      Great location--amazing views!

Left on 04/16/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Manarola is a cute, quaint town which reminded me of the scene in Beauty and the Beast (Little town it's quiet village). The apartment is gorgeous, clean and well equipped. The staff were very accomodating. We arrived after office hours and they sent Stefano to meet us and bring us to the apt at no extra cost. The terrace is the cherry on the top, there we ate our breakfast the two mornings we were there while taking in the breathtaking views. We hung out in the evening at the local pub where they have live music every night. For me the only problem with our stay in Manarola was that it was too short!

Apartment Castello was perfect for my husband and I on our honeymoon. We loved Manorala and this spot was our best experience in Italy. The view is exactly how the pictures portray and more. If you are looking for a small, comfortable and easily accessible location. This will exceed your expectations.

      Appartamento Castello... Simply amazing!

Left on 09/15/2012 for a stay in August 2012

From the moment I arrived at Manarola the team at arbaspaa looked after me and made me feel welcome - even if I did have trouble finding their office to begin with.
And I wasn't disappointed with apartment Castello either, it was amazing - clean, bright, private, modern, fantastic view and perfect location. The bed was very comfortable (great pillows), the kitchen had everything you need, there was a washing machine for laundry (thank goodness!) and even during the height and heat of an august summer the apartment was always fresh and cool, the perfect place to walk into after a hot, sweaty, sticky hike during the day.
Sitting on the balcony was one of my favourite things - listening to the locals go about their daily chatter or hearing the kids laughing and playing in the piazza below, drinking a glass of wine and nibbling on snacks while enjoying the spectacular view watching the sun go down over the ocean... bliss.
The location was also great. It's private as you have a hill opposite you with gardens and vines (its the one that lights up at Christmas) and no other apartments looking in, up or down on your apartment (except the one you can see on the left of the balcony which always has the curtains drawn anyway). From the main street near the harbour there are 168 stairs up to the apartment door (great for the glutes) - but that's only if you take that route. There's also an easy ramp to walk up from the train station with only about 20 or so stairs if you'd prefer. In fact there are about 6 different ways you can get to the apartment and each one takes you through a cute character filled lane, a great way to explore the town of Manarola.
I'd easily recommend both apartment Castello and the team at arbaspaa. They made my trip to the Cinque Terre the best part of my Italian holiday... and yes I will be back.

View from the balcony with a glass of local wine - from the wine tour with Arbaspaa - Yes, it's orange. In short it's an amazing mix between white and red wine... yum! Some of the stairs from the main street below.

This is a lovely apartment with magnificent views from both North and South windows/balcony. Whilst not large, it has everything yo need, and you feel like you are on top of the village. Having no idea which village to stay in before our trip, and now having been to all five, I feel Manarola is the best option, based on size, character, shops, restaurants available, and the ease of access from train to village. So for us, the choice should be Manarola first, and then appartamento Castello.

Our apartment was perfect for 2 people. Although it had 2 bedrooms, I would not recommend for 4 people, it would be too cramped. However a good sized kitchen, which was well equipped,a nice bathroom, stunning views from the balcony and enough storage space. Excellent service from arbaspaa.

Clean, neat, newly refurbished, amazing views from both bedrooms. Charming small piazza outside with view of the ocean. My sister and I stayed here for a week and it was perfect. Might be a bit squishy for 2 couples. Walk up to Billys Trattoria and down to the town. Very easy walk from train with no steps until several at last 15 metres. This was perfect. We made friends with the knitting circle downstairs - they are very friendly. Be warned when you are looking for the arbaspaa office after arriving by train, the sign is very small and the tabacherria adjacent is not very obvious - do not overshoot and walk too far up the hill. I will definitiely stay here again.

The Details - how this is the perfect place to stay in Manarola!

Left on 05/25/2012 for a stay in May 2012

My husband and I booked appartamento Castello for our trip in May not knowing exactly what we were going to get - and we were extremely impressed! So for future travelers who are unsure about this place, here are some details about it to help you see how fabulous it is. :)

This a 2-bedroom apartment with a kitchen/living room. Let's start with the kitchen/living room. It's a full kitchen (oven, stove, refrigerator, plates, utensils, cookware, etc.). It has a couch and a table that seats 4. There's also a washing machine in this room. It has 1 window, with a sea view.

The bedrooms are rather small, but as you get two of them and I was only traveling with my husband the second bedroom served as a dressing room for us, so we were able to spread out. The first bedroom has a queen bed, which was very comfortable, a huge closet, and a balcony that seats 2. This balcony has amazing sea views and town views (see my posted pictures). Just phenomenal!!!

The second bedroom has a double bed, a dresser, and one window with incredible views (see my posted pictures).

The bathroom is small for american standards, but perfectly acceptable. It has a strong shower with plenty of hot water, a towel warmer, a hair dryer (upon request), but no toiletries (so bring shampoo, body wash, etc.).

All in all the apartment was perfect for us. It was extremely clean and had an Ikea-esque vibe. It can accommodate 4, but like I said, it was perfect for two. The location was terrific too: 4 minute walk to the center of town, the train station, restaurants, grocery store, etc. It's right between Piazza Castello and Billy's restaurant. Yes, you do need to walk uphill to get to the apartment, but if hills are an issue for you at all then you should come to Cinque Terre, since everything is on a hill.

So at 100 euros a night, we couldn't have been more pleased with this apartment!!!

      Absolutely stunning views

Left on 12/24/2011 for a stay in June 2011

My wife and I stayed for 14 days at appartamento Castello after carefully studying other's experiences on Trip advisor. We were not disappointed. After being shown up the hill by one of arbaspaa's staff to the innocuous looking entrance door we were then given a 'guided 'tour' of the apartment. Everything was clean and tidy with plenty of storage and clothes hanging space. The bathroom was small as others have noted and the shower was certainly not made for anyone too portly. The 2 bedrooms were amazing - both being simply but adequately furnished, It didn't make any differance really because your eyes were instantly drawn to the stunning views whichever room you were in. To your right up into the hills and down to the village piazza, to your left down to the sea and along the coast to Corniglia and Monterosso. The only real disappointment was the lack of the advertised washing machine. It should be pointed out that a certain degree of mobility and fitness was required to walk from the village up to the apartment but apart from that it was just perfect. The shops in Manarola were able to supply all of our day to day needs and we made friends with the locals at one eatery which we frrequented regularly. We particularly liked the 'small village' atmosphere which would probably be lacking in the other 4 villages and the helpful atitude of all of the arbaspaa staff. The only thing we really disliked was the plague of small flying insects which decided to invade us one evening. We also suggested to the arbaspaa staff that the 'blandness' of the plain, white walls of the rooms could be brightened up with some local posters like those on the walls of the tunnel leading to the railway station.

      Castello needs repair work

Left on 11/13/2011 for a stay in October 2011

This was a good apartment, the location was great, and the views were spectacular.

However, the apartment needed some serious repairs. There was no door on the shower; the door was stored behind the sofa in the kitchen. We told the booking office, but they did nothing. Also, many of the lights either din't work or had no bulbs in them. The bathroom light flickered on and off all the time, leaving us in the dark sometimes when we showered. Again, we told the office and nothing was done. The door to the balcony wouldn't open at all upon arrival. One of the office people got it open, but we couldn't close it so that it would stay shut, so we had to keep it closed with a table. A girl in the office told us that the apartment was privately owned, that arbaspaa just managed things (which to us meant just collecting the money), clearly implying that they could do nothing.

Could be a great place with some attention to these details, and better responsiveness to renters.

Unfortunately we live in a small village and it takes some days to repair things like a door if the company which has installed come from another region. Now the door of the shower and of the balcony have been repaired, the lights also and the "funny words" written by some polite customers on the wall cancelled.....

Getting practically anywhere in Manarola is steep with long walkways or steps to negotiate but well worth getting to this apartment. Prior to your trip, hit your gym treadmill and put it on a steep incline. Also, pack light (seriously), and you'll enjoy this magical place even more!

I stayed at Castello with my wife and another married couple for 4 nights. We absolutely loved the apartment and the service provided by Francesca & Heidi. The location was easily reached from the train station and was a quick walk to town and Dal Billy. The kitchen provided everything needed to whip up some delicious local fare to be enjoyed on the balcony or carried for lunch. The only problem experienced was a clogged shower drain that required some major cleaning (by me) before it would drain enought to run the water through the entire shower but once it was cleaned everything worked well.

We originally wanted to stay in Vernazza but we are so glad that we stayed in Manarola! This apartment is on a ridge and has sea views from both sides. We enjoyed the terrace off the bedroom for the sunset. The girls in the office were wonderful. We requested a few items for the kitchen and they were supplied with a smile. When we return to the Cinque Terre, we want to stay in this apartment again, so I don't want to write too much about how great it is.

The service received was first rate and very helpful. Any time we needed information about anything from weather to train timetables to walk tracks open & restaurants, Arbaspaa staff (in particular Martina) were friendly & obliging.
The apartment was spacious, well appointed, in particular the batterie de cuisine, modern, attractive and what a view! (from both bedrooms and even a different view from the kitchen). All the equipment worked as it should.
Manarola is a very attractive village and quiet, which suited us perfectly.
The little balcony was great for breakfast with a view to die for and for pre dinner drinks with a sunset as backdrop.
We would have liked a couple of wine glasses and more toilet paper - our only minor complaints.
There were only two of us but the apartment could accommodate up to four. I thoroughly recommend this property!

We had 5 lovely days at this modern apartment in a quiet location handy to the railway station. The views were spectacular with all day sun and a balcony to enjoy it from. The sunsets and night lights from the towns along the coast, along with the locals tending their gardens across the valley makes the views interesting all day long. The living/kitchen area was not large but certainly adequate for 2 persons. It would have been easier to make tea and coffee if a kettle was available for boiling water and a toaster or microwave would be helpful. The beds and bathroom were fine. While the appartment was generally clean, the kitchen sink, benches/surrounds and cooker could have
been cleaned better. Dishwashing liquid and new cloths were not supplied. A pleasant surprise was a washing machine - a joy for any traveller to find!

Manarola was superb paticularly in the late aftenoon when the tourist coaches have departed. Three excellent restaurants and very friendly helpful staff, two at the lower level and Billy's.

Unfortunately we had a week of continuous rain and were unabel to explore the area - the coast paths north of Manarola were closed due to the risk of landslips!!!

The apartment was clean, tidy and as represented on the website and perfect for two although it did have two separate bedrooms. Due to the rain we were unable to enjoy sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine in the early evenings.

      What a Find

Left on 04/07/2010 for a stay in March 2010

I am hesitant to tell the truth about our experience in Manarola, with the Arbaspaa rental group and with Appartamento Castello as I wish to keep secret such a unique and perfect experience. But since that isn't nice and the Arbaspaa folks deserve a sincere review, I can say that this experience far exceeded our expectations. From beginning to end, the booking experience was easy, laid back, and gracious. Initially, I thought it odd that they did not require a deposit on our week's rental in Manarola. But upon arrival, it all made sense. We were 4 hrs. late to arrive due to plane delays from the U.S. The Arbaspaa office closes at 6 pm, but Mr. Bordoni graciously met us at 10:00 pm and not only showed us to the apartment, but toted my luggage as well. Since it was late, he suggested we just come by the next day or whenever it was convenient to pay. He walked us to a restaurant at the top of the hill that we had heard was good (it sure was) and he made the dinner reservations for us (at 10 pm!) The 2-bdrm. apartment had been recently renovated and was clean enough to eat off the floors (no kidding). The kitchen was large and well equipped and each bedroom had a phenomenal view of the sea. The main bedroom had a balcony that we used constantly (with sweaters on) for one of the best views you will ever see. If I were forced to say something negative about the apartment, it would be the shower and the size of the bathroom. It is difficult to turn around in the corner shower unit and it does not drain well. The bathroom itself is a bit hard to maneuver in. My husband is of medium build and did OK, but if you are a large person, it would be difficult.
Of the five villages, we would choose Manarola again for its true slice of Cinque terre life and for its quietness. The townsfolk live and work amidst the tourists and are so friendly and gracious. We ate out at least one meal/day and every meal was superb. We would go again in the off-season; no crowds.

      Great Apartment, Fantastic View!

Left on 10/02/2009 for a stay in September 2009

Can't recommend Appartmento Castello highly enough. We were hesitant to use a booking agent we knew nothing about but the prospect of a balcony won us over. As it turned out there was nothing to worry about - the office was easy to find and the staff were there to greet us when we arrived in Manarola and were very polite. We were taken direct to the apartment and allowed to inspect it prior to paying for our stay (no just handing the key over and giving instructions on how to find the apartment). The apartment itself was exactly as the pictures on the Arbaspaa site showed, it was clean and neat and had everything we needed (except I think internet connection - but not a huge issue there). The view from the balcony off the main bedroom was magnificent, I could have sat there all day - you could open the doors in the morning, lay in bed and watch people picking grapes in the vineyard on the hillside. The apartment was very easy to reach from the train, an easy walk up a fairly steep incline, some steps (nice wide easy to walk up) up to the front door which put you at apartment level (no steep internal stairs to climb) - we came prepared with backpacks but they were not really necessary as getting suitcases to this apartment would not pose any real difficulty. The only negative I could give the apartment is the shower is a little on the small side but not too bad and I certainly would not let it put me off using the apartment. Manarola itself is a lovely town to stay in, once the daily crowds head home in the afternoon it's so relaxing to sit back and enjoy the sounds of locals living life - children playing, the occassional sound of china clunking in a restaurant below, water washing on the rocks, a passing gull. Everything you need is in the town, including an ATM. Would not hesitate to recommend the apartment - come, bring a book for some quiet time on the balcony (not that you'll read much, the view just takes your breath away) and enjoy!

      A Little Bit of Heaven

Left on 09/27/2009 for a stay in May 2009

I must say, I want to keep this place a secret as it was a little bit of heaven for us. My daughter and I stayed in this apartment for 4 nights and fell in love with Manarola. It is the quietest of the villages, so if you are looking for action, go elsewhere. Monterrosso Al Mar is the largest town and it seems like it would have more nightlife. For us, Manarola was perfect after the buzz of the big cities. The apartment, had a small but lovely balcony that overlooked the town, with a view of the sea and the garden terraces. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed (lots of kitchen stuff, washing machine, clean towels). The people we dealt with at Arbaspaa were very helpful and accomodating. When we decided to stay in Manarola an extra 2 nights, they found us another apartment as the one we were in was booked.
As well, there is a wonderful restaurant just up the hill called Trattatoria Dal Billy where we ended up eating almost every night...the pesto is to die for (as well as anything else on their menu!). And make sure you try their dessert-we didn't until the last night and it was sent to us as a gift from the cook and my daughter and I still dream of it!!
