We've just arrived back at home and are still remembering our great time in the hills from Makawao. We can highly recommend the aromatherapy Foundation. We stayed six days there and had a wonderful time. The Romantic Cottage is spacious and luxury. We felt like we would live in our own villa. Everything you could need is there: Pool, hot tube, grill. kitchen with full equipment, a giant comfortable double bed and a gorgeous view. The furniture is very elegant. We also can recommend the treatments at the Spa. They do a great job and really take care of you. And Doreena and Tom are such great hosts. They gave us many recommendations and always helped us if we needed something.

Left on 04/29/2012 for a stay in December 2011

Staying up at the cottage was a very relaxing and quiet getaway from the mainland. Doreen and her peers treated me very well and I felt like I was actually on vacation. From the moment I entered the property, I knew this was where I wanted to be, a quiet location with friends and family to spend for a week. I had the pleasure of going out to dinner with Tom and Doreen to a wonderful restaurant called Casanova - a delicious Italian experience that I went back for again that same week. I recommend that anyone stay for at least a week to get a great sense of the island, the people and enjoy an easy afternoon at the Spa while getting a massage. I look forward to coming back in the Winter time either this year or next, as I did not want to leave the island. Thank you again Doreen, Tom, and their peers who were very helpful in making me feel welcome.

Great beach down the road Early morning view from the cottage Secluded location was a nice getaway from home

The best lodging we could have imagined

Left on 02/23/2012 for a stay in December 2011

This place blew us away. My wife & I stayed here on our honeymoon, and this was by far our favorite spot while on Maui.

While the other hotels we stayed at were nice (4/5 star), on a relative scale this place should be an 8/5 -- b/c it was easily twice as nice, twice as big, twice the view, twice the everything you could expect from a high quality hotel.

It was extremely clean, well kept, and quiet. It feels modern yet unpretentious and very cozy. We really felt spoiled and wondered if we even deserved all of that awesomeness. It allowed us to really relax during our final days on the island, cook nice meals, swim, enjoy the hot-tub; and the views from upstairs are from another planet.

If you enjoy a "mountain atmosphere" with warm weather - this is the spot. A short 15 min drive takes you to a small quaint town, and another 15 mins gets you to the beach. Yep, 30 mins from 'in the mountains' to 'on the beach'.

The road to the property is quite the adventure - very windy, but I thought it was fun. It doesn't border any steep cliffs but for those uncomfortable with "snakey" roads might not want to make the drive after dark - b/c there are no street lights.. which only adds to the charm.

It's also not far from the Hana highway, so if that's in your plans that's another great reason to stay here. It's also fairly close to Haleakala Park, which has amazing sunrises above the clouds.

The staff, Tom & Doreena are awesome. Cujo the anti-guard dog adds a perfect touch to the staff, and despite his small but mighty bark he warms up to people fast. There are also spa facilities on site, which was a great way for us to finish off our adventurous honeymoon.

This is one of those "buried treasure" spots you will tell friends about forever. Take full advantage & thank these guys for creating such an amazing & affordable paradise.

Ps - they even have lemon, lime & avocado trees; you can even pick the fruit to make your own guacamole - doesn't get fresher than that!

We had a great stay at your comfy cottage. The hike you recommended up the road was beautiful! Thank you for for the relaxing spa treatments, they were a nice transition from work to vacation mode. The essential oils and atomizer in the unit were wonderful! It was a joy to have Cujo greet us each time we came and went. Oh, and we loved listening to the huge chime outside. We can't think of a place we'd rather be during an earthquake (11-23-10, 4.7 magnitude) and we can't say enough about the place and the view.

      Beautiful smells and private

Left on 11/04/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We stayed here one night while visiting friends in Makawao. We made the reservation at the last minute and the owners were very accommodating. This property has 3 units. One is a big house, another is the octagon studio, and then there's this unit: Bedroom upstairs with living room, kitchen and bathroom on the main floor. There are decks on both floors. While all the units are close together (you can look on Google Maps), this one has the most privacy. Especially the upstairs bedroom which has a wall of window overlooking the isthmus with the water on both sides easily visible.

The bathroom was clean and had many smelly soaps and lotions that my wife liked. The kitchen was stocked with all the expected items. We Bbq-ed and cut up some fruit and bread. There was also little appliance in the living room for launching scented vapor into the air. The bedroom was large and the bed was comfortable.

The owner gave us a quick tour of the property and pointed out all the plants used to make the make the scents.

I rated this 4 stars instead of 5 because I thought the jacuzzi spa hours were too restrictive. It is closed from the end of sunset (6:15) until late morning (after we were heading out). This is not a big deal if you're staying on the property during the day, but for us, we were out in the day and just back at dinner time thru breakfast.

Great Stay away from the Resorts

Stayed in the Romantic Cottage for three nights as part of our honeymoon. Incredibly romantic setting with a beautiful western view of the island (and sunset) from the bedroom. We booked a couples massage on our last day and it was a wonderful way to wrap-up our vacation - wish we had more time to explore the gardens and use the swimming pool/hot tub. Would definitely stay here again the next time we come to Maui.

      Heaven on earth

I remember reading a quote here on Maui, years ago when visiting Kipahulu, which said "If there is a heaven on Earth, it is here, it is here, it is here." That's how wonderful this place strikes me. I loved the expansive views of the island, the lush grounds, the sound of the wind in the trees and the variety of bird calls. Thank you Tom & Doreena for creating such a sanctuary for myself and others to enjoy. The wonderful spa services and essential oils were truly the cherry on top. The sadness I feel leaving after my 5 day stay is soothed by the knowledge that I'll be back to visit in the future! An honor meeting little Cujo too! Olinda No Ka Oi!

We loved our stay here. The views from this place are breathtaking and no pictures can do it any justice. Doreena is pleasant host and an aromatherapy expert. She will invite you to stroll the gardens and sample the fragrances. The first thing that will captivate you with this place is the fragrance of the aromatherapy farm itself. You will wish you could put it into a bottle and actually Doreena can do that for you because she distills the herbs and flowers herself. Drive up the road with the windows down to breathe in the eucalyptus. The location is perfect for exploring Haleakala (about 1 hour away) which you will not want to miss at sunrise or sunset. It is also a closer drive to the road to Hana than from the beach resorts. For great Italian dining try Cassanova's in nearby town of Makawao or the Mexican restuarant. There is also a great convenience store in town. For the ultimate experience here, do not miss booking a massage/spa appointment in this lovely aromatherapy spa.

Perched in secluded Olinda, the view from the Romantic Cottage is breathtaking and impressive. The environment is beautiful, peaceful, soothing, relaxing, and inspirational. Lavender and rose varieties, along with many other aromatic herbs line the gardens and pleasantly scent the crisp mountain air. The Romantic Cottage was the perfect retreat for my husband and I to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. In the evenings we sat outside on the upstairs lanai, with a glass of wine in hand toasting the day and enjoying the beautiful sky at sunset.

Our stay at the romantic cottage was fabulous. If you are looking for an experience that is different than the hotel experience, this one is something to check out. The views are just fabulous all day long, the cottage very nicely appointed and the hot tub and pool a bonus. The pine forest up the road was a nice treat each day. You have to wind your way up the hill to get there which might be a little disconcerting for some but I'm used to narrow windy roads & you will get used to them also - it's worth the trip. You might not want to leave.

      Breathtaking

Left on 03/15/2011 for a stay in December 2009

Such a hidden, peaceful, gem, that is how I would describe our stay.
We started our two week Hawaiin vacation (to celebrate our 40th birthdays) at aromatherapy and couldn't have been happier. From the amazing views to the huge moon across the valley at 4am, to the serenity, calm, peacefulness found walking around the property, the massage on property, the king size bed to the welcoming "dog tail" wags as we parked our car. Truly everything was perfect. I remember sitting by the pool with drink in hand taking in wifts of lavender while looking over the lush green mountains and valley below telling myself to remember this vision for times of stress back home.
The staff was so helpful, laid back and organized. They were there when we needed them and let us enjoy the property as if it were our own while we were there.
This is located in the northern part of Maui in the mountains so if it is 80 on the beach know that it is not going to be 80 when you arrive at your cottage. Being a typical woman I was glad I brought along a fleece jacket. We loved that we were able to experience the different landscapes of Maui instead of just staying on the main strip. There is sooo much more to Hawaii than most vacationers realize. We felt lucky to have stayed at such a unique and off the beaten path and yes we would stay again in a heart beat.

The aromatherapy Foundation's property and surrounding areas are beautiful, and our stay in the Romantic Cottage was a wonderful way to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We aren't the "all-inclusive" type. We like to adventure a little farther than most, and we really enjoyed the solitude, privacy, good energy, and gorgeous views we found here. The whole property is very well-maintained and clean. We happily cooked our meals at "home" (the cottage comes with all the appliances, dishes, and cookware you need) and spent mornings and evenings outside on the private decks listening to the birds and cows. I will not soon forget the view and peacefulness I enjoyed during morning yoga outside. I recommend stopping at Whole Foods or Down to Earth in Kahului or Mana in Paia to stock up before you arrive; and you can also get decent items quickly at the Rodeo General Store in Makawao. The salt water pool and hot tub felt great after a day at the beach or hiking up the road in the forest (incredible scents of eucalyptus and pine). I recommend taking advantage of the spa treatments at least once (we did sauna and aromatherapy massages). The owners and staff were very welcoming and friendly, as was Cujo the "guard" dog. This truly was a real find for our vacation, and we would return in a heartbeat.

Quiet with a beautiful view. Long winding drive to/from shops/restaurants, but we liked the "getting away" feeling. Cozy and indeed romantic.

Although it feels like a long way, we are actually only 3.5 miles from the nearby town with shops/restaurants!

My Wife and I went to Maui for our 10th anniversary and went back and forth of where to stay. We were very fortunate to find the aromatherapy Foundation of Maui. The Romantic Cottage was extremely clean and well tended. The staff answered questions when we had them and were very friendly. The quiet location and beautiful views made our vacation and anniversary very special. We will definitely stay there again on our next rip to Maui.

We loved our stay at the Romantic Cottage. It felt like home immediately and no detail was overlooked. I cannot think of one thing that I would change about our stay. We could go down the hill and drive to the town of Makawao for shopping and strolling or we could drive up the hill for an amazing hiking experience with caves in the rocks. I guess the only thing that I would change about out trip to the aromatherapy Foundation is that we could not stay longer.
