This is a great studio located in a very unique property. The studio itself is very romantic, you feel like you are all by yourself on a tropical island. It was a very comfortable stay! Great views and a great deck.

This cottage was a unique and wonderful place to stay in Maui. At night we felt like we had the island to ourselves. It was silent, and so dark, one night we saw more starts than I ever knew were in the sky. We actually saw the Milky Way! The bed was large and comfortable. I would have preferred to have a microwave to warm up leftovers, and also some type of stall for the shower as it can be quite cool in the bathroom in the morning. Nevertheless, it was nice to be away from all the action around the resorts and have an entire place to ourselves. The view is lovely, as are the surrounding gardens. The birds are quite loud in the morning, as if we were camping in the wilderness, but there's nothing you can do about that. Being on EST we were ready to wake up at 6am anyway. The staff was friendly but kept to themselves and gave us our privacy. We never had any problems with the staff or the cottage.

We loved our stay in this beautiful studio! Everything you need is right at hand. We enjoyed the fragrances from the many plants and the awesome view. Watching sunset from the hot tub was divine!

Stayed for three nights for romantic getaway and this place delivered. Cottage tucked away from main house with full privacy. Property beautifully maintained. The views are beyond belief. Although the cottage is small, it has all the amenities you could need. It has the feeling of a boat with every detail well thought out. My only complaint would be the road to get to the rental which is narrow and windy, but the beauty of upcountry Maui makes this a trivial complaint at best.

My husband and I enjoyed a relaxing mini-vacation at this welcoming and unique location. We were in the midst of an herb garden and depending upon the time of day -- we were surrounded by marvelous fragrances. Cordial hospitality, helpful information, and charming accommodations. An easily remediable issue -- the water temperature valve in the shower needs to be replaced. Other than that, our octagon suite was filled with convenient , comfortable and thoughtful amenities.

"The drive up the road lined with beautiful tress and rolling pastures gives you a slight idea of what you are in for when you get to this neat little cabin. The peacefulness of everything around you allowed us to relax and sleep better than we are accustomed too, which that alone makes the whole experience positive! Our last night left us feeling rejuvenated and grateful for our time here. The cabin and grounds seem to set the pace for a very relaxing holiday"

I loved staying at the Octogon studio - the web site is good but the studio and property is nicer than what is conveyed on the web site.
The bed is really comfortable and with the cool fresh air, makes for great sleep. Plus the air totally aromatic with geranium and other plants.
The view is of the island's isthmus and sunsets can be enjoyed
from the hot tub / lap pool.
I loved the pools. Alternating between the hot one and the cool one
is both stimulating and relaxing -- healthful. (I tempered this effect with a glass of wine!)
Plus you can book a massage and then crash or drive down the hill for dinner in Makawao.
Oh yes, and the drive up/ down is totally idyllic - happy grazing cows and horses on rolling hills graced by rainbows.
The owners are accommodating and gracious.
I highly recommend this place and look forward to going back! -

We were very pleased with the aromatherapy's service. We arrived on a late flight and were accommodated very well. Doreena left the lights on and had all in order! The Octagon studio is just like the pictures--beautiful, clean and cozy! It was a little cool at night (February visit) so we were not able to leave the screen doors open as we would have liked. But, the view from the porch is unmatched. We love staying in a unique location away from the crowds and noisy. This was perfect. The grounds were lush and well cared for. We wanted for nothing in the kitchen nor bath. We would recommend the studio to all! Aloha

We rented the Octagon Studio for a week's get away in Maui, to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. It turned out to be perfectly suited, romantically tucked away in lush green gardens, with outstanding views of the north coast of the island.
As the name suggests this is an 8 sided wooden cottage with lovely wooden beams on the ceiling, and white curtains framing each of the windowed sides. It has a supremely comfortable king-sized tempurpedic bed, a cozy, well-equipped kitchen, and a bathroom well-stocked with lovely products from the aromatherapy foundation (we ended up purchasing some to take home). Despite being very private, the cabin is superbly appointed; you get fantastic views of the valley and garden from your bed, the deck, and even the bathroom as you brush your teeth. The grounds at the aromatherapy foundation on which the studio is located create the perfect peaceful atmosphere. The garden is stunning and especially fragrant after any rain. We loved watching the sunsets from the hot tub and enjoying the view as we Bbq'd on our own deck; on one notable occasion the most vivid rainbow we'd ever seen materialized to frame the property, it's ends touching down at the boundaries of the garden. Yes, this place is certainly photogenic, but as good as any photos you take will be, they'll never quite capture the magic of this place first-hand.
The on-site 'Maui Spa Retreat' is also definitely worth a visit. Not knowing much about aromatherapy we tried the diffuser in our room and found the wonderful aromas just became part of our special experience in Maui. Heading up to the spa, we indulged in a sauna and full-body aromatherapy massage - wow - we've reviewed the spa separately but it's worth mentioning here and a 'must-do'. Last, but certainly not least, Doreena and Tom are perfect hosts; great to talk to and ever attentive, while also respecting your privacy. Having lived here for years they're a wealth of local knowledge and able to organize/help with whatever you need. If you’re looking for an alternative to the bustle of the sea-side condos, and a perfect private studio to recharge, this is it. -

Thank you so much for letting us be a part of your family for a few days! The pictures online can't come close to doing this place justice- it is absolutely beautiful- from the attention to detail in the Octagon, the incredible views that takes our breath away every single time, to the beautiful smelling garden! You can't pick a better place to stay in Maui if you're looking to relax and take in the Maui experience. Octagon was clean, and full of every ammenity you could need. Mahalo!

Truly a beautiful location and very sweet! The lush country surrounding is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of mainland Maui. All of the modern conveniences you could need! We will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family back home.

We found a magical hide-a-way when we found the Octagon Studio. The little cabin tucked away in the woods was the perfect place to call home each day. The fragrant surroundings, and enchanting view were straight from a storybook, complete with rainbows and butterflies. Waking to the misty, cool mornings and the sound of singing birds are forever in our hearts. We long for the day we return up the winding, magical road that leads to our little cabin on Maui.

If you are looking for a retreat type of accommodation on Maui, this place is perfect; quiet, peaceful, surrounded by gardens, and has stunning views. It is located on a higher elevation, so you can see both the ocean and a big part of the island.
I personally prefer cooler temperatures in Upcountry Maui, compared with South Maui; for example, during the day, Upcountry Maui (Olinda) may be 23 degrees Celsius, while it may be 28C near the ocean. No worries though, you still get sunshine during the day, but overall it is at least 5 degrees cooler (perfect for people who don't thrive in the raging heat). The Octagon suite is a really interesting structure (most likely from Bali); originally one octagonal room, it now offers a small kitchen and bathroom with a shower. Expect a completely different experience if you compare it with the regular Maui condos (or hotels). Nearby in the garden, there is a massive wind chime, almost 2 meters high. The sound is unbelievable. Recently, Doreena planted a lot of geranium and lavender, and the air is beautifully scented. Driving to Olinda from Makawao is a unique experience. Last year I greatly enjoyed returning from the city late in the evening, and discovering over and over again the mysterious road between eucalyptus trees. This location is certainly worth to look into; I have been here every time I go to Maui. The owners are wonderful (big bonus: Doreena can help you with aromatherapy customized kits, massages and treatments on site, and her husband , Tom Barefoot is the owner of the famous Barefoot Tours - activities in Hawaii since 1975).
I love the Octagon suite and the serene pool nearby (cold, salty water) + jacuzzi. There is also a cottage located on the property which is available for rent. If you plan on coming with a larger group, the Grand Villa is ideal for retreats or seminars. Very well maintained, this property is a great choice if you want to experience a special vacation. During our 2:nd stay on Maui we looked for - and found - a perfect temperate climat. The Octagon studio is situated above Paia and Makawao with superb sea view in an tranquil environment. Although all modern conveniences are included, you still feel adventurous in the airy, unpretentious cottage. Only small objection is that there's no restaurant within short walking distance. But Makawao is nearby, and you really don't want to leave the cottage at all... After 14 years of touring, 2200 hotelnights in Europe, Asia and africa I'm not easily impressed, but Octagon is a hit!

What a wonderful place!
The scents and serenity draw you in to this intimate and confortable, yet elegant oasis. The air is crisp but the hosts are warm. My boyfriend and I had a great time, going through the garden, or retiring to our studio after a day visiting the different parts of Maui. I highly recommend aromatherapy Foundation.
