“Very enjoyable, relaxing and peaceful amongst the local people not in the rat race of touristy Waikiki.” We did not rent a car and used the local bus system to travel everywhere which was great but time consuming. The accommodation is at least an hour from Honolulu and Waikiki so travelling on a bus late at night is not ideal, however the bus does stop outside the condo complex. The condo facilities are comfortable with access to 2 pools, it is on the 3rd floor with stair access only which is hard with heavy luggage, however being higher up means there are sea views and the benefit of fresh breezes. We found the owner friendly and approachable.

“Beautiful Villa!” This is a very late entry and I normally don't write reviews, but this villa in Ko'Olina is simply amazing! My family, including my husband and 2-year-old daughter, along with another couple stayed at David's condo last year and it was more than we could ask for. The place is well kept, clean, and has state of the art utilities. Melissa and David made the booking process easy, and ensured we had everything we needed during our stay. Even when the dryer broke at the beginning of our trip, Melissa and David were right on it and sent someone out immediately to fix it (the washer/dryer came in very handy during our vacation). Our favorite part about the villa was definitely the lanai. We woke up every morning and enjoyed the views for hours before even leaving the unit, and we spent every night watching the sunset from the lanai. Pure relaxation! The kitchen was fully stocked so we were able to cook a lot of our meals, which saved us some money. There was even a BBQ by the pool area we used. Very convenient. Lagoon 2, which was where the villa was located, was definitely the best out the 4. Quiet, peaceful, and the water was amazing! The waves were mild and calm. My daughter loved it and even learned how to swim there! I can't say enough about our stay here. We have been to Oahu several times, but staying in Ko'Olina at this condo was definitely the best trip we've had to Oahu! We hope to come back soon.

Makaha lies on Oahu's west shore, not too far from Honolulu.

First things first, when you visit Makaha, you have to hit the beach. Makaha Beach Park is a great spot for vacationers and has almost everything you could possibly need.
Learn to surf with one of the local schools. If that’s not for you, try something else, like canoe-surfing or tandem surfing! Go diving between the arches and ledges in Makaha Caverns and explore these natural caves.
If you're looking for something a little calmer, the beach is wide so it's also great for swimming and sunbathing. We suggest setting up in the center of the beach as there's no reef and the waves are calm – perfect for families.
To find out a little more about the local culture, visit the Kan Aki Heiau – an ancient Hawaiian temple. There's always someone around to tell you about it. But remember it's only open between Tuesdays and Sundays.
Top Makaha, Hawaii travel tips
There's no need for a car in Makaha. You can walk pretty much everywhere. To get here, use public transport – the Express City Bus C is best as it takes you along the coast and is the most direct route.
While on the beach, watch out for sea turtle nests – you wouldn't want to accidentally step on one!
Also, if you're not a confident swimmer, stay out of the water when the surf is up. There are lifeguards on the beaches, but it's best to stay safe during your stay.
