Additional Location Information
Located in a natural rocky inlet, Manarola is one of the most picturesque villages of Cinque Terre.
The tall multicoloured houses spread upwards alongside the Groppo channel (which crosses the village) and form a vertical mosaic of colours overlooking the sea.
Founded by the dwellers of the Volastra settlement, Manarola has Roman origins, still visible in the Church of San Lorenzo and in the Oratory, which can be visited in the square located in the upper part of the village. Special attention should be paid to the rose window, embellished by twelve small columns with leafed capitals and an external corona with human and leonine heads.
Walking along the panoramic street it is possible to visit two fascinating spots: the Castello square and the "arpaio" where houses jut over the sea.

The service was great. We arrived after midnight and were met by Peira and her husband at the train station after travelling for 17 hours and their welcome was very friendly and warm. They helped us with our luggage both to and from the station which was brilliant. The apartment is well equipped, modern, well-appointed and spotless with lovely views of the harbour, headland and vineyards. There are a lot of stairs but that's the Cinque Terre experience and because our luggage was carried for us, it wasn't an issue. Manarola was our favorite village and as all the low walks are currently closed, the high walks can be strenuous and slippery but very rewarding. Walking in the vineyards listening to the locals talking while they work is really special and the views are spectacular.

Seattle, WashingtonWe fell in love with Manarola!
Left on 11/06/2012 for a stay in October 2012
The view from the windows of our studio apartment was spectacular. The apartment was sparkling clean, comfortable and well maintained. The owners were helpful - we lacked for nothing. My husband used local produce and pasta to create the best dinner that we had in Italy. Although, when you head down the stairs to the main (only) street in town, and turn to your right, there’s a brick colored restaurant, with good food and very good service. Wish I could remember the name. Bring good walking shoes, because even if some of the walking trails are closed because of weather, hills cannot be avoided.
We explored all the towns by train, and for us Manarola was the star. -

Minneapolis, MinnesotaGreat place for a couple to stay in Manarola
Left on 10/08/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Piera, the owner of the property, met us at the end of the tunnel from the Manarola train station and brought us to the studio apartment in Manarola. There is a lot of climbing in Manarola, but the studio apartment and the view were worth the climb. The climbing might be difficult for someone with poor knees or other health issues, but that person would have difficulty walking in most of the Cinque Terre.
The apartment was spotless and well maintained. The quality of the furnishings was very high; the bed was firm, but comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped. The refrigerator was very quiet (we've stayed at other places with noisy refrigerators). Even though it was a studio apartment it had plenty of room for two and the view from the windows was bright and colorful. The bathroom was spacious and was divided into two area. The interior area had the shower, toilet, bidet and a small sink, and the outside area had a larger sink and mirror. A sliding door divided the two areas.
The walls of the apartment were thick and we heard no noise from the neighbors. The only noises we heard were a rooster and dog in the morning and the music from a bar, but none of these noises were very loud.
Piera, the owner, was friendly and helpful and the rate for this studio apartment was very reasonable (even in early to mid September) and we would gladly stay here again and we would highly recommend this to others. -

The service we received from Piera was excellent from the moment we first made reservation inquiries. She was waiting to meet us as planned and her excellent English was a real help as our Italian is very limited.
We found the apartment to be perfect for our needs. It is located at the bottom end of the town of Manarola close to the harbour and restaurants. At the same time it is nestled into a side street making it very quiet. It was equipped with modern furniture and appliances and was immaculately clean on our arrival. We chose to cook our own meals while we were staying here and everything we needed to do so was available.
Our primary reason for staying in Manarola was to do some walking in the Cinque Terre area and this made a perfect base for that.
If we ever return to this area we will definitely try and stay here again. It was great value. We have already recommended it to other travellers.

Brisbane, AustraliaWonderful style and functionality, spotlessly clean
Left on 09/24/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We were delighted to spend 5 nights at the Il Patio apartment in picturesque Manarola, Cinque Terre. Beautiful renovation by the owners Piera and Lucio with wonderful style and functionality, spotlessly clean and completely equipped for a self catering holiday. Il Patio is well located in a quite area up an inclined, smooth path off and above the main street. There is one set of steps to negotiate, with the help of your hosts, but the apartment is well worth the effort – there is even thoughtful double glazing if you want to sleep-in and not hear the bells from the church tower. Depending on the apartment you can have vineyard or sea views. Piera speaks very good English and German and was very prompt with email responses. Manarola was a delightful base for us with so many interesting outlooks.
Tips
1. La Spezia is a short train ride away and has a reasonable supermarket for food and wine etc. that is a few blocks from the train station. Free WiFi abounds in the city centre and local McDonalds.
2. The children's park and playground up above the Manarola harbour has great views back towards the town, and olive tree framed sunset photos. -

Manarola is a special place, and staying at Il Patio made it even a better experience. From the moment we requested a booking, until the day we left, the service we received from Piera and her husband was excellent. The flat we stayed in was perfect for our needs, having a spectacular view from our window. Every night we watched the most beautiful sunsets over the ocean. And the flat was literally a few steps away from all the restaurants and the beach area.
To add to the clean, modern apartment, we were greeted with their homemade local wine which we enjoyed over dinner.
I would recommend Il Patio for its location, view, amenities, as well as the helpful and hospitable owners. Manarola has many steps, but this was not a problem for Piera's husband who helped us with all our luggage both when arriving and leaving. Thank you for a wonderful holiday -

My friend and I stayed at IL patio for 5 nights; it was a fantastic stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and well furnished. The breeze from the sea at night kept us cool with the windows open. The apt. was located up some stairs, but it was a gorgeous view. Piera was a gracious hostess and gave us good advice about hiking and dining. This location also has close access to the best swimming in Cinque Terre!

This place is a fantastic value--a cute, clean apartment in a nice, secure building--literally steps from the "main drag" (restaurants/bars) of Manarola, including a swimming hole in the Mediterranean Sea.
If we ever are lucky enough to return to Manarola, we will reserve another room at Il Patio.
Thanks, Piera!!! -

We chose Il Patio for proximity to the train station. We had luggage and were concerned with climbing too many steps.
Piera met us close to the train station and helped us with the luggage. There were a few steps, a few stops, but we made it to the studio in a few minutes.
The studio was modern and spotless, coffee and tea maker was provided.
Both Piera and her husband were very helpful with advice about things to see.
When we left, they suggested where else to stop on the coast (the beautiful alassio), and helped us made the next reservation. Thanks for your hospitality! -

My husband and I recently stayed at IL Patio. The room was clean, comfortable and had a beautiful view of the ocean and the town of Manarola. It was wonderful to be able to cook our own meals, utilizing the great regional ingredients. Pierra was very helpful and kind. I would completely reccommend this place. If we return to Cinque Terre, we will definitely stay here again.

Stayed 3 nights at Il Patio in Manarola. The accomodations exceeded my expectations. Very clean and cozy, with a beautiful view of the sea from the window. Having a kitchen was key in the mornings. Only drawback for me was the bed which is quite firm, but some people prefer this. We loved our time in Cinque Terre!

We choose Il Patio after researching many vacation rentals on the internet. We wanted to stay in Manarola, because it appeared the most centrally located, and had one of the best walking views. Il Patio seemed to met all our requirements, regarding comfort, location, and price. The owner, Piera, meet us at a designated point, and guided us to our room. There was a lot climbing, but that's the Cinque Terra. We were not disappointed. The room (a double bed and private bath) were beautifully appointed, and overlooked a wonderful little private garden area. There isn't an ocean view, but we didn't miss that. Very clean and comfortable, with several good restaurants nearby.
Easy walk to Vernasse, and due to the flood of 2011, we took an easy train ride to the other towns. Piera was more than kind and helpful in answering all our questions, and pointing out the location of grocery stores, restaurants, etc. This is a lovely, place to stay and would recommend it to anyone visiting this beautiful area. -

As long as you can climb the 75 steps from the square up to these digs in Manarola, you'll find great value. We two senior couples stayed here in april, and enjoyed their very clean and comfortable rooms, each with private bathroom. The larger room had a sea view and a well-equipped kitchenette. The smaller room had inner patio access, and had an electric kettle, bar fridge, and a supply of tea and instant coffee. Would definitely retun.

Warm & helpful welcome on a wet arrival. Lovely, clean, apartment served our needs well. Thankful for hot water and bar heater to dry clothes. The stairs are not for the faint hearted but once you get your luggage in, the rest is all good exercise which is why most tourists come to this area. Devastating to see the result of recent flood damage to the neighbouring towns and reduced walking trail due to this ongoing repair.
Nice to get fresh towels when needed. A small lounge instead of a false cupboard would have been nice and a bigger TV in better position. Missed not being able to tune in to Italian music TV station here.
Bonus would be a washing machine and Internet. Overall we loved this place and would return, thank you.

My (now) fiance and I stayed here during our stay in Cinque Terre. The apartment is super, duper clean so we felt very comfortable staying and eating there. The view is beautiful and Piera is great- she and her husband met us when we arrived and helped with our luggage. There are a nice amount of steps (but that applies to all of the 5 Towns, so it's good practice!). Highly recommended!
