if I am in Madrid.

Great location, near Prado and Parque del Retiro, lots of good restaurants, coffee shops, and bars. A little noise out in the street at night, but that is to be expected in Madrid. Close the many beutiful balcony doors and you will be allright. The partment comes with everything you would need, kitchen fully stocked, linens and very confy bed. Great customer service.

To feel like a resident, not a tourist, we could not imagine a better placed apartment- bars, restaurants,grocers,wine-merchants, jazz, art galleries,museums-all within a few lively streets of what became our 'barrio'. A lift is being installed so access can only get better-68 polished wooden steps can be a little challenging after a night partying ,as the 80 year old in our party puts it. 6 balconies overlook the street corner below so just sitting on the sofa listening to the city at work and play was a pleasure, and the bedrooms are double glazed so we slept well.

The service from Spain-Select was excellent. It was personal, efficient and professional. The location was an ideal area to enjoy the delights of Madrid from. Make no mistake this is one of the top cities in Europe and the world. The apartment is clean, stylish and a pleasure to spend time in. Both my partner and I agreed that provision of salt, pepper, olive oil and other basic cooking amenities for cooking would have helped. However we understand that Spain Select are making this improvement.

Left on 11/17/2011 for a stay in November 2011
The people at Spain Select were very available and helpful in arranging this delightful apartment just around the corner from the Prado and the Reine Sophia (and near the train station). The apartment itself is a four-flight walk-up on narrow stairs, so this would not be a good choice for elderly or infirm clients. The apartment itself is beautiful, but the layout can be challenging as the bathroom is quite a long walk from either bedroom.
We loved the Wifi and the television in the room and found our neighbors to be quiet and helpful. We would stay there again... -

San Francisco, CAThe luxury of space and feeling like a resident for a few days
Left on 11/15/2011 for a stay in November 2011
Beginning with their website, which is very easy to use, I felt that Spain-Select had their customer's experience uppermost in their minds. Every question I sent was promptly answered, so I felt very reassured that the apartment would be as advertised. Which it was---someone from Spain-Select was waiting at the front door when we arrived from the airport. He showed us features of the apartment and left us his cell number if we had any questions. (As it turned out, I had a medical emergency and texted him, and he got back to us immediately with a clinic location in our neighborhood.)
The apartment was great--good beds and bedding; good shower; really good lighting (my pet peeve---I read a lot, and this place was wonderful for a reader), dimmers on all the lights, which I love; kitchen was perfect for our needs. There were even throws on the sofa. And the heating system was superb--(I think its also the a/C which we didn't need.) But very quiet and efficient. I felt that someone had really thought about what a guest would need to feel at home.
Location was fun, and easy to get around by foot, which is what we wanted. Lots of eating places in the neighborhood, as well as bars.
I liked least that we couldn't keep windows open at night because too much street noise. But, the windows were double (or maybe triple) paned, so inside was completely quiet. I liked best the feeling of "coming home" at the end of the day. Very relaxing. Made all the difference for our time in Madrid. I only wished Spain-Select had apartments in Barcelona! -

Santa Barbara, CAGreat way to stay in Madrid
Left on 11/04/2011 for a stay in September 2011
My wife and I, with another couple, rented apartments in Madrid, Granada, Ronda, & Sevilla, for three nights each. I had never used this type of accommodation, but it turned out great! Our average cost of lodging was under $100 per night per couple, plus we saved on breakfasts and enjoying a bottle of wine before going out to dinner. Our apartment in Madrid was beautiful and comfortable, and was only a few blocks from the Prado & Reina Sofia; and easy walking distance to the Plaza Mayor. Convenient to a metro stop as well. Highly recommend it!

Left on 10/15/2011 for a stay in August 2011
My wife and two children stayed here for a long weekend at the end of august. The second bedroom was a bit small but the living room was a nice size with nice windows to the busy street below. There are numerous places to eat and a few small supermarkets near by. The location was good - both near the metro and the museums.
We had a great time and our damage deposit was promptly returned after check out.

This apartment was perfect in every way. The apartment looks exactly as shown in the photos - it is stunning. There are several balconies that open so you can hear the sights and sounds of Madrid. It is a five minute walk to the Prado and the Reina Sofia and an easy walk many other sights in Old Madrid. There is an amazing tapas restaurant right next door that has incredible food. We loved our stay at this apartment.

Kirkland, WashingtonMoratin apartment - Footsteps from The Prado and pedestrian frie
Left on 06/06/2011 for a stay in May 2011
Our stay at Moratin in mid-May 2011 fell during Madrid's festival of its patron saint. Hotel prices reflected the influx of visitors and prompted us to seek alternative accommodations. We found Spain Select during an internet search; ultimately booking our week-long stay based on web photos and long-distant communication with the Spain-based company.
It was the first time we'd booked a privately-owned accommodation, but have found during recent timeshare rentals that many vacation dollars can be saved by eating some meals 'at home' and that on extended trips,as we were on, it is nice to have more space than that of a hotel room.
We paid about 127-Euros a night which was about $180us with the rate of exchange when we were there.
The Stay
We were instructed to telephone Spain Select upon arriving in Madrid so that a representative could meet us at the property. We called as our train from Barcelona was pulling into the station and a company representative was at the apartment building within 10 minutes of our arrival.
Moratin is a charming corner apartment with two-bedrooms,(one queen-sized bed and one twin) a bath (with shower), a fully equipped kitchen (two burner stove top) and washing machine and large living/dining room. Six windows opened to small balconies and provided a viewing stand for watching the activities on the streets below.
The apartment had free wi-fi access, a flat screen television, CD player and many books (in Spanish).
The apartment is not for those with limited mobility. There is no lift (elevator) so it is necessary to climb several flights of beautifully polished, and well-worn wooden stairs - 65 to be exact.
We initially bought groceries at El Corte Ingles, the large department store with full supermarket below it, off Puerto del Sol but soon discovered a small grocery store crammed with items from floor to ceiling much closer to us, Quiroga at Calle Huertas, 19. A fruit/vegetable market just a couple blocks away filled in the produce and fresh bread.
Pros:
-- The location was perfectly suited to us as we were a few blocks from The Prado, The Botanical Garden, and a taxi stop in front of The Palace Hotel, which made it easy to roll our suitcases there when it came time to leave for the airport.
--We were surrounded by tapas cafes and bars - a jazz cafe across the street was one of our favorite 'finds' as was the cerveceria, Los Gatos, two blocks away.
--We were a block off the pedestrian-friendly Calle Huertas - a stroll along it was one of our favorite activities. In the late afternoon we would join locals sipping wine at tables outside another grocery just off Celle Huertas, 'A. Cabello, since 1877'.
-- neighbors were friendly and welcoming. We'd forgotten to ask how to dispose of trash and one of our neighbors explained where and when we would find the garbage cans.
Cons:
-- as noted above, one must be able to climb stairs to stay in this place.
--we did hear some street noise when the late-nighters left the various bars and cafes at 2:30, 3:30 and sometimes 5 a.m. It certainly wasn't a major issue however and had we closed all the windows and turned on the aC the noise would have been eliminated.. -

canadaPerfect for a girlfriend getaway!
Left on 05/28/2011 for a stay in May 2011
My girlfriends and I stayed here for 3 nights. We felt totally at home here even though you have to walk up to the 3rd floor. The apt. looks exactly like the photos and was very comfy. This is a lively neighbourhood at night so if you like to sleep with the windows open(we did) it can be a little loud. Everything is within walking distance and we loved the little streets. The tiny bakery/pizza shop next door had the most delicious bread that we ate on our trip.We stayed in 2 other apts. and I loved this one the most. It made me love Madrid even more!

New England, USAExcellent location and service in Madrid
Left on 03/28/2011 for a stay in March 2011
My wife, teenage daughter, and I stayed at the Moratin apartment in mid March, 2011. The apartment looked just like the photographs on the Spain Select web site and was clean and well kept. The location was fantastic, within easy walking distance of Madrid's major attractions. The apartment building was secure and well lit and was surrounded by many great places to eat and drink. There is also a convenience store across the street which is open until midnight.
Because it is such a popular area for late dinners and tapas there was a significant amount of street noise until restaurants closed in the early morning. The noise of people in the street was never abrasive or vulgar, just the sounds of patrons enjoying their night out. Both bedrooms in the apartment have sound insulating doors on the balcony windows.
I would recommend the Moratin apartment and the services of Spain Select to anyone traveling to Madrid.Response from Spain Select - 04/06/2011
