Howler and white-faced Capuchin Monkeys frequent the property and love to visit the tree house banyan tree, providing for amazing 'National Geographic' style photo opportunities! Playa Selva Tree House Lodging is near the beach in Mal Pais, which is the southern most town near the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. (****Map displays the incorrect location, we're actually on what they call "160" in Mal Pais -you will not see any signs that refer to it as "160".**) Mal Pais is a relatively quiet area, away from the crowds of Santa Teresa. It is about 1.25 miles from the cruce ('intersection' between Mal Pais and Sta. Teresa. There are restaurants, bars, mini-market also in Mal Pais.

My boyfriend and I stayed here after a few days in Monteverde and Cabuya. The tree house was by far my favorite! It was very cozy and romantic with all the amenities you could need. It was so nice to wake up to the sounds of howler monkeys and birds in the trees, cook breakfast and enjoy it with a cup of coffee on the porch overlooking the lush tropical landscape. The bed was very comfortable and the shower is perfect for two ;)
I might also add that the tree house was very clean- equipped with cooking necessities, coffee maker, coffee, two eye burner, blender, fridge, cleaning supplies, towels, etc. It also felt very safe.
Kurt was super nice and very accommodating. He helped us book surfing lessons and offered us a spot on his sailing charter (which we would have done if we had more time).
The tree house is a 2 minute walk from the beach. There are several beautiful beaches in the area. My favorite was Playa Hermosa in Santa Teresa (about a 10 minute drive). There are a lot of great restaurants & sodas. The burritos at the taco stand in Santa Teresa are delish!
There is definitely something special about the Mal Pais/Santa Teresa area that warms your soul. The people are friendly and the way of life is laid back and relaxed. I hope to visit again soon. Pura Vida! -

We loved the tree house! The owners have constructed it very well and maintained the true "tree house feel". It has hot water and Wifi, two things you wont get in most costa rican homes. The pool is beautiful and we also enjoyed the porch. You can literally sit out there for hours and just relax. If you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs, the monkeys make alot of noise at night. Other than that it was a wonderful stay!

What a great adventure. This was exactly what we expected and hoped for. Kurt and Tiffany are great hostess. We had a family of about 30 Howler Monkies in our tree and around every morning. I recommend this place for someone looking for adventure and enjoys getting out and and exploring during the day. Having some sort of vehicle is ideal because it is a little way to the "X" where most of the town and amenities are. Quads where $75 a day and a Little 4X4 Susuki Sidekick was $85 in Mal Pais.

Tiffany and Kurt are wonderful! And the treehouse is more than you can imagine. Clean, roomy, natural - truly a unique experience. There are wonderful little touches everywhere from incense, coffee, to water all around the treehouse. My husband and I had plenty of room and enjoyed the walk to the beach and town. The monkeys were spectacular, loved having coffee on the deck in the mornings! We would recommend having transportation (bike, four wheeler, car) because this is a nice, quiet distance away from town. We felt very safe the entire stay and sincerely enjoyed our nights here. We'd recommend it, no question!

Glad to see this place being added to Flipkey. We stayed there in December of 2009. We had a blast in Mal Pais. The tree house was such a wonderful experience! The listing description was accurate. The photo's accurately reflected the rental's appearance. The property was clean and well maintained. The owner's were super helpful in answering questions or concerns. I would definately recommend this property to a friend or relative. I would recommend the beach for surfing and tide pool exploring. Mary's restaurant down the road for dinner and especially enjoying a nice cup of tea out on the cute sitting area of the tree house in the morning (wildlife viewing included). We recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun time sharing a property with cool people in an amazing tropical environment, staying in a tree house is a kick ! Can't wait to go back.
