Description from the manager
This ample apartment overlooks a popular pedestrianised square, called the Plaza de la Paja, in the heart of Madrid's historic district in the area called, La Latina. This is an area that is rich in character, and has an abundance of traditional cafes and restaurants. Furthermore, the Royal Palace and the Basilica of San Andres are nearby. Local traffic restrictions mean that this property, despite such a privileged location, is untroubled by traffic noise. The apartment's living room enjoys charming views from two large balconied windows, which overlook the square and beyond; whilst its two bedrooms have interior windows, providing complete...Read more

Charleston, South CarolinaClean, spacious, and in great location
Left on 07/12/2012 for a stay in June 2012
There were four of us -2 couples- staying at this apartment, which is conveniently located in La Latina on a busy but narrow street with several convenience stores, bakeries, cafes, restaurants, and the famous El Rastro Sunday market nearby. It is a 5-minute walk from two Metro stations (La Latina and Tirso de Molina).
The 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment was spotless and well appointed with dishwasher, large fridge, a stove, and a washing machine. There were plenty dishes and cookware, an iron and ironing board, a clothes rack for drying clothes, although no washing machine detergent nor clothes softener, which we had expected.
Both bedrooms are large, and have en suite bathrooms. The downstairs bathroom is huge and has a curtainless bathtub rather than a shower stall. The upstairs is a loft, so both bedroom and bathroom have low ceilings, about 5'6''. In spite of it, the bedroom, if not the bathroom, is spacious and has a comfortable platform bed, a desk, a couch, a clothes rack in lieu of a closet, and a mirror, in addition to several floor and desk lamps.
The upstairs bathroom is quite small and the shower is designed so that you sit on the ledge to shower, since it would be virtually impossible to do it while standing unless you are 5' 2'' or shorter. Still, we enjoyed it.
The living room is very nice and spacious, with large Spanish-style balcony that allows plenty of natural light in, as well as breeze (the apartment does not have a/c). It also allows you to look down unto the happenings in the street, which we enjoy. It can get loud starting around 8am though, so if you are a light sleeper, you will need earplugs.
We also enjoyed that it is an ethnically diverse area, for what it's worth.
It felt safe and close to banks, supermarket, and to tourist attractions, although not in the heart of the tourist district. It's only a couple of metro stops from Plaza del Sol, and in my opinion, just the right distance from it.
The only thing that may be troublesome for some guests is the lack of privacy in both bedrooms. Neither bedroom had a door, only "curtains" separating the downstairs bedroom from the living room and the upstairs bedroom from the loft stairs. The en suite bathrooms were also doorless. -

San DiegoWe loved it.

We loved the apartment and the area. The layout and the decor were great. Nice towels and bedding. Baths could have been cleaner and a few more items in kitchen (better wine opener and frying pan). A clothes dryer would have been a plus too but, it was also neat to lay our clothes out to dry and live like a local(something we really dont do in the States). We are nit picking though since we really loved it. We were there two weeks and it felt like our home. It had the comforts of home but, it was also different enough were you knew you were in a different country. Simple yet comfortable and had all that we needed. There was a nice grocery store around the corner and it was centrally located for all the sites. We rented bikes around the corner too. Very quiet but, it was winter...we dont know how the square would be in the summer. We have been to over 50 countries but have never rented an apartment for this long. It was fantastic and we highly recommend this place We would return to that exact spot.

We felt like we were part of the Madrid local - eating/drinking what the locals do. The restaurant/bar just below our apartment was a friendly and quaint joint that had a great energy.
Spain Select met us at the apartment and made the check-in process smooth and effortless. We are returning to Madrid and renting from Spain Select again. -

Bay Area - CaliforniaComfortable & Charming apartment in Central Madrid
Left on 04/06/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We found the Spain Select representative professional, responsive and helpful in suggesting this lovely two bedroom apartment for our vacation to Madrid. We were two couples traveling together from California and found this charming apartment clean, well appointed and situated above a pleasant neighborhood plaza. It was conveniently located to walk to many sites or take the metro to further explore the city. The bedrooms are located towards the rear of the apartment, providing a restful environment. The Spain Select representative met us at the apartment after we called from the airport and reviewed the apartment amenities and answered questions. All of our interactions with Spain Select were positive and we would highly recommend them to others.

New York City, New YorkLovely, comfortable apartment; perfect location

A five night stay in the Plaza de la Paja III apartment made us feel like natives. The apartment was lovely, with all the comforts of home, including flat-screen TV, wi-fi, dishwasher, etc. The second bedroom is very small but serviceable. The walk-in closet in the master bedroom is a real plus. No views from the bedrooms but by being in the back of the building, the bedrooms are more quiet. The location is wonderful, with a great bar right downstairs and the excellent restaurant Naia just across the plaza. The metro is very close and convenient even though we walked to most attractions, including the major museums. The only negative comments about the apartment are that the full kitchen had no towels or dish-washing soap provided, which was surprising since the towels and soaps in the bathrooms were excellent. Also, when checking in, make sure to ask about what to do with any trash at the conclusion of your stay.

Manager
Dear Aventurer TMA,
Thank you for your kind words regarding our Plaza de la Paja III apartment, and for taking the time to share your experience here!
We at Spain Select are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us in Madrid, especially in the apartment. We are sorry to hear however that the kitchen had no towels or soap provided, this is something we are working hard on improving with new members of staff working very hard indeed on attention to detail, and our 24 hour maintenance team on call to pass by with anything missing.
It has certainly been a pleasure having you with us and we look forward to greeting you once again into one of Spain Select’s apartments!
Best regards,
Laura Ortiz (Reservations Team)
