We found Yum Botic to be a perfect match for our style of tropical holiday. The panorama from the upstairs deck was priceless, and we spent hours enjoying the view of surf and sand, both during the day and at night watching the star show overhead.
The beach offered imcomparable opportunities for walking and exploring, and perfect whether we walked north or south. Lots of birds everywhere. The entire experience was so relaxing!
We used the kayaks on several occasions and had a blast paddling out toward the reef. While snorkeling, we encountered spotted rays, lion fish, and a loggerhead sea turtle.
As for the house, the kitchen was perfect and included a large refrigerator, plenty of pots and pans, and counter space. The bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed and the showers were large and heavenly.
We also took a day trip to Maya ruins and stopped off in Chetumal to buy groceries on the way back.
Alfonso and Patty, the managers, were very helpful and courteous. We can't wait to return to Yum Botic!

This is the most beautiful, remote, and special place you could hope to stay. The spacious, airy house is situated on a private beach. Pick up some groceries in town and tuck in for a week or two of uninterrupted, paradise living.

We stayed at Yum Botic and had a very relaxing week. We seemed to have had the beach to ourselves every day. If you're looking for an out of the way place to relax, Yum Botic is a good choice.

227920A peaceful beach retreat
Left on 01/15/2012 for a stay in January 2012
This house is a little gem on the Costa Maya. We were looking for a quiet place to enjoy a few days on the beach, far from the big resorts, and we couldn't have made a better choice.
We should first stress that the house is quite isolated, about 35 km from Mahahual. The last 6.5 km are on a dirt road with many potholes, so it takes almost 30 minutes to get to the town. There's absolutely no shopping option in the vicinity, so you need to plan accordingly and buy groceries in Mahahual or, ideally, in Chetumal (two hours away). You'll be perfectly quiet on your little piece of paradise by the beach, but it requires some planning.
The house itself is quite big, and we found it just as described and clean. The bedrooms are very large, with good beds, spacious and well-equiped bathrooms, and sliding doors opening to the terrace (on the ground floor) or the huge rooftop balcony. The kitchen is quite complete, though some of the ustensils and appliances hadn't been used for a while and needed a good cleaning.
There's no microwave oven or other heat-generating appliances. No TV either, but that's just what we wanted. There's no phone line, but satellite internet works fine. As the weather wasn't too warm, we didn't need to use the air conditioning, but it is available for an additional cost. You can see a complete list of the amenities on the house's website (costamayabeachhouse.com).
The house is right on the beach and is surrounded by palm trees and cacti. The housekeeper maintains the grounds very tidy and cleans the beach every morning. It offers amazing views and it is possible to see a variety of marine birds. However, there are large algae banks a few meters from the shore, so there not much space to swim at ease. If you plan to sit on the beach, get some tan and relax, that's fine. The owner just bought two kayaks and we enjoyed using them too. But for swimming, the beach in Mahahual is much better.
The surrounding area of the Costa Maya is quite interesting to explore. There's a number of Mayan ruins to visit (the closest, in Chacchoben, are about one hour from the house), the Laguna de Bacalar and the Fuerte de San Felipe (about 1.5 hours), the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve etc. Mahahual itself is a very pleasant village. It gets quite busy when there's a cruise ship at the dock, but otherwise it is very quiet and there's not much people on the beach. Various restaurants offer chairs and umbrellas at no cost if you order something, and prices are still very reasonable compared to the Riviera Maya.
All in all, we were very pleased with this holiday rental. The house was very comfortable and well-kept, and we felt very safe in spite of the remoteness. We enjoyed visiting the surrounding area and spending time on the beach, both at the house and in Mahahual. We found the cost very reasonable, and would not hesitate to recommend it and return in the future.Response from Susan Ackoff Ortega - 01/25/2012

Don't be afriad of the location. Driving in Mexico opens up so much for you. The roads to this house has lots of pot holes and no lights. Once you get familar with the area it's really very simple. The beach is beautiful but you can't swim or snorkle here. There are plenty of other beaches close by that are great to swim. The dogs did bark some nights, at what you can only guess. The bugs were awful.

GLAD YOU ENJOYED THE BEACH.
Sad you didn't swim there. we swim there all the time when we're at the house. There are wonderful areas to swim in front of the house. It's definitely shallow in parts and close to shore. We have the dogs to help guard the house and that's why they bark. Sad to hear about the bugs. We advise guests to bring bug repellent with deet. Usually there are no bugs during the time of the year when you stayed.
We are definitely on a back road and like most roads in the countryside worldwide, there are no lights. Thank you for staying at YUM BOTIC. -

This is the ultimate getaway; Yum Botic has it all. Privacy, constant cool breeze, lapping turquoise ocean at your door. The only sounds are the palms blowing in the soft crosswinds. I could stare at the ever changing muti-colors of the ocean for hours. From the expansive deck, on the second floor, by night I am sure I touched the Milky Way for the first time...catch a falling star and save it for a rainy day! I highly recommend this location as your next vacation location!
