What Past Guests Are Saying
A luxurious and restorative retreat.
Doreen & Tom have created a truly magical place. It is a place where there is just incredible breathtaking beauty every where you look and a peacefulness outside that slowly seeps into you. until the act of meditation becomes a state of being.
The Grand villa is grand indeed! There's the well-equipped kitchen with the multi layered herb garden just outside the door, fresh vegies from the organic garden nearby and freshly laid eggs for breakfast each morning. The living room can hold a a group very well but we were equally comfortable sitting in the cushy recliner by ourselves in front of the fireplace and big screen TV. Up stsirs in the master suite is the bed that you will never want to get out of...and directly in front are the french doors that open to a petite euro balcony for two...there you are perched in the tree tops gazing out over the entire island, absorbing the immense beauty day and night. You have the thought that nothing else exists. You feel far away from everything yet you are close. The nearest town is Makawao and 10 minutes down the road. There you will find my favorite Italian restaurant and boutique store shopping. You are steeped in rural life here. The owners have thought of everything to assist you in a superb stay. Evey need was met with a smile and desire to assist. The property has all of the public spa amenities but here it is just for the fortunate few staying on property. Daily I would swim laps in the saltwater pool or soak in the hot tub under the starry night sky. My partner especially loved the deluxe steam room that comes with the grand villa suite...The on-site spa provides a range of body care services given by well trained and deeply caring therapists. The aromatherapy foundation provides essential oil kits and diffusers in the house as well, making the experience easy for beginners to begin to appreciate aroma in every day life. I could go on but I'm running out of characters! Our stay was beyond our expectations!
We had the trip of a lifetime, in part, thanks to this amazing rental. It was the perfect place for a large group! Enough different spaces for everyone to have privacy and fun social moments too. Beautiful home and lovely grounds!
Paradise on earth
This is my second visit to aromatherapy Foundation of Maui. Last year, my husband and I stayed at the Octagon cottage for our wedding anniversary. We enjoyed so much, I took my family (parents and sister) with me this year and we stayed at the Grand Villa. The house is serene, clean, bright and there is plenty of room for all five of us to spread out when we needed to. It is also very well stocked. My mom loved the kitchen, she kept saying it is how her dream kitchen should be.
It is up in the mountain and away from the tourists. I feel like we are truly getting away from our busy lives and able to just relax and enjoy the views and tranquility.
The Grand Villa provides an amazing vacation experience. The house is everything it appears to be in the pictures, with innumerable extra touches like beautiful bathrobes and beach towels available for each guest, a kitchen more fully stocked than any other rental I have ever had, and aromatherapy devices dispensing lovely scents into the house. The views are incomparable, the onsite spa provides wonderful aromatherapy massages, and the gardens are spectacular. It is a bit cooler at this elevation, so be sure to bring something warmer for evenings outside. The location is terrific, being a few minutes from the charming town of Makawao with nice restaurants and shops and 20 minutes down to the beaches of Paia and the Road to Hana with more restaurants, shops, and a grocery store, and 25 minutes to Kahului airport. It is a great base to explore all areas of the island.
Just what the doctor ordered...
My husband and I, along with my sister and brother-in-law stayed in the Grand Villa Estate while I recuperated from surgery. The Villa was very comfortable and had all the amenities that you could possibly need. Most mornings we awoke to beautiful rainbows and in the evening amazing sunsets. The hot tub and salt water pool beckoned nightly especially with the aroma of the flowers and plants surrounding them. The home is close to the road to Hana, as well as Mt. Haleakala. Thank you Doreena and Tom for sharing your wonderful home. It's the perfect place to heal and relax...just what the doctor ordered. Mahalo nui loa

Stunningly beautiful, well-managed, relaxing, and accessible to
I have been twice to the aromatherapy Foundation's accommodations on Maui, once to the romantic cottage (as a couple) and once to the Grand Villa (hosting a group of 8 midlife women for a Recalibrate Camp). If you are looking for a place to stay in Maui that is stunningly beautiful, well managed, and away from the ant swarm of tourists, but close enough to anything and everything in Maui, then this is your place. The Romantic cottage has everything that a couple would want: fully equipped kitchen, fabulous eating patio, laundry, gorgeous views from everywhere, and a superior spa on site that offers a multitude of spa services. The Grand Villa is perfect for a group or a family. Every bedroom is special and has a wonderful view, and the living area accommodates an easy flow of people eating, relaxing, chatting, and enjoying the lovely scents coming from the gardens. My group loved the layout of the villa because they could easily be social in the living areas or the hot tub or enjoy personal time in their beautiful rooms or one of the little nooks in the house or the gardens. Everyone loved being able to take advantage of the on-site aromatherapy Spa. Many in my group were swimmers, so we took advantage of the Upcountry aquatics Center that has two 25 meter pools and is only 10 minutes away in Pukalani. For those who like to run, walk, and bike, the property is situated on a wonderful upcountry loop road and is only a few miles from fabulous hiking. Doreena and Tom, the managers, are always available if anything is needed, but most everything one could need has already been thought of and is available. The entire property has a lovely feel to it. This is a special place full of the spirit of aloha. If you want to be touched by Maui, this is the place to stay. You will be pleased you chose to stay here.

What a wonderful home and a beautiful way to experience Paradise
We stayed here for 8 nights at the end of May and being our 6th+ visit to Maui, for the first time we decided to stay upcountry rather than in the resorts or condos on the beach. It was a great decision as we got to experience things we've never seen on the island before and the home was simply wonderful and well appointed. Pool, hot tub, steam room, double showers, very comfortable master bed, kitchen with it all and views that cannot be beat. The weather was a bit cooler up there (few degrees which I appreciated) and we had the typical mountain showers but never a washout.
A little bit of a drive to get up from Makawao and the roads get tight, but never too scary if you just take it slow. Bring ice from town for your first night so you don have to drive back down to complete that PiñaColada or Mai Tai you want to enjoy after you unpack (blender is included with home!).
Plenty of space for our family of 4 (families twice as big would find it spacious!) and being closer to locales such as Paia, Haiku and the Road to Hana was nice.
I would highly recommend this home if you are fortunate enough to have the opportunity. Finally, I cannot forget to mention that the owners Tom and Doreena are great people who obviously take pride in their home, aroma garden and providing high class hospitality to all who come.
This is about Views, great Taste and Nature
You walk into the house through a beautiful wooden door with stain glass. When you arrive in your appartement your breath is taken away by the view of the meadows, the whole valley and the West Maui Mountains. You have the same view from the bathroom and downstairs from the living room and kitchen. The place is decorated with taste, everything natural, all beautiful wood details and floors. In addition to that a wonderful kitchen with everything you have at home. Outside you smell the Eukalyptus trees and you get and education about a lot of herbs, which are used for aromatherapy. Also you can have a treatment right there and a message in the spa. Not to mention the wonderful owners Doreena and Tom.

Heaven on Earth
We stayed at the Grand Villa with our best friends. This is the second time, so I thought I would let others know about this beautiful one of a kind experience. This villa is an incredible one of a kind house with a breath taking view anywhere you are in the home. Peaceful, spacious, relaxing, as well as educational with all the beautiful plants, flowers and essential oils. We learned a lot about them from the wonderful owners Dorena and Tom on this amazing property. The accommodations are superb!!! We had many special sunset dinners together. The gourmet kitchen has every essential that you could possibly need to make a meal. We also had massages there at the beautiful spa, it was the best I ever had. I would highly recommend this wonderful place. What a fabulous place to vacation or have a very special family gathering. Truly, Heaven on Earth!!! If you want a very unique Hawaiian experience, stay at this amazing place.

We are filled with gratitude for the privilege of being able to stay in such a beautiful home in such a spectacular place. We feel so well cared for by all of the thoughtful touches, wonderful scents, beautiful sights and incredible peace created here. Our trip was filled with delights and connections to the spirit of the island. Amazing dawns, rainbows, sunsets, shooting stars, red moon, lightening, goats, turtles, dolphins, waterfalls, fierce oceans, gentle coves, beautiful beaches, warm tubs...We hope we may return again and again, Mahalo!
A Building Block for Great Memories
The Grand Villa at the aromatherapy Foundation of Maui was chosen for our summer family vacation spanning three generations with age ranging from 11 to 75 years old.
The house is very well equipped including a large kitchen with ample working space; 60” plus large screen TV; tons of fresh linens and towels; coolers, chairs and toys for the beach; use of washer/dryer and much more.
Although the house is up country, it is actually very centrally located meaning we could reach the shopping in Kahului (Costco and Wal Mart) and Paia in less than 30 minutes; the beaches in Wailea in less than an hour and Kapalua in just over an hour.
The magnificent sight, the sound of nature and the aroma all combined with the comfort offered by the house thus enabling each family member to fully enjoy our time together.
Being able to truly live in the moment - are great memories not made of these?

Family Reunion in Heaven on Earth
This place was perfect for our precious three generation family reunion. Of all the places we have stayed on Maui, this one now tops our list! It has lots of room, was luxurious, clean, beautifully decorated and the views were truly spectacular. We will always remember all the meals together in the big dining area and out on the deck and watching the pink and golden sunsets over the ocean. It was convenient to visit all the different and fun beaches and places on the island and coming 'home' was always the best part. Our group of 10 highly recommends it and we will return and tell our friends about it.
Wonderful vacation in Maui
My wife and I very much enjoyed staying here! Views from every window are magnificent, with frequent rainbows virtually on the property, air is so great that you would eat it if you could, plus it is very quiet - we were basically on our own with all the facilities (pool, hot tub, steam room, etc.) at our disposal. You will need a car, but I think the location is very convenient: every place of interest or beach is within a reachable distance, while staying on either side of the island would add x miles to every trip (and there are a lot of things to do and see on Maui). And if you do not want to go anywhere, you can easily spend a day there relaxing, sunbathing and sitting in the hot tub (which is particularty good to do at night or early in the morning). ...What else? The kitchen and the house generally had everything we needed and more, the owner of the property has a tour agency, which helped a lot with booking various activities. We had a great time, Doreena, thanks a lot for your hospitality!
The perfect getaway
This place was definitely worth the long and winding drive upcountry. It was so beautiful, quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. The views were spectacular and the property was very large and comfortable. The aromatics made the entire stay feel like a spa. My only critique is on the pool; no heater and it drops to the 60s at night so it was way too cold to swim. We will definitely come back to this home again and maybe even try the smaller cottages on the property as well.
A perfect spot for a large group!
We had the best time at this amazing property. I cannot say enough about how perfect everyone and everything was to us! Thanks again!

Thank you! With almost 4,000 sq. ft. of space and 6 bedrooms it's perfect for large families and groups...hope to see you again soon!
Relaxing stay in mountain getaway
My new wife and her bridesmaids spent the night before our wedding getting pampered and she and I spent three nights after the wedding as a honeymoon. The owner is incredibly gracious and the house is immaculate. We love to cook so it was really nice to have a huge kitchen to prepare some meals and enjoy our wedding leftovers. The view from just about everywhere in the house is incredible and it is beautiful to see the island mist as you lay in bed. There is a pool and hot tub along with a private steam room. The only downside is that the pool and hot tub are shared by the other houses on the property so that is not completely private. We loved our stay and it was really relaxing and tranquil. It is not near anything touristy or the beach though so if you are looking for that then this would not be the place for you. We would definitely stay here again.
Response from Aromatherapy Foundation of Maui - 08/06/2010
Thanks for the lovely review. Just one point of clarification. Yes the pool and hot tub are available during the day to others staying at the Aromatherapy Foundation of Maui but after sunset the pool and hot tub are exclusively available only for the use of those staying in the Grand Villa. Aloha, Doreena
