The house is situated at the top of the small village of Mairena, on the slopes of the Alpujarras. With a population of around 200, Mairena is situated high in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada of Andalucia in the range of mountains and valleys known as the Alpujarras. The area is of outstanding natural beauty and ecological diversity. Mairena is on the edge of Parque Natural and a few km from from the Sierra Nevada National Park. It is surrounded by olive and almond terraces. The village has a local shop and an excellent restaurant and is within 10km of Ugija, with its food market, supermarkets and other amenities. Airports at Almeria and Granada are approximately 1 hour and 45 mins drive. Malaga airport is approximately 3 hours drive.

Wonderful place to stay. Spacious, clean, light, tastefully restored, with stupendous views of the alpujarras from the expansive terrace and front windows. Good facilities especially the kitchen and dining + sitting area. An efficient wood-burning stove in the main room for chilly winter evenings. Adequate space for two families, with plenty of privacy. Nice walks straight up the back and into the national park. If you want comfortable self-catering in a remote alpujarran village then I cant ilagine a better place to stay.
