Well organised. All amenities were available in a very comfortable house, we really felt at home. Doubtful sound is a must & the house is within walking distance from the boat to start tour. Restaurant in motel was also within walking distance & we enjoyed our meals there. Many thanks.

This was a wonderful place to stay! The house is modern, functional, clean and comfortable. We wish we had more time to use the property to its full potential. The place is very affordable and we were very impressed with the owners Jessie and Ray who were very helpful, organised and personable from when we first inquired about the property to when we left. We opted to include the cruises around Doubtful Sound, Milford Sound and Lake Te anau, which were absolutely breathtaking. We would highly recommend this place.

We had a very enjoyable stay here. The cottage was clean, comfortable and very well set up - games and puzzles to keep the kids busy and the kitchen was very well equipped. It was perfectly located for our Doubtful Sound cruise, being only a short walk to the terminal. Just what we wanted.

Ray & Jessie Haanen are to be congratulated! Our Christmas Day in no. 16 Motu-Au Close will be a life-long memory for our family. Beautifully furnished and provisioned with comforts that make travel a delight. To have stayed longer would have been great. The cottage is not lake front but not a problem; just a few minutes walk to lake. Mountain vistas from most, if not all, rooms.
Definitely to be recommended. -

Clean, spacious and well equipped, Ray & Jessie's cottage was perfect for us as we were travelling with our toddler. It was big enough for him to have a room to himself and to run around inside and in the back yard. We arrived early which was no problem and were shown around then left to enjoy our privacy. The kitchen was well equipped for us to cook a decent meal both nights plus there was the option of the BBQ. The place was spotless and decorated beautifully- better than most hotels we stay in. Jessie even posted our cot blanket back to us which we left behind! I would definitely stay there again next time we are in the area and have no hesitation recommending the cottage to friends & relatives.

This cottage exceeded expectations in every sense. Lovely decor, clean, well-appointed. Our hosts, Ray and Jessie Haanen, went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and content. It was a bonus to find that the dock to pick up the Doubtful Sound tour boat was a short walk away.

Thank you Ray and Jessie. You thought of everything. Our email exchanges made choosing, booking and paying easy. The house was equipped to the highest levels we have seen. The personal welcome with a bottle of wine set the tone for our stay. The comprehensive local information was great and we got a lot of use from the walking book. The position of your house could not be bettered. It was nice and quiet with excellent vistas yer perfect for the ferries and just a short journey from the bigger and livelier Te anau. There canot be a better position from which to explore Fiordland. If you were to ask us to recommend a must do for future clients it would have to be the glow worm caves. Ours was a too short visit.

We have stayed in many vacation rentals all over the world, and this was one of the very nicest. Booking was easy, and the owners are super-nice and very helpful. The house itself is not only quiet and extremely comfortable, but beautifully arranged and furnished. Everything is very attractively done and Ray and Jessie have thought of so many great extras to make the stay special. The location is lovely! One tip--the little local store in Manapouri doesn't have much in the way of food, so plan to stock up at the large supermarket in Te anau. We hope to back to stay again!

This lovely clean modern cottage had all the services required to make for a very comfortable stay. Lots of little extras included like condiments and cooking needs, extra towels, laundry needs etc.. The cottage is very handy to the local eateries, and to the wharf for the Doubtful Sound cruise. We enjoyed our stay very much. Would suggest you buy your grocery needs before arriving as foodstuffs in little shop is expensive. The Hotel bistro is very good and plentifull.

HuddersfieldReally great accomodation - Heating a minor issue in cold weathe
Left on 10/22/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We stayed at the property one night prior to going on an overnight cruise on doubtful sound. The accomodation is very high quality, really modern and in spotless condition. Being self catering the facilities included lots we didnt need but that wasn't an issue. The recommendation for the Red Cafe for a meal was great. As the weather was unfortunately cold and the property had not been rented out for a few days prior to our occupation the villa was cold and the only source of heating is an airconditioning unit in the lounge. The unit worked well but took sometime to warm all the various rooms - a spare fan heater would be a great help for the other rooms.
We needed to leave our vehicle overnight the day after our rental and Ray and Jessie were very accomodating allowing us to leave the car in the large villa garage overnight.
All in all highly recommended -

Although a modern cottage, it felt very homely. It was extremely comfortable and it was spotlessly clean. As the garden matures, it will become even more pleasant than it already is.

Excellent!! Bright and airy! Spacious! Stylish! Wish we had booked in here for a longer stay. It’s a great chance to experience NZ living in accommodation that is well laid out and well furnished. Everything you can think of that you might need is here, from living, cooking, sleeping and bathing – except wifi! If wifi was provided then this bach would epitomise perfection. Don’t hang about, book this place if you are thinking about staying in the area.

Melbourne, AustraliaGreat cottage in central location
Left on 01/07/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We had a short one night stay at the cottage. Very nicely furnished. The cottage has everything you need - the pantry is stocked with flour, spices, oil, etc, all the little things that you may need on holiday but may not want to buy whilst on a short trip. Jessie and Ray have certainly thought about everything.
The cottage is very close to the Doubtful Sound cruise departure point - if you have to choose between only doing Doubtful or Milford, then make sure to pick Milford.
This cottage is great value for money and you will not be disappointed. The photos are an accurate reflection of the property.
Jessie was kind enough to give us venison (free of charge) as we arrived after the butcher had closed and we were keen to sample some local deer. This was very unexpected and a very kind gesture. Thanks Jessie, it was excellent and just what we needed to round off our trip!Response from Ray and Jessie Haanen - 01/08/2012

Glad you enjoyed the cottage and the venison Andre. We look forward to meeting up with you again sometime if you are ever back in Fiordland.

This is a very well equipped two bedroom cottage in a great location. Everything we could want was provided, the kitchen was fully equipped to prepare a full three course meal and we were very often pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful touches through out; spare towels for the beach, flash light, selection of Dvds, coffee and a grinder in the kitchen etc.
My Kids especially loved meeting the sheep and alpaca's Ray and Jessie keep at their home. -

A visit to southern New Zealand would not be complete without a visit to the Fiordlands. Moto-Au Close made the visit there even better. Having a house to ourselves with everything needed for our party was great.
Everything we need was at hand, modern and accesable. The location was ideal, within walking distance to the Lake Manapouri side of the Doubtful Sound excursion.
Thank you for making the trip there a success. -

We stayed for 2 nights either side of our trip to Doubtful Sound. We were allowed to leave our car in the garage whilst on the boat, it saved us worrying about it.
Everything is new & very stylish, the garden will be lovely once the plants grow!

We only stayed here one night but it was a really great stay. What a nice location and a superb accomodation, wish we could have stayed here longer ! Manapouri is very small but this location is excellent if you're taking the Doubtfull Sound trip. You're just a few steps from the harbour.
The cottage (it's really a house) has everything and more you could wish for! It's a nice spot to just sit on the deck and enjoy the silence and the sun... Wish I could be there!!Response from Ray and Jessie Haanen - 03/24/2011

Thanks for your feedback Monica and Wessel. We enjoyed building this cottage last year and furnishing it with everything we would love to have when on holiday ourselves so we are pleased that you enjoyed it. Maybe see you back one day.

We stayed for a couple of nights in early January. What a refreshing change from some other places we stayed. The cottage is very well equipped (with many thoughtful additions like spices and cooking items) and was a lovely place to relax after a full day of cruising Doubtful Sound. The cottage is new, nicely furnished and spotlessly clean. It's also well located only a few minutes walk from the cruise wharf.
